Darling, You Lose

Chapter 52: Alexander Learns the Truth

Ch. 52 / 60 Apr 26, 2025

“You don’t even know what she really is, do you?” The voice sneers from the shadows, dripping with contempt. Alexander feels a jolt of frustration, his muscles aching as he shifts against the cold stone wall, the chains clinking as he moves. His head throbs from the wounds he’s sustained, but his mind is still sharp, still focused on Elena, despite everything.

He’s been trapped for days now—chained, bloodied, and at the mercy of Rafael’s men—but there’s something more nagging at him, something he can’t quite put his finger on. The words of the guard echo in his ears, taunting him. What did they mean? What’s Elena’s secret?

Alexander clenches his jaw, trying to ignore the taunting tone of the man who stands in front of him. The guard leans in closer, his breath foul and warm against his skin.

“I know what she is,” Alexander spits back, his voice rough. “You’re the ones who don’t get it. She’s not just some toy for him to play with.”

The guard laughs, a cruel sound that sends a shiver through Alexander. “You really think that, huh? You don’t even know the half of it.”

With that, the guard walks away, leaving Alexander alone in the dark, his mind racing with the implications of what he just heard. He could barely think straight through the pain, but something about the guard’s words is gnawing at him. Elena wasn’t just another victim, was she?

The sound of footsteps echoes down the hallway outside the small, damp cell. He hears voices—the low murmurs of Rafael’s men, the conversations flowing in and out of earshot. His heart beats faster, every part of him yearning to catch any fragment of information that might help him, might help Elena. He strains his ears, trying to pick out anything useful.

“Did you hear?” a voice whispers from just beyond the door. “Rafael’s got the girl right where he wants her. He’s been waiting for this, for years.”

Alexander leans forward, barely breathing, desperate for the next words.

“She’s not his first, you know,” the voice continues, almost gleeful. “He’s done this before, trapping women. Breaking them. And Elena? She’s just the latest in a long line.”

His stomach sinks. Not the first? Alexander’s mind spins. This changes everything. He always thought Rafael’s obsession with Elena was personal, unique—something twisted but still focused on her. But hearing this, it sounds like it’s all part of a much darker pattern, a sickness in Rafael that’s been repeated before.

“I knew she was special,” another voice says, quieter, almost regretful. “But I didn’t think it ran this deep. He’s broken every one of them. Turned them into... what? Dolls? Playthings? I don’t know. But I’m telling you, Elena won’t be different.”

Alexander’s blood runs cold. The idea of Elena being broken, of Rafael slowly twisting her mind, eroding her will—it’s unbearable. He has to get out of here. He has to find her. But how? He’s chained to the wall, too weak to fight back.

“And now?” The first voice asks. “What’s he going to do with her?”

“Nothing different,” the second voice answers. “He’ll keep her here, just like the others. And when he’s done with her? He’ll move on. He always does.”

The words hit Alexander like a punch to the gut. Move on? Elena isn’t just some girl to Rafael, then. She’s a tool, a prize, something for him to conquer, break, and discard when it’s all over. He’s done it before. But Elena—she doesn’t deserve that. He can’t let her end up like the others. He won’t.

Then, as if to add to the weight of his thoughts, one of the guards mutters something that sends a shiver down Alexander’s spine.

“Did you hear what he said?” The guard’s voice is barely a whisper, but Alexander’s heart races to catch the words. “Elena isn’t just Rafael’s prisoner. She’s his obsession.”

The word obsession cuts through the thick air of the prison like a knife. Alexander’s mind whirls, the pieces finally falling into place. Rafael’s obsession with Elena is deeper than he thought—it’s not just about control, about ownership. It’s something more twisted, more personal. She’s more than just another conquest; she’s his fixation, his obsession in a way that goes beyond anything Alexander can fully understand.

But it makes sense now. All of Rafael’s actions, his manipulations, the way he’s held Elena captive for so long—it’s all been leading up to this. He doesn’t just want Elena to be his; he wants to own her completely, body and soul. He doesn’t just break women—he crushes them, molds them into whatever he needs them to be.

Alexander’s chest tightens, his anger rising like a tidal wave. He can’t let this happen to her. He won’t let her fall into that hell. Not after everything she’s been through, not after everything she’s sacrificed.

His chains rattle as he shifts again, fighting against the confines that hold him. There’s no way he can let Rafael get away with this. No way he can let Elena become just another casualty in Rafael’s sick game.

He can hear the voices growing quieter, the sound of footsteps retreating. But the words keep swirling in his mind, tormenting him. Elena isn’t just Rafael’s prisoner. She’s his obsession.
