Chapter 26

Ch. 26 / 43 Apr 30, 2026

The Sun

– Are you serious? – Dionna looked skeptically at her friend Nari, – you rejected him? And he just left? Just like that?!

– Uh-huh, – Nari nodded.

The girls were sitting on the roof of their dormitory, eating sandwiches that Leo had made for them. In a small paper bag nearby were many colorful candies that Nari had given to Kae.

– And you rejected him?!

– Yes.

– With words?! You said no?!

– I said "yes" and didn't leave, – the girl waved her hand in irritation, – of course, I said "no"!!!

– But why?! – Dion kept insisting, – doesn’t he like you?

– Well...

– Oh, don't even start! It's written all over your forehead! He can't get you out of his mind since your first meeting!

– So what?

– You clearly like him too. Otherwise, he wouldn't have invited you! So why?!

– Because my place is here!

– No, – Dionna rolled her eyes, – you didn’t decide that. They decided that for you. But you don't want to be here!

– I want to be with you, – Nari smiled gently, – with you and Leo. How could I leave you here? Especially since a new phase is coming soon, and...

– Nari, – Dion took her hands, – you can’t constantly take care of me.

– Only I can support two flowers at once, – Nari said seriously.

– They didn’t just put me against you, – Dionna said quietly, – do you think they will allow you?

– I won't be asking for permission!

– Nari, we are omegas. Not submitting to an Alpha means death. Have you forgotten?

– Do you think I should just leave everything as it is and let them take you to the farm?

– Oh, tree! And you're an optimist! – a voice came from behind, and Iris jumped over the railing, sitting between Nari and Dion, nonchalantly reaching for a sandwich.

– Hey!.. – Nari slapped his hand.

– Don't be stingy, – the golden-haired one pushed her hand away, – are you going to refuse a hungry person?

He took the sandwich and bit into it with appetite.

– Mmm, – he said while chewing, – it's a crime. You can’t have such delicious food and not share it.

– Then you should’ve asked him to cook for you too, like before, – Nari said slyly, – why are you robbing me?

– Because you won’t refuse me, – Iris licked his lips, – if you ask him, that demon will cook anything for you. So, I’ll just use you as a shield and get everything from your hands.

– But it would be tastier from his hands? – Dion whispered to him from the other side.

– Definitely, – Iris replied dreamily, then snapped back to reality, – biting off both his arms to the elbow is a great idea.

– Great thought, – Nari stretched, – helpless Leo. No resistance at all.

– No resistance at all, – Dionna echoed.

– No resistance... – Iris echoed after them, – wait, stop! Stop this immediately. Are you mocking?!

– You’re mocking yourself, – Nari nudged him with her shoulder.

– I would just tell him everything as it is, – Dion supported her.

– Uh-huh, uh-huh… no idea what you girls are talking about, – Iris stood up, – I actually came here regarding the singing. There are rumors that regardless of the outcome, they will still take you out of the Arena.

– What nonsense… – Nari sighed heavily, – The Tree needs the song of omegas! My call is strong! Why take me out of the game?! Is it really that I would be of more use on the farm?!

– You won’t go to the farm, Nari, – looking her in the eyes, Iris said, – not you. They didn't prepare you for the farm.

– What are you talking about?...

– Anyway, show yourself, – the young man said seriously, – if you close this phase well, you’ll have time while they figure out how to remove you. If you fail the phase – you’ll go straight to the Adelsons' estate.

Without waiting for her reply, he jumped over the railing again and walked away. Nari followed him with a heavy gaze. Iris always appeared, quickly shot them some information, and darted off as if it didn't concern him. It was almost the same now. The only difference was that his voice didn't sound indifferent. He was anxious, tense.

– I have to work hard for both of us, – she whispered to herself, – I need to get both flowers out at any cost.

– Nari, – Dionna smiled, – you know that I love you, right?

– And I love you, – Nari hugged her around the neck, – very, very much, Dion!

– If only... the sun would peek out... – Dion said sadly, looking at the cloudy sky.
