“I don’t think we should keep being cat and rat. It doesn’t benefit any of us,” Beauty replied with a shrug.
Jessie threw her hands up in frustration and plopped down on the bed dramatically.
“Beauty, you cannot be serious! This is Kathy we’re talking about! Did she cast some kind of spell on you?”
Beauty sighed and shook her head.
“Jessie, I know Kathy has been... difficult in the past. But people can change. And if she’s sincere about her apology, I think it’s worth giving her a chance.”
“Don’t worry, Jessie, I don’t care if you forgive me or not. I only asked Beauty for her forgiveness,” Kathy said with a proud expression on her face.
Jessie rolled her eyes.
“Kathy, please give her some time,” Beauty said.
Kathy smiled back.
“Believe me, Beauty. I don’t care. Anyway... you two enjoy your bonding time. I’ll leave you alone now.”
With that, she turned and left the room.
Jessie jumped to her feet.
“Are you kidding me right now? This is Kathy! The same Kathy who caused your emotional breakdown many times!”
Beauty sighed.
“Jess, that was before, not anymore. People can change. Maybe she really means it.”
Jessie snorted.
“Change? Kathy? The only thing that girl changes is her Instagram filter. Don’t be naive.”
“She deserves a chance, Jessie. She is still human.”
Jessie threw up her hands in exasperation.
“Fine! But when this blows up in your face, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
Beauty smiled and went back to admiring her jewelry.
“Okay, now that that nonsense talk about Kathy is over, let’s talk about the real issue here: the diamonds. Do you realize what this means?”
Jessie said and joined her.
“What?”
Jessie let out a dramatic squeal, pulling Beauty into a tight hug.
“My bestie is dating a billionaire who showers her with diamonds. And I am going to benefit from it! I am going to steal them from you, don’t worry, your man is safe—maybe not.”
Beauty laughed, gently pushing Jessie off her.
“You will never change, wild cat.”
“You better get him to hook me up with his rich friends, if at all he has any,” Jessie said with a disappointed look.
Before Beauty could respond, a knock at the door startled them both.
“Come in,” Beauty called, smoothing her hair.
Bruno opened the door and found the two friends staring at him in some way.
“Am I interrupting something?” he asked, his voice laced with nervousness and amusement.
Jessie wasted no time and sprang to her feet.
“You! Mr. Billionaire! Good job with the diamonds.”
Bruno’s lips twitched in a smile as he looked past her, his eyes locking with Beauty’s.
Beauty felt her heart skip a beat, her face growing warm under his gaze.
“Thanks babe, I didn’t know they were real diamonds and that expensive. I certainly don’t care, really, but I’m grateful that you spent such a huge amount on a gift,” she said slowly.
Bruno chuckled, stepping further into the room.
“It’s really not that expensive; they’re just diamonds. Not a big deal...”
Jessie’s jaw dropped.
“Just diamonds, he says?! This is so unfair,” she. “Where’s my billionaire prince?”
Beauty blushed shyly.
“It’s still very expensive.”
“For you, it’s not”.
Bruno said drawing closer to her.
“I will leave you two now, and cry about my lonely single life,” Jessie announced and left the room.
As soon as they watched Jessie left the room, Beauty turned to Bruno with a playful gleam in her eyes. She pulled him closer by his tie, her lips curving into a mischievous smile.
“You’re really so sweet to get me that many diamonds. What am I? Some princess?” she teased.
“A queen,” Bruno kissed her.
Beauty leapt into his arms, making him stagger slightly before catching her. Laughing, he carried her effortlessly to the bed, where she wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Baby, I don’t have money to gift you diamonds, but I’ll have to make it up to you somehow...” she whispered seductively.
Bruno smirked, his voice low, feeling a tight squeeze in his groin at the voice she used.
“Oh? And how do you plan to do that?”
Beauty leaned in close, whispering something in his ear that made his eyes widen briefly before he burst into laughter.
“If you talk that way to me again, we’re gonna cancel the trip today... I’m getting hard.”
“Bring it on,” Beauty giggled.
But just as things were heating up, the door creaked open. Neither of them noticed immediately, lost in their intimacy.
“Am I interrupting?” a voice startled them.
Beauty froze, recognizing the voice, and she closed her eyes tightly and cursed inside.
“Sorry for not knocking, cowgirl,” Jessie said, her mouth twitching like she was trying not to laugh.
“Forgot my phone.”
For a long moment, none of them moved.
Beauty’s face turned crimson as she scrambled off Bruno, practically tripping over herself in her haste.
“Jessie! I-uh-this isn’t what it looks like!”
Jessie raised an eyebrow, walked over to the nightstand where her phone was, and picked it up.
“Chill..girl! He is your boyfriend, what’s new? Don’t act like you guys didn’t... fuck all night.”
“Jessie!” Beauty snapped.
Jessie turned to leave, but paused at the door, giving them both a pointed look.
“Don’t mind me. Continue your... cowgirl riding. Just keep it down. Some of us are still single and bitter.”
She walked out, shutting the door behind her.
The second she was gone, Beauty let out a mortified groan, burying her face in her hands.
“Oh my God, I can’t believe that just happened. She’s never going to let me live this down.”
Bruno laughed, pulling her into his arms.
“You were doing great.”
Just then, his phone vibrated in his suit pocket.
He glanced at the screen. Abigail. He sighed quietly, picking it up.
“It’s my sister,” he said, keeping his tone neutral as he looked at Beauty. “I’ll handle it quickly.”
Beauty nodded, though her hands tightened in her lap. She tried to keep her expression calm, but her heart raced a little faster. She already had a guess about what this was about.
Not until now did she really think about what Bruno’s family would think of her.
He’s Hathaway’s heir!
This is not a joke!
What will they think of her?
