Chapter 285

Ch. 285 / 324 Jul 29, 2025

The oil painting was mottled, but it was still possible to tell that she was a rare beauty. At first glance, her eyebrows and eyes were really like Sara's.

Freya took a closer look. He then said. "Actually, if one were to carefully look at it, it would not look like it at all. Sara's eyes would be a bit more soft."

The corners of Sara's lips curled up bit by bit, and her fingers were almost trembling.

Alex frowned as he sensed that something was wrong with her. "Sara?"

Sara forced a smile. "... Nothing, it's just a little scary. Let's go forward."

"Okay." Freya nodded.

After walking for a while, Sara suddenly turned back and looked at the mottled oil painting.

It didn't look like a coincidence.

Sara recognized the person in the painting.

It was Caroline.

Who drew such a portrait for Caroline, and who put it in this villa which had been haunted for hundreds of years?

All of this was like a poisonous snake that tempted Adam to pluck the fruit of wisdom and entice Sara to investigate it. Sara did want to immediately go to the person in charge of the haunted house to ask about it, but she held back.

She could already faintly sense the surging waves of the events of the past. She could not show too much, because she did not know how many eyes were behind her back to look at her.

Later, Sara was absent-minded all the time. When she went out of the ghost house, Freya was about to collapse. She held Sara and cried, "I'll never come here again! It's too horrible!"

Scarlet was speechless. "There's no one here who wants to come. They're all dragged here by you, aren't they?"

Freya cried even harder.

Alex bought Sara an ice cream and asked, "Are you really okay?"

Sara shook her head. "I'm really fine."

Alex squinted his eyes and wanted to say something, but he didn't say it in the end. He said, "Someone came to pick you up?"

"Hmm," Sara said. "You guys should leave first."

After watching them leave, Sara turned back to the Gate Room and said to the staff, "I just left something in the Ghost Room. Please find the person-in-charge here. It's a very valuable item."

After hearing this, the staff dared not delay, and quickly went to find the person in charge of the ghost house. It was a bald middle-aged man. He smiled at Sara and said, "Miss, what have you lost?"

Sara looked around and said, "I'd like to ask about the painting on the second floor of the villa. Did you buy it for the decoration?"

"The painting on the second floor?" The person in charge thought for a moment and said, "No, it's not. It's originally in this villa. After we took over the painting, we thought it was beautiful, so we didn't move it."

"Is it originally in the villa?"

"Yes." Seeing that she was a beautiful little girl, the person in charge of Ocean Park spoke in a friendly manner. "Miss, did you throw something there?"

Sara shook her head slowly. "I remember that I didn't bring that thing out. It didn't fall off. Thank you."

The person in charge felt a little baffled, but he still nodded in a good temper. "That's good."

Sara licked her lips and said, "I want to ask, who bought this villa?"

"Why do you ask this?" The person in charge of Ocean Park was a little alert. "Are you talking to a member of your family?"

Sara was speechless. "Is there an enemy in the Ghost Pavilion these days?"

She smiled. "No... I'm very curious."

There was nothing to say. The person in charge said, "It was bought from a real estate businessman named Lara. He said that the house was originally a cousin of his and he wanted to sell it."

Lara...

Sara nodded. "Thank you."

After returning to the Reminisland, Sara called Bella and asked him to check the Villa No. 44 of Lara and Road for her.

Hank came back late at night and Sara had already fallen asleep. He looked at the sleeping little girl and took his clothes to another room to wash up. He didn't want to wake her up.

However, Sara had something in her heart and did not sleep well. After he took a shower and entered the house, he woke up and looked at him.

Hank said, "Did I wake you up?"

Sara rubbed her eyes and muttered, "Why are you back so late today?"

"Everyone in the parliament has a long speech." Hank lifted the blanket and lay down on the bed. He pinched Sara's cheeks and said, "I heard for no reason that you asked him to look into things for you."

"Mm." Sara told Hank what she saw in the haunted house today, "I think Road No. 44 has something to do with my mother."

Hank said, "Your mother's case was very complicated. She doesn't want you to investigate further."

Sara smiled and said, "But I always want to give her justice. A late justice is also justice."

Hank's heart skipped a beat.

He leaned over and looked at Sara. The little girl's face was pale and looked particularly delicious. The old man couldn't help but bite on her cheek. Sara let out a cry and quickly covered her face. "What are you doing!"

Hank laughed softly and said, "I think you're very cute."

He said, "If you want to check, just check it out. Uncle will always be with you."

"... Thank you," Sara said softly.

"Thank me?" Hank raised his eyebrows. "You still only know how to thank me verbally."

Sara's face immediately turned red. "It's just a verbal thank you! I don't have anything else!"

She turned over and did not look at Hank. With her back to him, she clearly stated her position.

Hank held her in his arms and chuckled. "It's okay. Even if you're so stingy, I still like you."

Sara: "..."

He soon found out the result. Lara was a real estate businessman with a large business. He was a typical rich man and relied on his wealth. More than 20 years ago, he was just a poor guy who moved bricks in the construction site. Later, after he recognized a good relative, he gradually got in touch with real estate. This person had no contact with Caroline.

As for the villa No. 44 Road, it was owned by Lara's cousin, Liam, who hired Lara to sell it. Liam died one year ago because of illness.

Hank had the painting bought by someone. He could be sure that it was originally a half-body portrait and had been cut out from a big canvas. After inspection, the painting was drawn 18 years ago. Caroline was just 20 years old on the picture. She had passed through the dress when attending a charity party and had no other information.

Could it be that Liam, the owner of No. 44 on Road, was the same as the person in charge of the Ghost House? Did she put the painting there simply because it was beautiful? Or was she thinking too much?

Sara looked down at the painting frame in her hand.
