Vampire's Legacy

The Night of Truth

Ch. 4 / 11 Feb 06, 2026

The club was a whirlwind of lights and sounds, a pulsating haven teeming with life. As Claire and Hugo entered, they were immediately enveloped in a cacophony of laughter, cheers, and booming music. Red and black drapery hung from the ceilings, interspersed with faux cobwebs and gothic chandeliers, casting an eerie yet exhilarating ambiance. The scent of cloves and mulled wine mingled with the sharp tang of sweat and perfumes, creating a sensory overload.

"Claire! Happy Birthday!" shouted Emily from across the room. Emily was a petite woman with a cascade of fiery red curls and an infectious laugh that could lift anyone's spirits. She pulled Claire into a tight hug, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "You have to try the Blood Red Punch!" she exclaimed, pointing to a table laden with drinks and snacks.

"Of course!" Claire shouted back, trying to match Emily's enthusiasm, even as her mind wandered.

Sebastian, a tall guy with dark hair and a penchant for dramatic entrances, approached next, handing Claire a drink. "We were just saying how tonight's theme is so you. Dracula and all. Red velvet, fangs, and dark shadows," he said with a wink. His leather jacket and tight jeans gave him an almost predatory air, fitting the theme a bit too well.

"Yeah, Claire," chimed in Sophie, who was leaning against the bar and adjusting her gothic-inspired choker, "you look like you walked right out of a Bram Stoker novel."

"Thanks, you guys," Claire replied, her cheeks flushing slightly as she took a sip of the punch. It was surprisingly good, a perfect blend of sweetness and spice.

Music thumped louder, the bass sending vibrations through the floor. The dance floor was a chaotic sea of movement. People dressed in dark, foreboding attire swayed and twirled under the strobe lights. Shadow figures with pale faces and crimson-stained lips evoked images of elegant yet deadly vampire courtiers. Couples danced closely, their bodies pressed together, lost in the rhythm. The DJ, dressed as Dracula with a long cape and sharp fangs, spun tracks that seamlessly blended eerie undertones with infectious beats.

As Claire moved through the crowd, taking in the meticulous decorations—the velvet drapes, antique mirrors, and the large coffin prop serving as a photo booth—she felt a strange mix of belonging and dissonance. The night was supposed to be about celebration, yet an unsettling undercurrent had her on edge.

"C'mon, Claire, let's hit the dance floor!" Hugo shouted, already pulling her towards the throng of dancers. For a moment, she allowed herself to get lost in the music, her body moving on instinct. But even as she danced, her eyes kept scanning the crowd, searching for any sign of the mysterious stranger.

Suddenly, someone bumped directly into her.

"Hey, can you watch where you’re going?" Claire snapped, irritation flaring.

“You can see me?” The stranger looked surprised and concerned, his voice cutting through the music like a knife.

“Yeah, that’s kind of the point, but you obviously didn’t see me.”

“You have the Sight.”

“Wait, the what?”

“How can I not know who you are?”

“Has that line seriously ever worked for you? Even once?”

All this time, Hugo was watching Claire, her erratic gestures, her animated conversation seemingly with herself. “How come she is that drunk after just one drink? That’s impossible,” he thought.

Hugo grabbed her hand and shook it. “Claire, who are you talking to?” he asked, his voice laced with concern.

Claire turned towards him. “This guy who I saw in the metro earlier this morning, he bumped into me just a few seconds ago.” But as she pointed towards where the stranger had been, there was nothing but a crowd of people dancing. The guy had disappeared again.

Concerned and confused, Claire tried to ignore the churning anxiety that gnawed at her. She forced herself to focus on the party, grabbing another drink and trying to unwind. When Hugo met a friend who invited him to dance, Claire stayed near the bar, content to watch people. The vibrant energy was almost enough to distract her from her worries.

Almost.

Suddenly, from the corner of her eye, she spotted a familiar forehead in the crowd—the stranger from the tube. Heart racing, she followed him into a private zone, weaving through the throng of dancers and slipping past a heavy velvet curtain that separated the main club from this secluded area.

The sight that greeted her was something out of a nightmare. What she saw was both terrifying and intriguing: vampires—real vampires—locked in a brutal combat against a group of assassins. The air crackled with tension and the metallic scent of blood.

The vampires were pallid, their skin almost luminescent under the dim light, dressed in dark, sumptuous clothing that seemed plucked from gothic fantasies. Their eyes glowed an eerie crimson, and elongated fangs gleamed each time they hissed or snarled at their opponents. Their movements were fluid, almost balletic, yet underlined with lethal precision. They fought with elongated nails that looked like claws, and occasionally, one would blur out of sight, appearing instantaneously in another spot with a vicious strike.

Their adversaries, the assassins, were equally daunting. Clad in tight, dark leather suits that offered both protection and flexibility, their faces were obscured by intricately designed masks that only revealed cold, determined eyes. They wielded an arsenal of weapons—gleaming silver daggers, whirling chains tipped with deadly spikes, and crossbows loaded with what appeared to be enchanted bolts. Their movements were a seamless blend of martial arts and acrobatics, each strike and parry calculated with deadly intent.

Claire's eyes widened as she tried to take it all in. One vampire, a tall figure with raven-black hair and a crimson-lined cloak, leapt into the air, only to be intercepted by an assassin who flipped and kicked upwards, sending the vampire crashing into a wall adorned with faded, ancient-looking tapestries. Only now did she realize that there were three parties in this fight; some of the vampires were paired with the assassins and fought together against the other group of vampires.

The stranger was standing back-to-back with an assassin girl who seemed ruthless. Claire couldn’t believe it was happening to her and started backing off. Just then, the stranger turned his face and their eyes met.
