CAMILLA'S POV
With my arms folded behind my back, I paced back and forth in the room, my mind swirling with countless thoughts.
Anxiety gnawed at me as I nervously bit my fingernails, each nibble bringing darker images to life. I envisioned the most horrific scenarios that could happen, my heart racing with dread.
What have I done?
I could feel my wolf’s uneasiness mirroring my own turmoil. I had crossed a line this time; it was entirely my fault.
How had I let things escalate to this point? I should have ensured Astrid was dead. I was so close to achieving my goal; if that arrow had been fired just a second later, I would have succeeded.
She would have been gone, and I would have felt no remorse for my actions. Instead, I made a mistake and turned myself into a fool.
Each step I took felt heavier, the weight of my decisions pressing down on me. I replayed the events in my mind, wishing I could change the outcome.
How could I have been so careless? The fear of what could happen next tightened in my chest.
I groaned, burying my fingers in my hair, feeling the weight of my shame. I had made a complete fool of myself.
This was the first time I had ever felt such embarrassment, and it all started the moment Astrid crossed my path.
But I couldn’t just let it slide; it was infuriating! I had been so close to seeing that bitch die, and now everything had come crashing down on me. What have I done? What should I do?
The more I thought about it, the clearer it became that this was the biggest mistake I had ever made; this was the worst of it all.
I never should have allowed myself to act so foolishly. Everything I had planned was flawless, and now I had been caught red-handed. I had no escape route, no backup plans, nothing to fall back on.
Dane would come for me; he would seek revenge. I had barely managed to escape the woods without dying.
Glancing down at my side, I noticed the tears in my skin from where the arrow had pierced me. The wounds were slow to heal, and panic settled in—was I really going to end up dead?
Would I be caught? The questions echoed in my mind, each one more haunting than the last.
No, I can't be caught; I will not be caught. I had escaped the woods, limping for my life when my father's men had come to my rescue.
They had rushed me into the car, whisking me away just in time; those men had only moments to save my life.
Things could have turned disastrous if not for their quick thinking.
And now, here I was—reduced to ruins—fucked-up ruins.
I sighed again, feeling the weight of my frustration grow heavier with each breath.
But where was my father? We had agreed to meet at the bridge, and he had sent me off with some of his men, claiming I would find refuge in the Silver Pack.
He had a safe house nearby, and everything seemed to be just as he promised. I felt hidden, secure—at least for the moment.
He had said he would meet up with me soon, that he needed to gather some money and important documents from home.
Yet it felt like he was taking an eternity. I paced back and forth, my anxiety mounting with each passing second until I could no longer suppress my curiosity.
I pushed open the door, signaling for one of the men to step closer.
“Any news from my father? Is he in the Silver Pack yet?” I asked urgently, my heart racing. The guard shook his head, a grim look on his face.
“I’m sorry, Luna Camila, but I haven’t received any updates about your father or when he’ll return to the pack,” he replied. Frustration bubbled up inside me, and a sigh escaped my lips as my anxiety spiked.
“It shouldn’t take this long! Find out what he’s up to and why he’s late!” I snapped, my voice sharper than I intended.
Just then, another guard rushed toward us, clearly in distress.
“Luna Camila, there is news, but it’s bad news,” the guard panted, his voice shaking and his face pale. My stomach dropped, and I braced myself for what he was about to say.
“What's wrong? Where is my father? I don’t see him,” I asked, my voice trembling as I scanned the room, hoping for any sign of him.
“Your father...” the guard stammered, his words getting caught in his throat. He hesitated, then reached toward his side and handed me a piece of fabric. My eyes widened in horror as I felt it tremble in my hands.
“This is my cloth; why is it drenched in blood? Did he... get into an accident?” I yelled, panic rising in my chest, my heart racing as I tried to comprehend what I was seeing.
“No, he’s... Your father... Mister Han... He is dead. Alpha Dane came to the house. He attacked your father; he killed him. I’m so sorry, Luna, but your father is dead,” he announced, his voice breaking as he delivered the devastating news.
“We couldn't save him.”
My heart shattered into a million pieces the moment his words sank in. It felt like the ground had been pulled from beneath me. This couldn't be true. How could this happen? How could he be gone?
“He’s dead!” I cried again, my voice raw with grief as my knees buckled beneath me. I collapsed to the floor, clutching the blood-stained clothing tightly against my chest, the reality of his death crashing down like a heavy weight.
Each sob felt like a knife to my heart, and the world around me blurred as I struggled to process the loss.
“I suggest we stay hidden; things are pretty heated right now; that is what your father would have wanted,” the guard added, his voice steady but laced with concern.
I swallowed hard, feeling a lump in my throat as I fought to hold back the tears threatening to spill. Each tick of the clock seemed to echo the harsh truth that was finally dawning on me.
“My father... he’s dead,” I whispered again, the words feeling heavy and cold. Both men turned their faces away from me, unable to meet my gaze as I felt the pain seeping deeper into my heart, burning through my nerves like fire.
Alpha Dane had come for us, and all of this chaos was because of Astrid; it was all her fault.
“I’ll avenge him; I will make them pay for this!” I yelled, my voice rising with fury. Rage swelled within me, filling the void left by grief as I fought hard to keep my tears at bay.
Everything I had done was meant to keep Halfdan by my side; I had thought that winning him over would secure my place, but now Alpha Halfdan was nowhere to be found.
My reckless chase of his love had led me to this desolate ruin, a world turned upside down by loss and vengeance.
I felt lost in the darkness, driven by a burning desire for revenge and a need to honor my father’s memory.
