DEFEATED (SHY BOOK 2)

Chapter 9

Ch. 9 / 135 Apr 13, 2025

Indianna noticed Rogue discreetly sniffing the air. He glanced to Indianna and raised his eyebrows.

"This is Tai and Raiden," Indianna filled in. "Brother and sister."

Rogue looked them up and down. "Now, you don't look to friendly," he smiled and nodded to Tai. "Very pretty, but very dark."

Tai crossed her arms over her shoulders. "Stop staring at me, creep."

"Tai!" Raiden hissed.

Rogue tensed and Indianna groaned internally. "Jason, I need to talk to you-"

"Not now, sister," Rogue snapped. "I'm currently busy."

"Sister? Brandon didn't tell me you had a brother," Raiden said to Indianna and she frowned at him.

"Brandon shouldn't be telling you anything about me-"

"Sister, when will your petty feud with Brandon end," Rogue tutted. "It's quite stupid actually."

Indianna opened her mouth to protest, but thought better not too.

Rogue smirked to himself. "So you've made friends with Brandon Fox?" Rogue questioned.

Raiden nodded.

"Good, you don't want to get involved with the wrong sorts in this town," Rogue said and looked to Tai. "What about you, Tai? Who have you made friends with."

"Tai isn't a people person," Raiden said.

"You must have spoken to some people," Rogue urged.

Tai glanced at Indianna.

"Ah, my sister and her friends," Rogue nodded and Indianna froze when Rogue slung his arm over her shoulder, his hand on her arm.

His hand that had killed her father. Raped and abused Brooke. Killed Cassie. Scarred her.

And killed Greyson.

"My sister knows that I don't approve of her friends," Rogue said.

"They seem nice," Tai shrugged.

"Not everyone is as they seem," Rogue said and Indianna wanted to roll her eyes at the irony. "Well, it was lovely meeting you two. I'll see you around, neighbours." Rogue turned on his heel and pulled Indianna with him.

"I-"

"Werewolves," Rogue said. "When were you going to tell me, sister?"

"Yesterday," Indianna lied. "But you didn't really give me the chance."

Rogue sent her a look. "They didn't seem to sense that I was a werewolf," Rogue said. "Keep an eye on them, inform me of any changes. I shall put Brandon on it as well."

"Okay," Indianna said quietly.

"So, my mate isn't happy with you. She's rather upset. Do you know why?" Rogue asked as he entered his house. Indianna stopped on the threshold and stared inside. It seemed so familiar yet so foreign.

"No," Indianna said as she forced herself to step inside.

"You're avoiding her."

"I'm not," Indianna lied. She was. After what happened in the changing rooms she avoided Stacy at all costs.

"What have I told you about lying?" Rogue snapped. "We wouldn't want a repeat of poor Brooklyn now would we?"

Indianna lowered her gaze. "No," she muttered, and added "sorry."

"Why are you avoiding my mate?"

"I... I don't know," Indianna said. "I just... I don't talk to many people."

"You'd think now Greyson was gone and not keeping you by his side constantly you'd talk to more people," Rogue tutted and Indianna wanted to kill him. She couldn't stand his name coming from Rogue's lips. She couldn't stand his name being said at all really. "Oh, that's not a nice look, little sister. You do know your mate tried to attack me, I was only defending myself."

"You didn't have to kill him!" Indianna yelled, surprising herself and Rogue. "You said you wouldn't kill him! You said it could kill me as well!"

"I lied. I took a chance. Clearly you are alive, little sister. It was a chance well taken," Rogue shrugged.

Indianna stared at him with an open mouth. He had no remorse. "He was my mate! He is my mate!" She exclaimed, her voice cracking. "And I'm your sister! How could you do that to me!"

"You're better without him," Rogue said dismissively.

"No! I'm not! I'm destroyed without him! I don't ever want to leave my house, I don't ever want to talk to people, I never want to do anything! I just want Greyson!" She cried. "And that's your fault!"

"You're blaming me for your social awkwardness?" Rogue raised an eyebrow. His tone wasn't friendly. He didn't appreciate Indianna yelling at him.

"You killed the only person I would ever love. How would you feel Stacy was killed?" Indianna asked quietly.

"Why are you here, sister?" Rogue snapped.

"Janson's pack," Indianna said.

"Ah, that Alpha is very stubborn. That didn't turn out well for you," Rogue said and tutted.

"Don't hurt them," Indianna pleaded. "If I can get them to agree to the same terms as us, will you leave them unharmed? They will lead the pack, but under your rule?"

Rogue pursed his lips and crossed his arms over his chest. "I was rather hoping there might be a little bloodshed."

"Please," Indianna whispered.

"Why should I leave them unharmed?"

"Because you've already hurt me so much, please don't do it again."

Rogue raised his eyebrows. "Don't try and manipulate me, little sister. Are you dead? No. Whatever I do to you doesn't matter as long as you are able to stand in front of me like you are today."

"Jason!" Indianna gasped. "Please do this one thing."

Rogue crossed his arms over his chest. "Don't say I never do anything for you, sister. If they disagree, I will slaughter them."

*Indianna was sat in Greyson's office. She had just arrived back from talking to Rogue. She looked at the phone on the desk and sighed. She didn't want to call Janson and tell him his options. She didn't want him so say no and Rogue kill him and his entire pack.

Ace walked in, startling Indianna. "Sorry," he said and looked at Indianna seriously. "How did it go?"

"Rogue agreed," Indianna told him. "Now I need to get Janson to."

"That's good," Ace nodded. "What about your mother?"

Indianna shook her head. "I didn't ask. Once he agreed I wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible."

"That's understandable," Ace nodded. "Seeing him willingly... Indie, that was really brave."

"I don't feel brave," Indianna mumbled. "I'm too scared to call Janson."

"I'll do it," Ace said and winced as he lowered himself down on to the couch. "You've done the hard part. Let me help."

"Thank you," Indianna said quietly.

"You need to go and have dinner and go to bed. You look exhausted," Ace said softly.

"We're all tired and exhausted," Indianna said dismissively.

"It's not just you you're looking after," Ace said. "You need to take care of your baby."

"Our," Indianna said under her breath. "Mine and Greyson's."

Ace nodded sadly. He still couldn't accept his death. It hadn't settled in. Ace felt like he was going to see Greyson in a couple of days time but he knew he wouldn't. "Go, rest," Ace said.

"Once you've called Janson you rest too," Indianna said. "You're still healing."

"I'm fine," Ace said. "I'll let you know how it goes with Janson."

"Thank you," Indianna nodded and rose from the seat. She smiled at Ace as she walked out of Greyson's office and made her way to the staircase.

"Indie!"

Laura called Indianna when she saw her walk past the kitchen. Laura was cooking something, it smelled divine, but Indianna didn't have much of an appetite these days.

Indianna stopped and looked at Laura. She hadn't seen her in a while so she slowly walked into the kitchen.

"Indie, my love," Laura said and hugged Indianna. "How are you?"

Indianna shrugged her shoulders and sat down on a chair.

"You don't look well, Indie," Laura frowned. "Have you been eating?"

Indianna nodded.

"How much?"

Indianna's hands went to her stomach. "Not as much as I should be. I can't stomach anything."

"Oh," Laura sighed. "Sit down. I'll dish you up some of this."

"I-"

"Sit, Indie. I'm not only looking after you, but I'm looking after my grandson or granddaughter," Laura said and Indianna slid onto the seat at the counter. "How is Brooke doing? What happened... It was awful."

"She's not doing good," Indianna admitted. "She's faking it."

Laura sighed. "How are you doing?"

Indianna shrugged her shoulders. "Not any better."

"Have you... Have you been to his grave yet?"

Indianna shook her head. "I can't."

"It's hard," Laura said. "But it might be good for you if you did."

Indianna took a deep breath. "I don't think I can."

Laura smiled sadly and slid a plate of steaming food in front of Indianna. "Give it time," Laura said softly.

"Rogue knows about the new werewolves in town," Indianna said once Laura had gone back to cooking.

"What has he done?"

"Nothing, yet," Indianna said through a mouthful of food. "He wants to keep an eye on them. I want to tell them to get out of town, but I don't think he'll let them now he knows about them."

"That's such a shame," Laura murmured.

"I don't want to bring anymore people into this mess," Indianna sighed.

"You can't control that, Indie-"

"I have to try," Indianna groaned.

*Indianna, there's a scent on the territory.* Harry's voice filled her mind and Indianna frowned.

*Whose scent?*

*Unknown.*

*Where?*

*East border. I was walking with Brooke and I smelt it. I caught a glimpse of the wolf, I didn't recognise him.*

Indianna frowned. *Could it be Tai or her brother?*

*No, I would have recognised their scents.*

*Then who is it?*

*Good question,* Harry said.
