Alpha of My Heart

Chapter 15

Ch. 15 / 30 Sep 07, 2025

Valeria had barely taken two steps out of her dorm when someone barreled into her, cutting off her stride and nearly knocking her off balance.

She recoiled, heart kicking up, and lifted her gaze.

The man before her stood stiff and unmoving in the standard black-and-silver uniform of the Academy's security team. The polished buttons gleamed under the hallway lights, and the patch of the Juvenile Academia crest, a stylized phoenix rising through five intertwined rings, was stitched cleanly onto his shoulder. He didn’t so much as flinch from the collision.

"The council asked to bring you," he said, voice dry and robotic, already turning on his heel like a machine fulfilling protocol.

Valeria narrowed her eyes. "The council? What council?"

But he was already walking, not bothering to reply or look back.

Her fingers curled instinctively around the strap of her satchel, knuckles white. She cast a glance back at the dorm hallway, bright, familiar, safe, then forced herself to follow, boots echoing against the marble floor.

At first, the route seemed routine, threading through wide, arched corridors lit by golden sconces and accented with velvet banners. But as they passed deeper into the academy, the lighting dimmed.

The walls grew tighter, colder. He turned sharply down a side passage she’d never noticed before, narrow and half-lit, stone replacing marble. Then came the stairs. Old and worn, they spiraled downward into shadows that stretched and flickered with every footfall.

She hesitated, then descended.

Her heartbeat climbed with every step. This isn’t right. Why all the secrecy? Why here, where no sunlight dared touch the walls? Her instincts, honed by years of her father's cold teachings, screamed that she was being led somewhere she wouldn't want to be.

Finally, they stopped.

A tall, arched door stood before them, its surface aged and weathered, but etched with glowing runes that pulsed a faint blue. The man opened it without a word, holding it with one hand as he nodded her through.

Valeria stayed still. Her breath caught halfway in her throat. Then a calm confident voice came.

“Valeria.” She turned her head sharply. And there, just beyond the threshold, was a familiar presence.

Professor Cyrene.

Her shoulders eased a fraction. Relief swept through her like warm water over stone. She stepped inside, letting the door close behind her with a weighty thud that made the chamber feel like a sealed vault.

The room was round, stone-walled, and dimly lit by floating orbs of light suspended mid-air. Shadows danced gently across ancient tapestries and shelves stacked with scrolls and relics. At the center sat five individuals in high-backed chairs, forming a loose circle.

Professor Cyrene, ever poised, occupied the seat at the head. Her dark eyes, always too knowing, fixed on Valeria with quiet intensity.

“Please,” she said, gesturing to an empty chair.

Valeria approached slowly, her posture guarded. She sat, her fingers gripping the edge of the seat as her eyes swept over the others.

A werewolf, unmistakable even in human form, his golden irises shimmered faintly beneath the soft light, and a feral energy crackled just beneath his skin. A human woman sat beside him, delicate glasses perched on her nose, a stack of files in her lap.

The aura of intellect around her was sharp enough to cut. A fae leaned back with languid elegance, glowing tattoos swirling up her arms like vines in moonlight. And finally, a wizard—his beard silver and long, his presence steeped in ageless power.

Professor Cyrene broke the silence. “Valeria, do you remember how you reacted when you were paired with Tristan?”

Valeria's jaw tightened. “Of course. I wasn’t thrilled. Is that what this is about? I didn’t sign up to bond with a werewolf.”

The werewolf chuckled low under his breath. The fae sighed and shook her head.

A faint smile tugged at Professor Cyrene’s lips. “And yet, a photo of you kissing him is currently making rounds through the Academy.”

Valeria froze, breath halting in her throat. The room tilted.

“What?” she whispered. Her voice sounded thin, foreign. “You’ve seen it?”

The wizard’s voice was deep and resonant. “It hasn’t left the school. That much we ensured. For now.”

Her thoughts spiraled. If the Council knew… then how long until her father did?

Professor Cyrene leaned in slightly, folding her hands. “Do you know why you’re here?”

Valeria shook her head, the motion slow and uncertain.

“Because you’re important,” Professor Cyrene said, like it was the simplest truth in the world.

Valeria blinked. “Important how?”

“You’re not just a vampire princess,” the fae said, her voice clear and unwavering. “You’re a link. One of the few who can bridge the gaps this generation inherited.”

Valeria stared. “A link?”

Professor Cyrene motioned to those seated. “Each of us represents one of the five races, vampire, werewolf, human, fae, and wizard. This council was formed to fulfill the Academy’s greater purpose.”

Valeria frowned. “Which is?”

“To unify the mystical world. To undo centuries of division.”

Valeria let out a bitter laugh. “You think I can make friends with that werewolf boy?”

The werewolf smirked, teeth flashing. “That werewolf boy is a prince. We’re not so different.”

She pushed back her chair and stood abruptly. “No. I won’t. My father—he’d never allow it.”

The wizard stood, his movement slow but full of gravity. “Your father isn’t here.”
