Chapter 24

Ch. 24 / 135 Apr 13, 2025

"And Harry still blames me," Sasha said. "Moody bastard."

Brooke chuckled. "Sorry," she said.

Sasha rolled her eyes. "I'm going to order some food," she said and stood up from the booth.

"Brooke, I need to tell Rogue," Indianna said suddenly. "I don't want a repeat of what happened after I hid the pregnancy."

Brooke sighed. "I don't want a repeat of that either," she said. "Tell Stacy, tell her to tell Rogue. She would appreciate you telling her and that will look good to Rogue."

Indianna nodded and got out her phone. "I'll call her." Indianna dialled Stacey's number and after a few moments she picked up.

"Indie, babe, hi!" Stacy said. "What's up, b?"

"Stacy, I need to tell you something," Indianna said. "About the baby."

"Is everything okay?" Stacy gasped.

"Everything's fine. Great, actually," Indianna said and rubbed her stomach. "I went to the hospital today. I found out the gender."

"Oh, how exciting!" Stacy squealed. Opposite Indianna, Brooke cringed, hearing Stacy over the phone. "What is it?"

"A girl," Indianna said. Stacy gasped. "And a boy."

"Twins!" Stacy said. "That's amazing! Congrats, babe!"

"Thank you," Indianna said. "Could you let Ro-Jason know?"

"Of course, he'll be so excited to meet them!" Stacy gushed. "I'm so happy for you, Indie!"

"Thanks, Stacy," Indianna said. "I've got to go. I'll speak to you soon."

"Okay, babe! Speak soon!" Stacy called and Indianna hung up.

"It's done," she said and Brooke nodded, just as Sasha returned to the table.

The girls made small talk for a while before Sasha looked at Indianna, biting her lip nervously. "Can I ask you something, Indie? It may be extremely rude, but it's been bugging me."

"What is it?" Indianna asked cautiously.

"Are you pregnant?"

"Wow, be blunt about it," Brooke said.

"I'm so sorry if you're not, it's just that there's been some rumours, and you're getting a little bit of a belly-"

"There's been rumours?" Indianna wondered.

Sasha paled. "Just a few-"

"I am," Indianna said.

Sasha's mouth dropped. "Seriously? You're pregnant?"

Indianna nodded. "Yes."

"Crikey, I wasn't expecting you actually be up the duff," Sasha gasped. "Gosh, congratulations!"

Indianna smiled. "Thank you. Brooke and I have just been to the hospital actually. It's twins."

"Oh my god, are you joking?" Sasha demanded. "Twins?! That's insane!"

Indianna ran her fingers through her hair. "Tell me about it."

"So... are you telling people? Like is it public knowledge?" Sasha wondered.

"I think I've hidden it for long enough," Indianna said. "So feel free to gossip and make the rumours true."

"You'll be fine," Brooke said confidently and smiled at Indianna.

Indianna nodded. "Let's hope."

Brooke looked up when the door to the diner opened and she saw Raiden walk in, pulling Tai with him. "Please!" He was saying. "Just try and get to know him!"

"All I wanted to do was go for a run and you ambushed me!" Tai said, gesturing to her running attire. "I'm not your mum, I don't need to meet your friends, Rai!"

"He's just worried that you've heard bad things about him," Raiden said.

"Bad things?" Tai said. "Why would he think that? Unless he's actually done something bad."

Raiden glanced across the diner and caught eyes with Brooke. "He's aware that his cousin doesn't quite like him at the moment, and he's worried that because you seem to have made friends-"

"I haven't made friends with her."

"He's worried you're not going to give him a chance. He's a nice guy. Please, let's just have some food and chat-"

"You barely know this kid," Tai groaned.

"We've just clicked," Raiden shrugged.

"God, you get attached to people easily," Tai muttered and she sighed when Raiden pushed her into a booth.

"Just meet him once. Properly. That's all I ask."

Tai rolled her eyes. "Fine, whatever, but you're buying me food."

Raiden smiled brightly. "Great."

"Rai, do you know why Brooke hates him?" Tai wondered.

"He just said that she exaggerates things way out of proportion," Raiden said dismissively. "He's done nothing wrong."

"Is that what he told you?" Tai raised her eyebrows. "Because from what I've heard he's not a decent guy."

"What have you heard?"

"Not much, but he doesn't seem like a good cousin."

"Let him change your mind," Raiden smiled.

"Sure, whatever," Tai said and crossed her arms over her chest.

"Tai," Raiden sighed.

"What?"

"Please."

"I said sure."

"You also said whatever!"

"Do you like him or something?" Tai asked. Raiden didn't say anything. "Oh my god, you like him!"

"Shut up," Raiden said. "We're just friends!"

"You like him!"

"Just shush!" Raiden muttered and went slightly red. "He makes me feel nice."

"Does he make you all gooey and warm on the inside?" Tai asked sarcastically.

"It's like there's fireworks whenever we touch," Raiden said. Tai froze. "I know that sounds cheesy, don't take the piss, Tai, but there's just something that feels right- and I know it's not been long-"

"Fireworks?"

Raiden blushed. "Yeah, like... sparks."

"Shit," Tai breathed.

"Oh, he's here," Raiden said and sent Tai a look. "Please be nice."

"No promises," Tai said and watched as Brandon walked towards them.

Brandon smiled at Raiden, but his eyes landed on Brooke. "I'll be two minutes, I'm just going to talk to Brooke."

Brooke stiffened when she noticed Brandon headed her way and she groaned. "Freaking great," she muttered. "Brandon, I don't want to talk to you-"

"I just want to see how you are-"

"Fantastic, now leave me alone!"

"Brooke, my parents miss you at home-"

"Don't bring them up!" Brooke snapped. "Don't try and guilt trip me!"

"Please just listen to me. Harry's got into your head, he can't be trusted, he's full of shit!"

"Oh, that's rich, coming from you!" Brooke gasped. "Why can't you get it into your head, I don't want to see you!"

"We're family!"

"The hell we are!" Brooke hissed. "What you did was unforgivable!"

"Brandon, it's time for you to leave," Indianna said firmly. She looked over and saw Raiden watching their exchange curiously.

"Now," Brooke snapped.

"Brooklyn-"

"Right, that's it, I'm going," Brooke said and stood up.

"Okay, fine, I'll leave you alone!" Brandon muttered. "You're going to talk to me, Brooke. One day."

Brooke sat back down and Brandon walked back to Tai and Raiden.

"What happened between you two?" Sasha whispered as her food was brought over.

"You don't want to know," Brooke sighed.

*

"She really doesn't like you," Tai said as Brandon made his way over to their booth and sat down next to Raiden. "Why is that?"

"Brooke holds silly grudges," Brandon said dismissively.

"Silly?" Tai called.

"Yes," Brandon said.

"What happened?" Tai pressed.

"Tai," Raiden warned.

"What? I'm just getting to know your new... friend." Tai's eyes flickered between the two guys and they glanced awkwardly at each other.

"So," Brandon coughed and looked at Tai. "How do you like this town?"

"I wouldn't complain if we moved," Tai said.

"Oh... so you don't like it?"

"Just doesn't seem very safe," Tai shrugged. "Did you know the guy that was murdered? Indianna's boyfriend?"

"Murder?" Raiden gasped and Brandon stiffened.

"Yeah... it was horrible-"

"Yeah, awful. How anyone could do or be involved in such a horrendous thing, I don't understand. Makes me sick that there are people in the world like that." Tai wasn't sure what Brandon had done, but she had got the gist that he had something to do with Greyson's death, and judging by Brandon's reaction she was right.

"It was... a rough time for Indianna, and her friends," Brandon said stiffly.

"What happened?" Raiden asked.

"Brandon, you tell him, you were here when it happened. All I'm repeating is the things I've heard."

"I don't really think we should talk about it-"

"Don't you?" Tai asked. "Why not?"

Brandon squirmed. "It's not really a happy topic."

"Brandon's right, lets talk about something else," Raiden nodded.

Tai leaned back and raised her eyebrows. "Let's talk quick because I did have plans before Raiden dragged here."

"Tai, stop being rude," Raiden muttered.

"Me? Rude?" Tai asked innocently. "Brandon, do you think I'm rude?"

"N-no."

Tai smiled at Raiden who shook his head at his sister and started up a conversation with a much lighter tone.

Tai watched Brandon carefully.

She came to the conclusion that she didn't like him.
