Goodbye, My Mate

Chapter 189

Ch. 189 / 291 Aug 06, 2025

Lucas' POV

The air was thick with anticipation as I approached Finn's study. The faint hum of voices drifted through the closed door, a symphony of secrets and sins. I paused, my hand hovering over the doorknob, the weight of curiosity pulling me in. The scent of polished wood and faint cologne lingered, a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing within.

Inside, the sounds intensified—a chorus of moans and screams that sent a chill down my spine. My heart pounded in my chest as I realized the depravity unfolding behind those walls. I didn't need to see it to know what was happening. Finn's study had become a haven for vice, a place where power and pleasure intertwined in the most grotesque ways.

I stayed in the shadows, my breath shallow, as Finn emerged from the study, his face etched with anger. His eyes blazed with fury, a storm of emotions swirling behind them. He was on the phone, his voice low and venomous, a dagger aimed at the heart of someone far away.

"Gean," he snarled into the receiver, "make sure Leo completes the fucking project on time. If he fails, I'll administer K15 and sell him at the slave market. You'll watch as he's raped by rogues until there's nothing left of him."

My blood ran cold at the mention of Gean and Leo. The names were familiar. Gean, the canny assistant of Leah who eventually betrayed her, was the life comapnion of Leo, Leah's younger brother, another Lycan Prince, my brother-in-law, and the enigmatic scientist whose created the Enhancement Project and some very disturbing drugs. Their partnership was a nightmare waiting to unfold.

But why were they captured by Finn? They were supposed to be sent out of the Kingdom.

As Finn stalked away, his anger unresolved.

The study doors creaked open, revealing a procession of half-naked men, their bodies marred by blood and bruises. They shuffled past me, their eyes vacant, their souls shattered. Slaves, used and discarded like worthless objects. The sight was enough to make my stomach churn, to remind me of the fragility of life and the depths of human depravity.

I couldn't shake the disbelief. How could someone who had once been a slave perpetrate such atrocities? The irony was sickening, a bitter pill that left a sour taste in my mouth.

I slipped into Finn's study, my movements furtive, my mind racing. The room was a fortress of secrets, its walls concealing untold sins. I sifted through the files on the desk, my fingers trembling with anticipation. Each document was a piece of the puzzle, a clue to unraveling Finn's twisted plans.

The sound of approaching footsteps snapped me back to reality. I ducked behind the desk, my heart pounding in my ears. The door creaked open, and in walked a servant girl, her presence a stark contrast to the chaos that had preceded her.

She knelt on the floor, her hands busy with cleaning supplies, oblivious to the danger lurking in the shadows. I watched her for a moment, weighing my options. Time was running out; I needed to act swiftly.

I tore off my jacket, ripping open my shirt to expose my chest. The blade of a knife glinted in the dim light as I slashed across my skin, the pain sharp but manageable. Blood trickled down my chest. I was still very weak. The wounds couldn't heal themselves.

As I collapsed onto the floor, I forced myself to look vulnerable and confused. My breathing came in ragged gasps, each one a testament to my struggle. The servant girl noticed me almost immediately, her eyes widening in alarm.

"Are you...?" she whispered, her voice tinged with concern. "Are you hurt?"

The air was thick with tension as I lay on the floor, my chest heaving with shallow breaths. The servant girl knelt beside me, her hands hovering over my arm, hesitant to touch me. I didn't answer her questions, my silence a shield against the reality of what had happened. I was supposed to be weak, broken—a discarded toy of Finn's twisted games. But inside, I burned with a fire I couldn't extinguish.

When her hands finally touched my arms, a surge of pain rippled through my chest, sharp and electric. It was impossible. I no longer had a heart, yet the pain was real, raw, and undeniable. I clenched my jaw, forcing myself to remain still, to play the part of a broken man. But the pain was a reminder of something deeper—a connection I couldn't explain, a thread tying me to this girl in ways I couldn't understand.

"Please," she whispered, her voice trembling. "You need to leave. You're not supposed to be here alone. Alpha will be mad."

Her urgency was palpable, her fear evident. But before I could respond, she froze, her eyes wide with panic. "He's coming," she whispered urgently. "Hide. Hide now!"

I didn't hear anything, but somehow I trusted her. She dragged me toward the closet, her strength surprising given her size. The wooden doors creaked as she pushed them shut, leaving me trapped in the darkness. Through the sliver of light between the doors, I saw her hesitate for a moment before turning to face whatever was coming.

The sound of footsteps echoed outside the door—loud, deliberate, and filled with rage. Finn was coming.

"I'm too weak," I thought to myself. "Even a servant girl could detect the sound faster than me."

My heart raced, but I forced myself to stay still, to breathe quietly. The last thing I needed was for Finn to suspect something was wrong.

The door burst open with a crash, and Finn stormed into the room. His face was contorted with anger, his eyes blazing with a madness that sent chills down my spine. The servant girl flinched as he approached, but she didn't move, didn't make a sound. She knew better than to defy him.

Finn's gaze swept the room, landing on the girl with a predatory intensity. "Why the fuck are you here?!" he growled, his voice low and dangerous.
