Piper’s POV
“At one point, I regretted all the evil deeds I had done in the past and I felt that my life was not at peace. After thinking for a while and talking to someone, I came here and take responsibility. I’m sure everyone wouldn’t want to be in prison or spend their whole life in prison, but serving time in prison means I’m making amends to everyone I’ve hurt bit by bit,” Megan replied as she looked down at her cuffed hands. I saw clear liquid soaking into her bare face without makeup.
Suddenly, Megan’s face turned towards the large glass where we stood and stared at us. The large glass separated the investigation room from the secret room. She smiled and said, “Piper, are you there? Sorry. All I can say to you is sorry. I wish you a happy ever after.”
I was stunned. Jay hugged me from the side and I sobbed. Why did it have to end like this? Megan and I spent a lot of time together when we were kids. People said we were like twins. However, who would have thought that things would change as we grew up? She started acting weird and ignoring me, and then all the bad things started happening one after another.
Why should she be jealous of me? She’s much prettier and sexier, and men have been staring at her with admiring eyes for a long time. Even though she wasn’t academically smart, she had the advantage in her body. But everything has happened and cannot be repeated.
Megan, I hope you repent and change. I’m trying to forgive you. I hope someday we can talk like before.
The detectives continued their questioning until Megan told them all about the chronology and motives. Luckily, the entire process went quickly. Two months later, the trial for Megan’s case began. They presented all the evidence and witnesses in court. And we had a surprise for her at the trial.
On the second day of the trial, when the prosecution called a witness on the morning of Doctor Kevin’s murder, Megan’s face was normal until the witness walked into the courtroom and sat down on the witness stand. Megan’s eyes widened and her mouth dropped open. She spontaneously stood up from her seat.
“You-you, no way. You were already dead,” Megan said. Her lips and body were trembling. We had expected Megan’s spontaneous reaction. Then, two police officers had to force her to sit quietly.
The witness sat right in front of Megan, and he smiled. “Finally, we meet again.”
Megan was visibly shaken and her forehead was furrowed, showing she was deep in thought. Moments later, she was laughing so hard that the judge had to tap his gavel several times to keep her quiet and out of trouble.
The witness was Doctor Kevin. We found out that the doctor was still alive and hiding somewhere under a new identity. He deliberately did this so that everyone thought he had died. Even the nurse who was his assistant thought he was dead.
Jay and I found out about this from Nick. Jay deliberately asked Nick to investigate the case of Doctor Kevin’s death with the help of Tom. It turned out that the result we got was amazing.
It turned out that Megan killed the wrong person. Someone who was at the scene was Doctor Kevin’s twin brother. The hitman ordered by Megan mistook the doctor’s twin brother for the doctor himself.
Fate has its plans, and in this world, there is no perfect crime. It will reveal in due time.
Doctor Kevin cried as he gave his testimony. His twin brother had sacrificed for him.
Finally, the judge sentenced Megan to twenty years. She accepted the verdict with a smile. She neither resisted nor tried to appeal. On the last day of the trial, we saw a man with a cut on the right side of his face approach Megan and they embraced.
Right at that moment, the lawyer who had represented Megan throughout the trial came up to us and revealed everything. It turned out that the man and the child in Megan’s womb were the reasons that made her change. They took her to a women’s prison on the edge of Valdirra.
Long story short, one month had passed since the trial, and it was time for me and Megan to give birth.
I was bleeding in the bathroom while taking a shower. Jay took me straight to the hospital. Along the way, I was having intense and constant contractions. Soon this child would be born.
Arriving at the hospital, the nurses immediately took me to the delivery room and prepared all the equipment needed during labor.
Mom, Vanessa, Lily, and Max came to the hospital. The twins were at home with Lily and Ken.
Jay stayed by my side. He kept encouraging me while holding my hand. My body was sweating and my lips were moaning in pain. The contractions I was feeling were getting so painful that it almost made me give up. However, I tried to stay strong because this wasn’t my first time giving birth.
“Jay, it hurts,” I said in a low voice.
“Don’t give up, baby. You’ll make it. We’re all here to keep you company and pray for you,” Jay replied.
“Stay by my side,” I pleaded. I felt like I was running out of strength. Enduring the pain of contractions had taken a lot out of me.
“Yes. Your mom and I will be with you during the birthing process. Don’t be afraid,” Jay replied as he kissed my cheek.
Six hours later, the water broke and the birth canal was fully open. The obstetrician and some nurses rushed to help me give birth. Moments later, with tremendous struggle, our third child was born, a beautiful baby girl with beautiful blue eyes like Jay’s and light brown hair like mine.
Everyone in the delivery room cheered happily when our baby was born. Jay and I cried tears of joy. And we named her Grace Adams because she was God’s most beautiful gift to our family.
Megan’s POV
“Hey, what happened to you?” one of my cellmates kicked me in the back as I curled up in pain while staring at the wall in front of me. I tried not to moan at all, but the pain was unbearable.
They placed me and five others in one cell. We slept on bunk beds and I slept on the bottom bed.
My lower abdomen hurt so much that it felt like my life was on the line. I could not stand up or scream and I felt something oozing and wetting my bed.
“Argh, she’s bleeding. It looks like she’s going into labor. Get the guards over here!” my cellmate shouted.
