Waking up the next morning, I don’t get up in a rush. When my alarm goes off, I shut it off and just stare at the ceiling in thought. I need to figure out why my mate’s scent was at that crime scene. Things just don’t add up in between the scenes. The way these victims were killed were similar but not the same. The theory matches about the hitman killing our first victim but after that nothing sits right. It’s like the puzzles fit the spaces but they aren’t the right piece. I sigh, this one was going to drive me crazy. If it wasn’t for my mate’s scent honestly, I don’t think I would take a second glance at this case and would just draw it up as someone being caught in gang business and they paid the price for it.People will never learn that these gangs......that these people were dangerous. That they didn’t care about you, nor do they care if your killed or not. They just want the money they think they are owed; they are twisted and dangerous people. Many innocent people have been hurt or killed because a family member or friend got involved in some way. Trying to prevent the unnecessary kills is the only thing that me and Michael can fully agree on with no argument. It’s why we specialize in drugs and gangs; we want to try to make a difference. But if we were honest with ourselves.... We won’t. Drugs are the one thing that remains constant in this world along with the people who want to profit off of them. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try anyway.I mentally give myself a pep talk before making myself get out of bed. Getting ready for the day I try to go over my daily checklist of things to get done. Today, was Tuesday so I needed to get laundry started tonight when I get home, I needed to look at the bills that are due this week and next week, of course I need to water all of my plants. I was slightly a plantaholic, I have 2 or 3 plants of some sort in each room of my house with the exception of my living room.... there’s like 15 in there. I think they are a great way to brighten up a room but also clean the air in a home, plus when you start with one, they just get addicting. Walking out of my bathroom done with handling my business and taking care of my morning routine I make my way into the kitchen. I think, I’m going to have avocado toast and coffee for breakfast. Of course, I will snack through out the day and pack a full lunch box of snacks and my lunch. My wolf gives me a fast metabolism which is great because my body looks fantastic, but it can be a bit a pain in the ass when I feel hungry all the dam time and it tends to affect my mood. Before getting into my car, I lock up the house, I take my phone out of my back pocket and look at the time. I was debating if I had enough time for a run or not. I didn’t go all out when getting ready this morning, no makeup and my hair was just in a ponytail. I can make my self look presentable16

again very quickly. I had an hour before I needed to be at work. It took 30 minutes to get to work from my house. I made a quick decision and put my things into the car and walked towards the woods near my house. I glanced around not make sure no stray hikers were near by and started shedding my clothes and folding them neatly on the ground near a tree that I used often as the place I put my things when my wolf needs a run.

Honestly my wolf doesn’t really need to right now. But I think that this would be a good way for me to destress but also it helps me think better and that is exactly what I needed right now to help figure out this case. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath in and let go...letting my wolf take center floor for her to take control of our body. I felt the shift take place. It was a lot smoother than my last shift due to me not bursting with the energy and need to run. It didn’t take very long before I was on four feet.... sorry paws. I didn’t control where we were going, I just let my wolf have control and just told her we only had a few moments to run and that we were on a time limit. She understood that some days we couldn’t go for hours on end...she didn’t like not being able to, but she understood.

People would think that our wolves would have names since they were almost separate conscious beings inside us, but they don’t. They are separate yes... but they are apart of us just as much as we are of them. She is me and I am her. My mother explained it to me when I first started shifting as a pup, like a separate personality that I had. Now that I’m older, I can see why she explained it in that way, but I would disagree with her. My wolf is not just another side of me, just part of my personality. She was her own being. I think of my wolf like a sibling but sharing the same space as me. I try to give her common curtesy, I think and speak to her and give her time in control.

My pack would think this as going rogue. They believe that we should always be in control and that our wolves were something that we needed to conquer. Ever since I was a pup, I disagreed with the pack elders and their thinking in that aspect. I believed that our wolves needed to be treated as equals and that they weren’t just a thing to be controlled. We share bodies and they feel trapped of course we have wolves who go rogue. They feel tired of being trapped all the time, so they take over and sometimes they stay in control and won’t let that person come back.

Me and my wolf have an understanding that we each get time to be in control and if we want control of each other’s form we needed to give permission first. Neither of us wants that feeling of being trapped...being discarded. This is one of the reasons I left my pack as well. My parents were scared of me going rogue because I refused to take control of my wolf and never let her out. They had gone as far as trying a convention with the elders of the pack. That was the last straw for me. After that I told them I was leaving and moving to Portland. Of course, it’s not the only reason I left. I just never felt like I totally belonged there. I didn’t want to take over my mom’s shop. I didn’t want to stay in the pack. I felt like an outsider, without actually being one. It was an odd feeling and I wanted it to stop. So, I made the decision to take control and try to find a place that I feel like I belong to.

Looking through my wolfs eyes I saw that she had stuck close to home, and I sent her a loving thought and she did the same. I let her frolic for a few minutes before giving her a mental bump to let her know that it was time to head back. I watched as she turned towards the direction of where I left my clothing but before she got very far, she stopped. I waited to see if she would keep going, but she kept looking around her and turning in every direction. I mentally bumped her again, wondering what was wrong. My wolf doesn’t speak to me very often but when she does when something important has caught her attention.

I think I caught the scent of our mate.

I waited a few seconds, hoping that she was wrong. That hope was dashed when she bolted off in the other direction of the house. I watched as she jumped over sticked and squirmed underneath dead trees she couldn’t jump. As quick as she took off, she stopped. Instead of the forest filling with shrubs and trees we stopped on the edge of a clearing. In the clearing was a red wolf. He was huge. If I was in human form his head would be at my hips. He was also a gorgeous wolf. He looked healthy and he looked strong. He was currently in a crouch look at some deer that were eating in the clearing and I was watching his muscles move underneath his pelt. I felt my wolf crouch down in a hunting stance. I panicked. We could not get in another wolfs way during a hunt. My wolf felt my panic and sent a comforting wave to me trying to calm me down.

We will be fine. Mate will not hurt us. Besides I don’t want to hunt. I just want to watch.

I mentally sighed. Thank God. I did not want to be in a fight today. We stayed there at the edge of the clearing and waited for our mate to make take the deer by surprise. We didn’t have to wait for very long, once he was close enough and about to make his move the deer must have caught his scent because he tensed and looked up and around her before she bolted. Unfortunately, for her she didn’t get very far, and our mate had caught her within seconds. Luckily, the kill was quick, and he didn’t drag it out like most wolfs would. Wolves tend to like the hunt and wants to try to be in the moment for as long as possible. Once he caught his kill, our mate settled down and started enjoying his kill. My wolf slowly stood back up and slowly started moving in his direction. I sent a cautious thought to her, and she reassured me that we were safe.

Once we were a few feet from our mate we saw him tense. He caught our scent and heard us approaching. I urged my wolf to stop and let him come to us the rest of the way. I felt her reluctance, but she listened, and we stayed in our spot. We watched as he got up and turned around, his gaze met ours and he froze. His wolves’ eyes were bright gold. I was entranced. My wolf sat down and whined wanting him to come close, but on his own terms. We waited a few minutes. We just stared at each other. Neither of us moving. Getting slightly inpatient my wolf shuffled a little and barked at him. That seemed to break his trance. He slowly took a few steps in our direction. Once he was close to us my wolf leaned in and started sniffing his snout. He growled a little and she froze, waiting to see what he would do. He leaned in closer and moved his snout down to our scruff taking in our scent. My wolf wagged our tail happy that he was smelling us. I rolled my eyes at her. She was so weird. My wolf took that as a green light on our end and started sniffing him once again making her way down to his scruff. He didn’t growl at us again, so she took that as a good sign and stood up and I swear she started rubbing up against him like she was a fucking cat. What the fuck. I sent an irritated thought at her. I felt her huff annoyed with me. She stepped away from our mate and he was watching us.

I was about to take control to shift so I could finally see my mate for the first time in my life. Hopefully I would be able to figure out why his scent would be in that crime scene and we it was just a whole misunderstanding. Of course, it wouldn’t be my life it was that easy. Before I could, our mates head swiveled and his ears twitching. He looked back at us and barked. He stomped his front leg down on the ground. My wolf tilted our head. What is he trying to say?

I think mate wants to meet here again

Unfortunately, until our mate bond was completed, we couldn’t communicate in our wolf form. No wolf could unless they were mated to each other or in the same pack. My wolf barked at him and tilted her head. He huffed and he moved his paw in on the ground. We watched him repeat his motions a couple times. I realized that they were numbers. He wanted to meet here at 6:00. I urged my wolf to nod our head, so he knew we understood. He barked at us once more before turning and running from the clearing. Me and my wolf sigh. Well...I guess we have to wait just a little bit longer until we could officially meet our mystery mate.
