My mind is made up as I turn my focus on the elders. Instead of focusing on Jake, I focused on the fact that these four men would be dead by the end of the day. Nyx takes a step forward and they watch her suspiciously. When she’s taken five steps one of the elders raises his hand to stop her. Nyx clasps her hands in front of her and holds her chin high. I swallow as I lower my gaze to my mate on his knees.
“Release our Alpha,” Nyx demands.
“We don’t take orders from the devils spawns,” the brown eyed elder says.
“Now now, Tobias,” one of the blue eyed elders said. “Let’s be civil.”
“Yes, Killian,” Tobias answered. “Forgive me.”
“Civil? Civil?! How is anything you’ve done here today?” I asked.
“A necessary sacrifice,” Killian said.
“Sometimes we need to sacrifice the lesser for the greater good,” Tobias said.
“Sacrifice? You murdered them in cold blood!” I screamed.
“Kacie,” Nyx said.
“Why? What reason was good enough to justify murdering women and children in their own homes? What was the reason that brought you all the way here without trying to first talk?” I asked.
“Didn’t she tell you?” Tobias asked.
“Tell us what?” Nyx asked.
“We’re here for her,” Tobias said. He looked at me.
“Why?” I asked.
“You’re dangerous. A prophecy states a child of both worlds would be the downfall of mankind,” Killian answered.
“Of two worlds?” I asked. None of this made sense.
“A child of the moon goddess and magic,” Killian answered.
“And I’m supposed to be this child?” I asked.
“She was said to wield fire like a sword,” Tobias said.
“And we know that you have this gift,” the younger elder said.
I wanted his blood on my hands more than the others. His hands gripped the chains tightly. I didn’t know what they could do but I didn’t put it past them to have a way to kill Viktor. I had to, no, I needed to tread carefully.
“You’re here to kill Kacie,” Clara said.
“Yes. We knew better than to ask her mate to hand her over. We hadn’t planned to do anything until we had warriors to fight on our side, but Jade was so willing to help. When we heard you were with child, Charles insisted we push forward with our plan and use the witches help,” Tobias said. He nodded toward the elder holding the chains connected to Viktor.
“What does me having a child have to do with this and why would he care?” I asked.
“You don’t recognize him?” Tobias asked.
“Why would I? Should I know who he is?” I asked.
Tobias looked at Killian and he shook his head. Tobias looked disappointed and looked at Charles. Charles didn’t look at him. He didn’t stop looking at me. He held my gaze and I glared at him. Tobias looked at me and shrugged his shoulders.
“I would suppose it wouldn’t matter then,” Tobias muttered.
They knew something, they had a secret but I could care less about their secrets. I wanted my mate. I wanted him free. I wanted him by my side. I took a step forward and pointed at Viktor.
“What have you done to him?” I asked.
“The wolfs bane is the most potent one out there. Instead of pain, it serves as an opioid, but not just any human opioid. It has been tested and many variants have been made. This one is the strongest out there. It’s been proven to take down a werebear. It took him down instantly,” Tobias said.
“But he’s okay?” I asked.
“For now,” Tobias said.
“I want you to let him go. Release him,” I demanded.
“Didn’t you hear me earlier?” Tobias asked. An annoying smirk spread across his face.
“Nyx,” I said. She looked at me. “We’re not getting anywhere.”
“We’re not,” Nyx said.
“Do it,” Clara said.
“But leave the one holding the chains to me,” I said. Nyx nodded. She turned toward the elders and lifted her arm.
“What are you doing?” Tobias asked.
I watched as one by one her veins popped out again like I’d seen when she faced Jade. She gasped as she leveled three of the four elders with a look from her milky eyes. They grunted and swayed where they stood.
“What-” Tobias asked but coughed on blood.
I watched as the veins in his eyes became visible and blood started to run from his eyes. His eyes popped and he screamed as it dripped down his cheeks. He grabbed at his face and thrashed as he tried to break free of Nyx’s power.
“I’m killing you and for once, I’m enjoying robbing something of life,” Nyx whispered. They couldn’t hear us but I didn’t look away from them as blood ran from every hole. Killian cried out as the veins in his neck exploded and I watched as blood darkened beneath his skin. He fell to the ground and writhed in pain.
“They need to feel every second of this,” Clara said.
“Don’t make it quick,” I whispered.
“Never,” Nyx promised.
I watched as a fountain of blood fell from Tobias’s mouth and nose. His body went limp and he crashed to the floor. The three of them writhed on the floor painfully until one by one they died. I stared at them for a few moments longer. Their death meant we’d ridden ourselves of the evil that dared to wander into my home. Well… almost ridden ourselves. There was still one more. I looked towards the last elder as I stepped forward. I was surprised to find that he hadn’t dropped the chain and tried to run away. He stared at me as if I were a monster, as if me and my sisters were devils.
“You’re evil,” Charles breathed.
“No. You’re evil and I’ll enjoy killing you,” I murmured.
“I should have done away with you long ago. I had been weak and couldn’t do it, but you’ve been my one and only regret of my life,” Charles said.
