KAIA’S POV
Something has changed in me since Ronan left this morning. I can feel it in every cell of my body - a new strength, a heightened awareness that wasn't there before.
The mate bond. It's finally complete, and with it has come abilities I never knew I possessed.
I can hear conversations happening three floors below me. I can smell the emotions of pack members - their fear, their excitement, their curiosity. When I move, it's with a speed and grace that feels almost supernatural.
"Is this what being a true Luna feels like?" I whisper to myself.
My wolf purrs with satisfaction inside me. She's stronger now too, more present. Not just a part of me, but truly merged with who I am.
I'm standing by the window, testing my new senses, when Ronan finally returns. I hear his footsteps in the hallway long before he reaches the door.
"Kaia?" he calls as he enters.
"I'm here," I say, turning to face him.
He stops short when he sees me, his eyes widening slightly.
"You look different," he observes.
"I feel different," I admit. "The bond... it's changed me."
"For the better, I hope," he says, stepping closer.
"I think so," I reply. "I can sense things now. Feel the emotions of the pack members. Move faster than I ever could before."
"Those are Luna abilities," he explains. "They come with the complete mate bond."
"Is that why you left this morning? To let me adjust to the changes?"
"Partially," he says carefully. "But also to take care of something."
"What kind of something?"
He studies my face for a moment, as if trying to gauge my reaction to what he's about to say.
"I have a surprise for you," he says finally.
"A surprise?" I ask, suspicious of his tone.
"The pack is gathering in the main hall," he continues. "There's something you need to see."
"Ronan, what did you do?"
"Justice," he says simply. "What I promised you."
My heart starts racing. "What do you mean?"
"Come with me," he says, extending his hand. "And you'll understand."
I take his hand, noting how perfectly it fits with mine now. The mate bond hums between us, stronger than ever.
We walk through the pack house corridors, and I can sense the excitement and nervousness of the pack members we pass. Whatever is happening, everyone knows about it.
"How many people are gathered?" I ask.
"The entire pack," Ronan replies. "This concerns everyone."
"Ronan, you're making me nervous."
"Don't be nervous," he says, squeezing my hand. "This is what you wanted."
We reach the main hall, and I can hear the murmur of dozens of voices inside. When we enter, the room falls silent.
Pack members line the walls, all of them watching us with intense curiosity. In the center of the room is a cleared space, like a makeshift courtroom.
Alpha Raven stands at the far end, his face grave and authoritative.
"What's going on?" I whisper to Ronan.
"You'll see," he replies, guiding me to the front of the crowd.
"Citizens of the Duskmore Pack," Alpha Raven's voice booms across the hall. "We are gathered here today to witness justice."
Justice. The word makes my heart pound even harder.
"Five years ago," Alpha Raven continues, "a terrible crime was committed against an innocent young girl. Kelly Grimm was raped and murdered, and today, we will see that her killer faces the consequences of his actions."
Gasps echo through the room. I feel my legs go weak.
"Bring him out," Alpha Raven commands.
Two guards emerge from a side door, dragging a prisoner between them. The man is in heavy chains, his head hanging low.
But when he lifts his face, I recognize him immediately.
Marcus Duskmore.
I stand frozen, unable to breathe, unable to move, unable to process what I'm seeing.
It's him. The man who destroyed my family. The monster who took Kelly from me.
He looks older than in my imagination. His dark hair is longer and unkempt. But his eyes... His eyes are the same cold, cruel eyes that haunted me in my nightmares for five years.
"Marcus Duskmore," Alpha Raven's voice cuts through my shock. "You stand accused of the rape and murder of Kelly Grimm. How do you plead?"
Marcus lifts his head and looks directly at me. When our eyes meet, he smiles.
"Guilty," he says simply. "I did it. And I enjoyed every second of it."
The crowd erupts in angry shouts, but I can barely hear them over the roaring in my ears.
Alpha Raven raises his hand for silence.
"By the laws of our pack and the laws of nature, you are sentenced to death," he declares. "But first, the victim's family has the right to face you."
He looks at me, his eyes filled with pain and determination.
"He is my son," Alpha Raven says quietly, his voice carrying across the silent room. "But justice must be served."
The words hit me like a physical blow.
Alpha Raven is willing to execute his own son for what he did to Kelly.
The tears come then, streaming down my face in rivers. Five years of grief, anger, and pain pour out of me all at once.
Justice. Finally, after all this time, there will be justice for Kelly.
But it comes at such a cost. For the Duskmore family. For Ronan. For all of us.
I collapse to my knees, sobbing uncontrollably, as the weight of everything crashes over me.
