“…and,” Jack said abruptly, “gentlemen don’t kiss and tell. Have I told you enough to assure you that I would like to get to know your sister?”
Her mind floated back down. “Mm-hmm,” she said, ripples of her climax ebbing gently from her body. She patted her skirt into place.
“So, what are we going to do about it?” “We? Who’s we?” Keely asked, confused.
“We two. Me and you. You and me. What do I do? Send her flowers? Exotic sweets? Would Lei like that?”
Keely rested her cheek in her palm and smiled. “Oh, she would like that a lot, Mr. Sloane!”
“Roses. The flowers have to be roses.”
“Hmm. A nice mix of dusky pinks, plum, all colors of blue, and cream, I think. Oh, and white- chocolate dipped Sunset Tango cherries from La Petite Sweets. They’re her favorite.”
Jack chuckled. “I see this is going to cost me a pretty penny, but your sister is worth it. Where do I send them?”
Keely froze. She hadn’t given a thought to an address. She could just kick herself! She might be forced to produce Lei sooner than she wanted. “Oh, I was thinking…it would be a good idea to just send it here, and I’ll deliver them to her myself.”
“Why can’t I just send the roses and cherries directly to her?”
“Because, Mr. Sloane, I know you want it. Her address, I mean. Let me talk her into coming down and dropping off her application. Having the flowers and fruit here will be an extra surprise when she arrives, and will warm her right up about the idea of having lunch or dinner with you. Er, what if she still doesn’t want to go out with you?”
“What?” he asked, shell-shocked at the thought.
“What if you don’t get a return on your investment?”
“Let me worry about that. You worry about getting Lei in here. Please.”
She smiled. “I’ll do that, Mr. Sloane.” Keely hung up, and minutes later Jack buzzed her again.
“Because of the colors, the roses won’t be delivered until the day after tomorrow. Late afternoon.”
Good, Keely thought. She’d picked the rarest color roses to find on the island and was banking on more time; time to figure Lei out of the mess Keely had gotten her-them-into.
“Let me e-mail Lei again and ask her if she can come in Wednesday afternoon.”
He said nothing.
“Mr. Sloane, are you okay?”
“I can’t see this woman until Wednesday. What do you think?”
You’ve got two days worth of cold showers, that’s what I think! Keely wanted to say, but she couldn’t even find humor in that. She’d be taking cold showers, too!
She didn’t know who was being punished more, Jack or herself. The laugh was on her, now.
Jack wanted the mysterious Lei, and the quickest way to lose his interest, Keely thought wickedly, was for Lei go to bed with him.
