The Unwanted Mate

Chapter 14

Ch. 14 / 97 Apr 14, 2026

Scarlett took both omegas to the weapon room. "Come in, " She said as she opened the door. "It's been a long time since I last came here. This is the first time I step in here since Keiran took charge as the Alpha, so that makes it almost two years, " She explained while looking around to see if everything was the way she remembers.

The omegas were both awestruck and amused as they examined the collection of knives, guns, and swords. Rain softly touched the shiny blades but quickly retreated his hand because he was afraid of being hurt by them.

"There should be more. I think the pack warriors took them for training," Scarlett muttered as she walked towards the knife section.

The room was pretty huge and the only stuff in there were open shelves that had different kinds of knives and guns.

'And Scarlett said there's more?'

Evelyn swallowed as she thought about it. If there are a lot of weapons that means there are a lot of conflicts among packs. The packs will only store this many weapons if there are frequent conflicts. The Shadow Pack seems to have a lot of enemies.

"Hey, guys…What are you all doing here?" A voice suddenly interrupted the three. They all turned to see Josh staring at them from the doorway with a surprised look.

"Hey, Josh!" Rain chirped happily. "We came to see the weapons," He skipped towards the beta who flicked his forehead, causing the boy to swat his hand away.

"I brought them here because I wanted to teach Evelyn about the weapons," Scarlet replied to the beta who smiled.

"That's a good idea." Josh nodded. "I'll help!" He offered enthusiastically before walking towards them.

"We're starting with the knife section because it's my favorite," Scarlett's excitement was slipping through her voice as she spoke.

She took out a knife from the shelf and held it in front of Evelyn. "This is a bowie knife, very sharp and fancy. I've always liked this," Scarlett explained before giving it to the omega. Evelyn stared at the knife and slowly ran her fingers on the blade, being cautious of not hurting herself. The blade was shiny and it was double-edged at the point.

"Next up is a push dagger," A small blade with a 'T' shaped handle was held in front of the omega.

"Why is the handle like this?" She questioned, looking at the small dagger.

"It's like that so you can grip it in the palm of your hand," Josh took the knife from the omega. "Like this," He showed Evelyn as he put the knife in his palm resulting in the blade protruding from the front of his fist between his fingers.

"That's so cool, put it in my palm too!" Rain showed his hands to the beta, making Josh chuckle. The beta turned to the excited boy and taught him how to grip the knife.

"It's really advantageous if you know how to hide it properly," Scarlett said, taking another set of similar blades from the shelf. "These are some bigger and fancier versions of the push dagger," The former Luna said, showing the omega some push daggers with long blades and eye-catching designs.

"I really like this….can I keep it? " Rain titled his head, expectantly looking at his friend.

Josh laughed and shook his head. "You can't. It's not allowed to keep weapons in the Packhouse. And we're not allowed to hand weapons over to people who are not trained to handle them. There's a chance that you might actually hurt yourself or others." The rejection made the omega pout.

"I'll show you something else," Josh muttered before pulling out a box from the top shelf. "These are ninja throw blades and daggers," He said, excitedly opening the box to reveal star-shaped blades and some black daggers.

"They're beautiful," Evelyn breathed out, looking at the fancy-looking blades and daggers.

"Yes, they are. These are a new addition to the weapons. We're all still trying to master it," He said before he pointed to a door in the corner of the room. "That's our practice room. Do you wanna go there?"

"Yes!" Rain was the most excited one in the group. His love for learning and experiencing new things was evident on his face.

"Come on," Josh smiled before he walked to the room with the box of blades and daggers.

The practice room was fairly big. It seemed like a hall for practicing archery, gun shooting, and knife throwing since there were a lot of targets.

"This is the knife-throwing section," Josh pointed with his elbow before he put the box on top of a small round table on the left side of the hall. "That's the gun practice section," He pointed to the right side.

"But I never heard gunshots from here," Rain tilted his head. "Guns are loud, aren't they?" The omega fought a frown, confused.

"This room is soundproof," Josh said as he took out the blades. Scarlett was lazily walking around the room while Evelyn looked at all the things with amusement shining in her bright green eyes. "No one knows we practice guns. We only started using guns forty years ago and that was because the hunters were using this technology against us. We couldn't fight them only in our wolf forms," The beta said, neatly placing the daggers and blades on the table.

"Hunters….." Evelyn muttered, the word rolling out of her tongue, leaving a bitter taste.

"Who are the hunters?" Rain asked before flopping down on one of the chairs.

"Hunters are humans or sometimes other supernatural beings like us, " Scarlett started, "Humans were the first ones known as hunters. They used to hunt us and other supernatural beings like us because they were afraid of our power but that changed long ago. Now, hunters include humans, vampires, and even werewolves. They're a group of people who kill and attack people when they are offered money for the job." Scarlett heaved a sigh. "Hunter attacks are often surprising which gives us no time to prepare or plan anything. This causes most of the Packs to lose a lot of warriors."

"Why are their attacks surprising? I mean, we have a lot of warriors guarding the borders," Evelyn frowned.

"The guards are not enough, my dear. Hunters….they are mysterious. Nobody can tell when they're going to attack us……. There's only a small chance that we'll know before they come," Scarlett gave her a tight-lipped smile.

"I'm scared," Rain muttered. A frightened look adorning the face of the omega.

Scarlett couldn't help but chuckle at his expression. "You don't have to be scared, my boy. Since our Pack is really strong, nothing bad will happen." She ruffled the omega's hair.

"Luna, come look at this," The beta called Evelyn while he took a kunai knife. Josh gripped the knife and stepped back a little, his eyes focusing on the target for a few seconds before he threw the knife in a swift movement. The knife hit on the first red circle. "Sh*t! Why can't I hit the yellow circle? I've been practicing this for weeks!" He grumbled.

"But that was so cool! Show it again!" Rain clapped from his seat.

Evelyn watched closely as the beta took the knife again and threw it. This time the knife hit the second red circle, making the warrior smile a little. "I think I'm improving,"

"Can-can I try it? " Evelyn asked, a little unsure.

"Yeah, sure," Josh gave her a small smile before taking the knife he threw and giving it to the omega. "Choose the hand you're more experienced in and take a position you're comfortable with," He instructed.

Evelyn nodded and took the knife from the beta. She put her left leg back and took a deep breath, eyes focusing on the target. The omega bit her lips as she moved her wrist and threw the knife.

"Wha-How? That's wow… " Josh stuttered, blown away by what just happened.

Evelyn frowned before she once again focused on the target.

The knife was there in the middle of the target inside the yellow circle.

The omega smiled and turned to face the three shocked faces. "I used to throw stones to get fruits from the trees when I was in the forest," She smiled widely at the three people who were staring at her with their eyes almost wide as the yellow circle she just hit.
