The following week, the whispers about Ciara and Mark slowly began to fade, but the remnants of their influence still lingered in Hanna’s mind. She knew she had to let go, but sometimes the past had a way of creeping back in, reminding her of the battles she had fought and the scars they had left.
One evening, as they sat on the porch of Hanna’s house, the warm summer breeze brushing against their skin, Hanna turned to Finn.
“Do you ever think about everything we’ve been through?” she asked quietly, her gaze focused on the horizon.
Finn looked at her, his expression thoughtful. “I do. But not in the way I used to. It’s more like… a part of our story now. But not the whole story.”
Hanna smiled softly, her heart swelling with emotion. “I know what you mean. It’s like we’ve overcome it all, but it’s still there, you know?”
Finn squeezed her hand, his eyes filled with understanding. “It’s always going to be a part of us, Hanna. But it doesn’t define us anymore. We’re stronger because of it. And we have each other.”
Hanna leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder. “I couldn’t do this without you, Finn. I know I’ve said it before, but it’s true. You’re my strength.”
Finn kissed the top of her head gently. “And you’re mine. We face everything together. No more looking over our shoulders. Only forward, with no regrets.”
As the sun set, casting a golden glow over them, Hanna felt a sense of peace she hadn’t known in a long time. She still carried the weight of the past, but with Finn by her side, it didn’t feel as heavy. Together, they could face anything that came their way.
And for the first time in a long time, Hanna felt ready to move forward.
