Chapter Thirty-One
The next day, Bethany typed her letter of resignation, while Aidan listened to Frank Sinatra and read scripts. Since he started staying with her, her tidy condo had taken a turn for the worse. But at the same time, it was so filled with love and laughter she was willing to ignore the mess at every turn.
The doorbell rang, startling them both out of their work. Bethany went to answer it. “It’s another box for you, Aidan. This one is smaller, too small for any script to be in.”
Aidan closed his current script and walked toward her as she stood with her hand extended to give him the box.
“That’s for you, luv.”
Bethany shook her head. “It has your name on it.”
“Open it.”
Bethany opened the brown paper, which was wrapped like a present. Her heart began to race as she saw the small jewelry box inside. A box this small could only indicate one thing. Taking a deep breath, she opened the box. It was a single solitaire diamond, with a Celtic engraving around the ring, giving it a mysterious air. It seemed very old.
“It was my grandma’s ring. I had it cleaned and…well, I never thought I would meet someone who would treasure it. I hope you…”
Bethany jumped into his arms and wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing his face, whispering her love for him over and over again.
Aidan grinned and pushed her away. “Hold on a moment there.”
Bethany froze.
“We’ll do this right.” Aidan got down on one knee and said, “Will you be mine?”
Bethany kneeled down with him. “Yes, will you be mine?”
“I already am.”
Aidan stood and scooped Bethany up into his arms. “Are you almost done with your letter?”
“No.”
Aidan sighed. “Can it wait?”
“Mama didn’t raise no dummy.”
“Glad to hear it.”
“Aidan? I—”
“Hush now, luv, it’s time to make you come again.”
