Athena’s POV
He stood there for a moment—silent, breathless. I could see it in his eyes. He remembered. His expression was a mix of shock, wonder, and something deeper—something raw.
I tightened my arms around the baby in my lap, trying to steady my own breathing. I’d dreamed of this moment, feared it, and longed for it all at once.
But nothing could’ve prepared me for what it felt like to truly be seen by him.
“Varianth…” I whispered.
He crossed the room slowly, like a man approaching something sacred. And then, to my shock—he dropped to his knees in front of me.
“I remember everything,” he said softly. His voice broke. “The hotel. Your touch. Your voice. The way you said my name like it meant something.”
Tears filled my eyes instantly.
“It did,” I breathed. “It still does.”
Varianth looked down at our son—still sleeping peacefully, nestled against my chest. His gaze softened, and his fingers lightly brushed over the baby’s tiny hand.
“I thought that night was lost,” he whispered. “But it’s lived inside me this whole time… in the way I’ve looked at you, even when I didn’t understand why I couldn’t stay away.”
“I didn’t want to tell you,” I admitted. “Not until you remembered on your own. I was afraid if you only knew because of the baby, it wouldn’t be real between us.”
He looked up at me. “It’s real, Athena. It’s the only thing that’s ever felt real.”
The tears fell freely now, warm and silent.
“I thought I’d never get this,” I whispered. “A moment like this. With you… and him.”
Varianth cupped the side of my face, his hand warm and strong. His thumb gently wiped away a tear.
“I’ve been a fool,” he said. “I let lies blind me. I let people twist what I felt. But even before I remembered, even when I didn’t understand why—I was already yours.”
I leaned into his hand, trembling.
“We have a son,” I whispered, smiling softly.
He smiled back—genuine, radiant. “We do.”
“What should we name him?” I asked, looking down at the baby.
Varianth stared at him for a long moment, then at me.
“What about Caelan?” he said finally. “It means warrior of light.”
My heart squeezed. “Caelan…” I whispered. “That’s beautiful.”
“He’s our light,” Varianth said, brushing a hand over our son’s soft hair. “After everything… he brought me back to you.”
I nodded. “Caelan Seraphael.”
Varianth raised an eyebrow. “Seraphael?”
“He should carry my name too,” I said firmly, glancing up. “Your blood may run in him, but he’s mine just as much.”
A slow smile curved his lips. “He’s ours.”
He leaned in closer, pressing his forehead to mine, his voice low and full of emotion.
“I failed you once,” he whispered. “But I swear—I will never fail you again.”
I closed my eyes. I could feel it.
That pull.
That connection.
Stronger than ever.
It wasn’t just memories or emotion. It was instinct. Soul-deep. The mate bond. And suddenly, it flared to life—like a thousand flames igniting all at once.
We both gasped. His hand gripped my cheek as if grounding himself.
My heart pounded. His eyes searched mine.
“I feel it,” I breathed. “Do you?”
He nodded, voice thick with awe.
“Athena…” he whispered, pressing his lips against my forehead. “ You are my mate.”
