Crown Me in Vengeance

Chapter 5:

Ch. 5 / 20 Sep 10, 2025

Mafia families from across the country filled the ballroom, their voices weaving through the orchestral music, a symphony of power and whispered deals.

The night was filled with the scent of roses and faint traces of expensive cigars. The grand Cattaneo estate shimmered under golden chandeliers, its sprawling gardens adorned with white roses and towering crystal vases.

Tonight wasn't just a wedding. It was a statement.

Loreley stood at the center of it all, the embodiment of poise and perfection.

Her wedding gown was a masterpiece—silk and lace, sculpted to her form, the delicate off-shoulder design leaving just enough skin exposed to tempt but not scandalize. A diamond necklace, a gift from Dario, rested against her collarbone like a brand.

She was the perfect mafia bride.

And yet, the moment she stepped into the grand ballroom, she felt the weight of absence.

Her family wasn't here.

Not her father. Not her brother or sister.

Not even her mother. The only person who seems to care about her. The only person her father forbade to have any contact with Loreley in any way possible after the night of Zayden's betrayal.

Perhaps to show her the ultimate rejection by her family.

Perhaps to make her exile even more painful.

She had known they wouldn't come—her family had disowned her, after all—but seeing the empty space where they should have been sent a sharp pang through her chest.

The murmur of voices followed her as she walked past.

"Who is she?" "Where did she come from?" "Dario never lets anyone close. And now he is marrying this girl?"

She smiled through it all, lifting her chin, ignoring the whispers. She had won this battle. She had embedded herself in Dario's life, wrapped herself in his world.

The only thing left was to make sure she was the one pulling the strings.

She turned her head, seeking Dario in the crowd. And when she found him, her breath caught.

He was already watching her.

Dario stood near the main table, effortlessly commanding the space around him. His black tuxedo was perfectly tailored, the top button undone, a hint of arrogance in his stance.

But it was his eyes—dark, predatory—that sent a slow chill down her spine.

Something felt wrong.

There was a glint in his gaze, something knowing. For the first time since she set this plan in motion, Loreley felt uneasy.

Still, she played her part. She glided toward him, a perfect vision of devotion, slipping her arm through his.

"My husband," she murmured, letting the word roll off her tongue like a secret promise.

Dario smirked, lifting her hand to his lips. But when he pressed a kiss to her knuckles, his voice was barely above a whisper—low, intimate.

"You think you've won, dolcezza?"

Her stomach twisted.

She barely had time to process the words before he was guiding her onto the dance floor, pulling her into the first dance as applause filled the room.

And for the rest of the night, she danced in the arms of a man who knew something she didn't.

The mansion was silent when they returned.

The grand halls of the Cattaneo estate stretched endlessly before her, all dark marble and cold elegance. It should have felt like a castle.

Instead, it felt like a tomb.

Dario was behind her, his presence overwhelming, a dark shadow pressing against her back. She moved toward their bedroom, keeping her pace steady, keeping her breaths even.

Then the door shut. And everything changed.

The air shifted, something thick and suffocating curling around them.

Loreley turned—slowly, carefully—only to find Dario watching her with that same unreadable expression.

A muscle in Dario's jaw twitched. "You did well tonight," he mused, stepping closer. "Everyone believes the illusion."

She forced a small smile. "Good."

His hand shot out, fingers gripping her chin, tilting her head up. "But we both know it's a lie."

Her breath caught.

Dario leaned in, his lips grazing her ear. "Did you really think I wouldn't find out who you really are, Loreley Moretti?"

Everything inside her went still. For a heartbeat, the world tilted, her pulse hammering so loudly she could barely hear anything else.

He knows.

Dario chuckled, releasing her with a slow shake of his head. "You must think I'm an idiot."

Loreley swallowed hard, keeping her expression carefully composed. "How long have you known?"

Dario unbuttoned his cufflinks, rolling up his sleeves with infuriating ease. “Long enough.” He tilted his head. “It was amusing, watching you try to weave your little web. Watching you pretend you weren’t studying me, using me.”

She forced herself to meet his gaze, her mind racing. “And yet, you still married me.”

Dario’s smirk was razor-sharp. “Of course I did.” He stepped forward, crowding her space. “Because now you belong to me.”

She clenched her fists. “I don’t belong to anyone. Not to you, either.”

Dario’s hand shot out, fisting in her hair, yanking her head back sharply. A gasp slipped past her lips.

His grip wasn’t painful—yet—but it was possessive, dominant. His voice was a low murmur, just a breath beyond her lips. “You will.”

Loreley’s pulse thundered, but she refused to look away. “If you knew, why did you not stop me?”

Dario’s thumb brushed over her lower lip. “Because it’s so much more satisfying to let you think you had a chance.”

Her stomach twisted violently. Then he released her, stepping back. His expression darkened, amusement fading.

“I own you now,” he said simply. “And if you ever think about betraying me, I will burn down everyone you care about. One by one.”

Loreley held her breath as he reached into his pocket, pulling out a set of photographs.

He tossed them onto the nearby table. Her stomach dropped.

The first was of Riley, leaving the nightclub. The second, of her mother, sitting on the balcony of the Moretti estate, a target painted over her fragile existence.

Loreley’s blood ran cold.

Dario’s voice was almost bored. “It would be a shame if something happened to them, wouldn’t it?”

She lifted her gaze, her breath shaky. Dario smiled.

Loreley barely had time to react before Dario’s hand was on her throat, pushing her back against the edge of the table.

“Say it,” Dario murmured in her lips, his grip tightening just enough to remind her how little control she had left. “Say you understand.”

She swallowed hard, her nails digging into the table’s polished surface. The cold amusement in his eyes sent a shiver down her spine.

He wanted her fear. He wanted her submission.

She refused to give him either.

But Riley—her mother—

Her silence was met with sharp consequences. Dario didn’t need to raise his voice. He didn’t need to scream.

“Now be a good girl and take off your dress, dolcezza.” Dario commanded, his eyes dark with lust.

With trembling hands, she reluctantly undid the buttons and let the dress fall to her feet, leaving her exposed in just her delicate undergarments. His gaze traveled over her body possessively, each lingering glance causing her skin to prickle.

He approached her slowly, closing the distance between them before grabbing her wrists and pulling her against him.

Her heart raced as his hot breath ghosts over her face and he leaned in to whisper cruelly, "You're mine now."

She winced as he pushed her onto the bed roughly, stripping off his clothes before doing the same to hers. He crawled over her, every touch aggressive and unforgiving.

His mouth found hers in a series of bruising kisses while his fingers roamed from her breasts down to her inner thighs. She wanted to look away, to escape into the darkness of her mind, but he held her gaze.

Dario's hand slipped between them to position himself at her entrance, showing no consideration for the lack of warmth or wetness as he pushed into her.

Pain shot through her like a knife as he began moving inside of her—slow at first but quickly gaining momentum. Tears prickled behind her eyes as he continued his relentless assault on both body and soul.

He fucked her like a man possessed, his hips slamming into her with a relentless rhythm that had her writhing beneath him. His body slapped against her flesh with every brutal stroke, the slap of skin on skin echoing through the room like a filthy symphony.

By morning's light, she lay motionless on their marital bed. Every inch of flesh throbbed with pain and exhaustion; all that remained was a shattered shell of a woman who had known love only hours prior.

With a satisfied smirk, Dario pressed a hard kiss to her temple before leaving their bedroom.

"Get some rest, dolcezza," he murmured with sinister tenderness. "We had so much time ahead, I’m not done with you yet. From now on, you are my little precious whore."

Loreley gritted her teeth, pushing away the burning in her chest.

If she was going to survive this, if she was going to take back control—

She would have to become exactly what he wanted. She would let him believe she was his. She would let him think he had won.

And when the time was right? She would destroy him from the inside out.
