Athena’s POV

“I want the whole realm to know who you are,” Varianth had said hours ago, his hand resting gently on my lower back as we strolled through the nursery. “I want to host a ball. You deserve to be introduced with all the honor you were once denied.”

My heart swelled. But nerves twisted deep in my stomach. “Do you think they’ll accept me? All of them? All twelve packs—including mine?”

He turned to face me, cupping my cheeks, his forehead resting against mine. “They’ll accept you because I do. And they’ll love you once they see what I see.”

His kiss was soft, sure—full of promise.

By nightfall, the invitations were sent. By morning, the palace buzzed with preparations. Seamstresses fluttered into my chamber, arms full of midnight silk and starlight threads.

And then—like a ghost turned flesh—Emma walked in.

“Someone tell me why this dress isn’t steamed yet?” she barked, Caelan propped on one hip, her expression fierce.

I froze. “Emma…”

She looked at me, and her face crumbled. “Gods, I missed you.”

We collided in a hug, Caelan squealing between us. I hadn’t realized how much I'd missed her until that moment. My anchor. My sister in every way that mattered.

“I’ve waited my whole life to see you like this,” Emma whispered as she wiped a tear, tightening the corset herself. “Not just beautiful… but loved.”

I turned to the mirror and barely recognized the woman staring back. Midnight-blue gown, jeweled hair, birthmark uncovered—for the first time in my life.

Varianth had told me to never hide it again.

The ballroom glowed like a sky full of stars. Nobles and alphas from across the kingdom filled the marble halls in silks and armor and whispered awe.

Varianth walked beside me, regal, Caelan swaddled in his arms. I held his free hand tightly, nerves buzzing through my veins.

“This is it,” he murmured. “Tonight, you are no longer just mine. You are theirs too.”

I nodded. “As long as I’m yours, I’ll face anyone.”

Then I saw them—at the far end of the room. The crowd shifted, and three ghosts from my past stepped through the grand doors.

My parents. And Eryndor.

My breath caught. My father’s jaw clenched. My mother gasped. Eryndor’s eyes flicked from Caelan to me—and darkened.

But I didn’t flinch.

Let them see.

Let them know.

When they entered, something strange happened. But it wasn’t fear.

It was peace.

As if a weight I didn’t know I’d been carrying had finally lifted. I was no longer running from the past. I was walking right through it—in heels and diamonds.

Then… the shift began.

It wasn’t a normal one. My breath hitched. My chest burned, skin prickling with heat as power bloomed in my veins like fire. I gripped Varianth’s arm.

“Athena?” he whispered, alarmed.

I couldn’t answer.

A light pulsed from my chest—soft, golden, radiant. It wrapped around me like a halo. The music stopped. The whispers started.

“She’s glowing.”

“Is this… a shift?”

But I didn’t fall to the floor.

I rose.

My body didn’t morph—but evolved. My skin shimmered. My eyes deepened. My senses expanded. I felt like myself… only more.

And then—I touched behind my ear.

The birthmark was gone.

I gasped, but I didn’t feel grief. I felt whole.

Then, Elder Myra stepped forward, parting the stunned crowd like water. Her eyes held no surprise—only pride.

“She has awakened,” the Elder declared. “As I always knew she would.”

Eryndor looked like he’d swallowed glass. My father paled, his mouth opening but no words came.

“She is no ordinary wolf,” Myra continued, her voice ringing like a bell. “She was born under the Veil of Light. Her mark was never shame—it was protection. A seal. A sign of destiny.”

The entire hall gasped.

“She is not just his mate. She is his equal. She is the Queen.”

My knees nearly buckled. “Queen?” I echoed.

Elder Myra nodded. “You were never meant to follow. You were born to lead.”

I turned to Varianth.

He placed Caelan gently in Emma’s arms, then walked to me—eyes filled with awe. And dropped to one knee.

“I already knew you were more than I ever deserved,” he said, voice breaking. “But now I know… you were always meant to be my queen.”

Tears blurred my vision. I pulled him up and whispered, “You never needed to kneel. Just stay.”

He kissed me, slow and soft—right in front of the kingdom. Cheers erupted around us.

And then I looked past him.

To the ones who once made me feel like nothing.

Eryndor’s face was thunder, his fists clenched uselessly at his sides. My father? He wobbled once—then collapsed to the floor in a dead faint. My mother screamed and rushed to him. I didn’t blink, because for the first time, I saw it. That wasn’t my family. This was.

The man beside me, with his golden eyes and battle-worn hands. The woman holding my son, who never stopped believing in me. And the boy himself—my son. My legacy. I turned to the kingdom with my chin high.

“I am Athena,” I said, voice strong and clear. “Luna of this realm. And I accept my place… as your queen.”
