Darling, You Lose

Chapter 38: Alexander’s Last Resort

Ch. 38 / 60 Apr 26, 2025

“This ends tonight.” Alexander’s voice is as cold as the steel of the gun he’s loading. His fingers are steady, methodical, as he checks each chamber, making sure everything is in place. He knows what needs to be done. There’s no room for hesitation anymore. Elena’s life is on the line, and it’s time for him to take action.

The last few days have been a blur—nights spent pacing, planning, and preparing for this exact moment. He’s tried every other option, every other plan to get her out of Rafael’s grip. But nothing worked. Rafael is too powerful, too relentless. The only thing left is to end it all, once and for all.

Alexander’s thoughts flicker to Elena, trapped in that estate, far from anyone who could help her. Her face flashes in his mind, her eyes full of fear, but still with that spark of defiance. That’s what kept him going all this time—the fact that she hasn’t given up, even when she’s been broken down again and again.

He clenches his jaw, a tight anger building up inside him. “I’m coming for you, Elena,” he mutters under his breath, gripping the gun tightly in his hand.

His phone buzzes on the table beside him. He picks it up, his eyes scanning the screen. It’s a message from Nolan, one of his trusted allies.

“It’s done. The men are in position. Are you ready?”

Alexander’s reply is quick, his fingers barely pausing as he types.

“It has to be tonight. There’s no more time.”

He slips the phone into his pocket and stands, his eyes hardening with determination. His every move is calculated, methodical. The plan is simple. He’s going to take Rafael down, and with him, Elena’s chains.

But Alexander knows something else, too. This isn’t just about saving Elena anymore. It’s personal. Rafael has crossed too many lines. He’s not just the man who took Elena away from him—he’s the man who’s destroyed everything. Tonight, Alexander is going to make sure Rafael never hurts anyone again.

But there’s a catch. A catch that Alexander hates, but knows he has no choice but to accept. He needs inside help. Rafael is too guarded, too protected, for him to take down on his own. There’s one person who can help him—and that person is one of Rafael’s most trusted men.

His phone rings, cutting through the silence of the room. The name on the screen is familiar, and his heart skips a beat.

“Is it done?” Alexander asks immediately, his voice tense, his mind already in the next step of the plan.

“Almost,” the voice on the other end replies. It’s low and raspy, a man who’s been through more than his share of dirty jobs. “But you need to make a deal with me first. I’m not going in there without something in return.”

Alexander’s teeth grind together. He knows who this is—Victor, one of Rafael’s right-hand men. A man who knows the ins and outs of Rafael’s operations like the back of his hand. But Victor is no fool. He knows what’s at stake.

“What do you want?” Alexander asks, his patience thinning.

“I want out. Rafael’s been too much, too dangerous. I can’t stay in his world anymore. I want a clean slate. No one comes after me. No one touches my family. And in return, I’ll help you get Elena out. I’ll give you the opening you need to take him down.”

Alexander’s mind races as he processes the offer. It’s risky. It’s dangerous. But it’s the only way. If he doesn’t take this chance, he might never get another one.

“You think I’m just going to trust you?” Alexander asks, his voice low, barely a whisper.

“I’m giving you a choice, Alexander. Betray Rafael, or die with him. It’s that simple. I don’t care about anything else. You want to save her? This is your only shot.”

The silence on the other end of the line stretches on for a few seconds. Alexander can hear the faint sound of Victor breathing, the tension thick in the air.

“You have 10 minutes,” Alexander says finally. “Get ready. I’ll meet you where we planned.”

Without waiting for a response, he hangs up, the weight of the decision settling in his chest. He hates this. He doesn’t like making deals with traitors. But he has no other choice. Elena’s life is worth any price.

He straps the gun to his waist, pulls on his jacket, and heads out the door. The night is dark, the air thick with the scent of rain. The streets are empty, but Alexander’s mind is full—of plans, of thoughts, of everything that’s led up to this moment.

As he walks, he keeps his eyes sharp, scanning the shadows, ready for anything. He knows this won’t be easy. Victor might betray him at any moment. But right now, there’s no turning back.

His phone buzzes again, this time a message from Nolan.

“All set. We’re ready when you are.”

Alexander glances at the message and then shoves the phone back into his pocket. He’s ready. He has to be.

The alley where he’s meeting Victor is quiet, the sound of distant cars and the soft patter of rain the only noises breaking the silence. He steps into the shadows, his eyes narrowing as he waits for Victor to appear.

The minutes feel like hours. Every second drags, every thought swirling in his mind.

And then, from the darkness, Victor steps forward, his face partially hidden in the shadows.

“Let’s get this over with,” Alexander says, his voice low, but filled with the authority he’s always carried.

Victor nods, and without another word, they both disappear into the night, the weight of the plan hanging between them.

It’s now or never.
