His lips found hers, soft and pillowy, and fireworks began to sizzle.
He’d have stopped if she got mad and smacked him.
Instead, she kissed him right back with a wild- hot passion. She kissed him like a starving little sex fiend hungry for his mouth, and so much more, by the way she moved her hips and rubbed against his erection. The friction of their clothes heightened the excitement and the hope, at least on Jack’s part, that they would be able to take them off at some point.
“I tripped on your keys,” she groaned against his
mouth, rubbing her breasts over his chest. “They’re on the floor, so you’d better get them and go.”
“I’d better,” he murmured, grabbing the opening of her jacket and peeling it away from her shoulders. Impatiently she shrugged the jacket off, refusing to break the connection of their kiss.
In turn, she tugged at the lapels of his sport coat, which he removed without having to break their heated lip-lock. He flung his coat out of the way and reached out to squeeze her breasts, his fingers flicking over the outline of her distended nipples, nipples he wanted so badly to suck.
He slipped down the strap of her top and her bra, reached in and cupped a breast, shocked by how plump, lush and warm it felt inside his palm. She moaned. Her breath fluttered against his skin, teasing at the need in his body.
Neither seemed headed out the door anytime soon.
Suddenly, his cell phone buzzed inside his jacket.
“Hell,” Jack said.
Lei went still in his arms, too. Much as he would have loved to ignore the call, he fished his phone out of his jacket just as Lei picked his keys up off the floor and dropped them in his lap, grinning at the massive lump created by his erection.
He breathed a sigh of relief when she left the room. His date was on the line, and she was waiting. Jack promised he’d be there, hung up, and went looking for the beautiful stranger. He wanted her number, and no way was he letting her leave until he had it.
She was gone. No trace of her in the lounge, the little copy room, the reception area inside the office. She wasn’t out in the hall, and the sitting area where the bank of elevators opened up to was empty.
Jack searched Keely’s desk for a copy of Lei’s job application. Nothing.
He hadn’t dreamt her. Her perfume lingered on his skin, his clothes. He wasn’t imagining his raging- hard cock or the desire that buzzed throughout his body.
Jack sighed and made his decision. Dinner with Dayna, then he’d drop her off at home. The woman he desperately wanted to make love to had disappeared into thin air.
His secretary would know how to get hold of her.
He had no doubt about that.
8:01 a.m. Monday morning
“I’m sorry, Mr. Sloane, I don’t know how to get hold of her,” Keely broke the news to him. She’d stepped into the office earlier to a ringing phone with Jack on the other end of the line, anxious to get moving on her sister’s background check.
No doubt he’d gotten lucky on Friday night, while she had been a mental wreck after running out of the office. She’d taken the stairwell to avoid waiting for an elevator. On her way to the Lime Leaf, she’d skulked around hibiscus hedges, palm trees. She’d blended in with crowds-anything for cover just in case Jack was sitting in traffic nearby.
“Keely, she’s your sister.”
“Er, sure. But…she’s always losing her cell phone and I’m forced to leave messages at any number of places where she might be staying.”
Silence.
Keely smiled. What do you think of your prospective job applicant now, Mr. Sloane? Keely wondered, hoping he’d immediately lose interest.
His deep laugh vibrating across the phone took her by surprise. “So she’s a little bohemian,” he mused. “Look, I’m on my way in, but run that background check as soon as possible. Please.”
“So, you’d hire her? Just like that?”
“We-e-ll, no. I wouldn’t. A friend of mine runs a resort out in Makaha and has agreed to take her on if she wants to work someplace closer to home, doing the same job she came here to apply for. And since when did we need an accountant?” he asked. “We use Kalani-Keeler.”
“I-she might have misunderstood. We’re looking for a front desk hospitality rep.”
“That’s what I thought. Well, it doesn’t matter.
We’ll find a good fit for her somewhere…”
Just not at this hotel, Keely thought, and knew exactly why Jack was pushing Lei in the other direction. It wasn’t for altruistic reasons. Jack kept his lovers—or potential lovers—outside the workplace, thank goodness.
She’d worked in offices where the boss slept with everything in a skirt, and hated the secretive looks and sexy banter that went on.
She also knew firsthand the heartache of being accused of sleeping with the boss. She shuddered at memories that seemed to forever taunt her, and looked down at the clothes she wore; thrift store specials and the ugliest fat-heeled arch-support shoes that money could buy.
If Jack’s girlfriends ever saw her, they’d never have to worry about him making moves on his secretary.
