His Virgin, His Concubine

Chapter 30

The doors to Mehmet's chambers close behind us with a soft finality that echoes through my bones. The trial is over. My family—destroyed. Kemal—broken. Everything I thought would bring me satisfaction feels hollow, empty, like ash in my mouth.

Mehmet's hand finds mine, warm and solid. I turn to face him, and the look in his eyes stops my breath.

"Leyla." His voice carries something I've never heard before—vulnerability wrapped in certainty. "What we did today... what you did today..." He shakes his head, as if words fail him.

"You stood before the Sultan and chose justice over vengeance. You could have demanded their heads, their suffering, but instead you chose the people they hurt. Do you understand how extraordinary that is?"

I don't know how to respond. The words lodge in my throat.

He steps closer, both hands cupping my face now, his thumbs tracing my cheekbones with reverent gentleness. "Marry me."

The words don't make sense. I stare at him, trying to parse their meaning, but my mind can't seem to grasp what he's asking.

"Marry me," he says again, and this time his voice cracks slightly. "It's a choice, your choice. I won't force you. But if a smallest part of you wants to..."

He draws a shaky breath. "I love you. I adore you. And of course, the palace intrigues are intense, but... what we did today, it's so important. The person of your integrity, your kindness, your mind, your beauty... I won't forgive myself if I at least don't try to make myself yours in all the ways that matter. Would you want that, Leyla?"

The question hangs in the air between us. My heart hammers against my ribs so hard I'm certain he can hear it. Marriage. To a prince. To Mehmet. The man who found me broken in a tavern and taught me I was magnificent. Who sees my mind as valuable as my body. Who trusts me with empires and secrets and his own wounded heart.

I think of that first night, when I believed I was choosing my own destruction. How he gave me back myself instead. How every day since, he's shown me what it means to be chosen, not as decoration or obligation, but as an equal. As someone worthy.

"Yes." The word breaks free before I can even think it through. But the moment it's spoken, I know it's right. Excitement blooms in my chest, spreading warmth through every limb. "Yes, I want that. I want you."

His smile transforms his entire face. Gone is the cold, calculating prince. This is just Mehmet—the man who held me through nightmares and made me laugh in libraries and demanded I see my own worth.

"Say it again," he whispers, his forehead pressed to mine.

"I love you too," I breathe. "Very much. And I can't say no—not because you won't let me, but because my heart wouldn't let me."

I don’t trust words anymore. I kiss him instead. Hard, certain, trembling just a little. The promise still hangs between us, warm and unspoken, as he lifts me gently from the cushions and carries me toward the bed.

There’s no rush this time. No frantic tearing. Only reverence. His hands trace over me like I’ve already said yes, like he already belongs to me in return.

He lays me down carefully, eyes locked on mine the entire time. I watch his expression as he undresses me, piece by piece, his fingers slow and sure, mouth brushing each patch of exposed skin. Every touch feels like a vow.

When he joins me on the bed, his body pressed along mine, I can’t stop touching him. My palms move over his chest, his arms, the curve of his shoulders. I want to memorize all of it—this night, this version of us.

“Are you sure?” he whispers against my lips.

“Yes,” I whisper back. “But not just about that. About you.”

His mouth crashes into mine with a groan, and his hands slide down my sides, pulling me closer until there’s no space left between us. Our legs tangle, heat blooming.

When he pushes into me, it’s slow, almost hesitant, like he’s savoring every second of the connection. I gasp, fingers tightening on his back.

“I’ve got you,” he murmurs, voice thick with emotion. “I’ll always have you.”

We move together in a rhythm that feels older than either of us, something we’ve returned to rather than discovered. His hand cradles the back of my head, lips never far from mine. There’s nothing rushed, nothing frenzied. Just heat and devotion, thick in the air between our mouths.

My breath hitches as he shifts the angle, his hand sliding beneath my thigh to draw me closer. The change is perfect. My head falls back, and he kisses the line of my throat, moving slowly, steadily, as if to stretch this moment for as long as it can last.

“I want to remember everything about this,” I manage.

“You will,” he says, kissing the hollow beneath my ear. “Because I’ll remind you every day.”

Pleasure builds, patient and steady, coiling low in my stomach. I cling to him as it crests, and when it finally breaks, I shudder in his arms, breath caught in my throat. He groans softly and follows soon after, his release quiet and deep.

He stays inside me for a long time after, our breathing the only sound between us. When he finally pulls back, it’s only far enough to tuck me against his chest, his fingers combing gently through my hair.

“Leyla,” he whispers, like a prayer.

I press a kiss to his collarbone. “Yes.”

“I meant it. All of it.”

“I know.”

The room is quiet. His heartbeat is steady beneath my cheek. I think of what’s to come, and for once, the unknown doesn’t terrify me. With him, I feel solid. Wanted. Chosen.

His hand finds mine and laces our fingers together.

“We’ll face everything together,” he says.

And I believe him.

He doesn’t let go of me right away. His hands keep moving—over my ribs, my hips, the soft swell of my stomach. He touches me like I’m sacred, like he’s still memorizing me even though he’s already mapped every inch.

“You’re shaking,” he murmurs.

“Because I still don’t believe this is real.”

He lifts himself just enough to see my face. “Do you want me to prove it again?”

I laugh, breathless. “Not yet. I want to stay in this a little longer.”

He nods, brushing my hair away from my eyes, his thumb stroking the corner of my mouth. “You can have as long as you need.”

His body shifts so we’re flush again, his arm curling beneath my waist, holding me steady. I bury my face in his neck, breathing him in—salt and skin and something uniquely him.

“I used to dream of someone saying those words,” I admit softly. “Of being chosen.”

“You’re not just chosen,” he says. “You’re wanted. Every day. Every breath. That’s what I’m offering you.”

I close my eyes. The silence between us is full and warm.

Eventually, I lift my head, letting my fingers drift down his chest. He’s still half-hard against my thigh, and I know he’s holding back for me. Waiting.

I shift just enough to guide him back inside, slow and careful.

His breath catches, but he doesn’t speak. We move together again, unhurried. There’s no urgency now, only depth, only connection. He holds my gaze the whole time, like this is the answer to every question we never dared to ask.

This second time is quieter. Softer. But no less intense.

When it ends, I feel fuller than I ever have. Not just from him—but from everything we’ve said without speaking.

He wraps us in the covers, pulling me into his chest.

And this time, when his lips brush my temple and he whispers, “Sleep, my love,”

—I do.

With no fear.

No doubt.

Only peace.
