A New Scheme

Ch. 98 / 99 Feb 16, 2026

The excitement within the pack was buzzing like an unspoken melody carried by the wind. News of Mira’s extraordinary powers and her pregnancy spread far and wide, reaching even the most distant corners of neighboring packs. Whispers of admiration and awe were on every tongue, and Mira’s name became synonymous with strength, resilience, and hope.

But not everyone celebrated her success.

Liana sat in her dimly lit quarters, her fingers drumming rhythmically on the edge of a polished oak table. The flicker of the single candle cast her sharp features in a sinister glow, amplifying the intensity of her contemplative gaze. She had been silent for days, plotting, analyzing, and waiting for the perfect moment to act. The news of Gareth’s demise had initially shaken her, but the fire of her ambition quickly reignited. With Gareth gone, there was now no one to challenge her authority—or so she believed.

Liana leaned back in her chair, a wicked smile curling her lips. "Mira thinks she’s won," she murmured to herself, her tone dripping with malice. "But she has no idea what’s coming."

She stood abruptly and strode to the corner of the room, where a concealed compartment in the wall held a carefully hidden stash of gold coins and a map. Pulling the items out, she spread the map across the table and studied it intently, her eyes narrowing on the territories she had marked as key to her plan.

Summoning her most loyal guards, she wasted no time in issuing her orders. Her voice was calm but commanding, carrying the weight of her unspoken threats. “Prepare for a journey,” she told them. “We leave before dawn. I will not tolerate delays.”

Her guards exchanged uneasy glances but nodded in unison, leaving her alone to finalize her preparations. Liana’s mind raced with thoughts of vengeance and strategy. This time, there would be no mistakes.

As she exited her quarters, adjusting the hood of her cloak, she nearly collided with Terry in the hallway. The younger wolf leaned casually against the wall, his arms crossed, a smirk plastered across his face.

“And where are you sneaking off to, dear sister?” Terry’s tone was light, but the mockery in his eyes was unmistakable.

Liana’s jaw tightened, but she quickly masked her irritation. “Mind your own business, Terry,” she snapped, brushing past him.

He pushed off the wall, following her with slow, deliberate steps. “You always have a plan, don’t you?” he mused. “And they always seem to blow up in your face.”

Liana stopped abruptly, turning to face him. “Stay out of my way, Terry,” she warned, her voice low and dangerous. “You have no idea what I’m capable of.”

Terry’s smirk widened as he leaned in closer. “Oh, I think I do,” he said, his voice dripping with amusement. “That’s what makes this so entertaining.”

Her hands clenched into fists, but she forced herself to remain composed. “Enjoy your little games while you can,” she said coolly. “They won’t last.”

With that, she turned on her heel and strode away, her heart pounding with fury. She didn’t need his approval or his interference. This time, her plan would succeed, and she would claim what she believed was rightfully hers.
