The world outside faded into nothing.
There was only the heat between us, the bond pulling tighter with every heartbeat, until it was impossible to tell where I ended and where he began. Zade’s hands framed my face, his touch reverent and steady, grounding me even as everything inside me spun wildly out of control.
I should have been afraid. I should have pulled away. But when he kissed me again, slow and deep, every fear, every wall I had built around my heart crumbled into dust.
His lips moved against mine with a tenderness that made my chest ache. There was no rush, no demand. Only a slow, unfolding passion that felt like it had been written into our very bones long before we ever met. My fingers tangled in the front of his jacket, clutching him closer, desperate for something solid in the storm of emotions crashing over me.
Zade pulled back just enough to rest his forehead against mine. His breathing was uneven, his heart hammering against my palms where they rested on his chest. His eyes were dark with emotion, wild and beautiful, and for the first time, he didn’t try to hide any of it.
“You can tell me to stop,” he said, his voice raw and shaking with restraint. “And I will.”
The fact that he meant it—that he would walk away if I asked him to—only made my heart break a little more. I didn’t want him to stop. I wanted him closer. I wanted to feel everything he was offering, even if it terrified me.
Instead of answering, I pulled him back down to me, pressing my lips to his with a desperation I couldn’t put into words.
The kiss deepened, growing hotter, more intense. His hands slid down my sides, moving slowly, carefully, as if memorizing every inch of me. Every brush of his fingers against my skin set me on fire. Every sound he made—the low, broken groan at the back of his throat when I arched into him—fed the flame roaring inside me.
Clothes were pushed aside with shaking hands and whispered promises. Every touch, every kiss, every shuddering breath was a silent vow between us. This wasn’t about lust. It wasn’t about need. It was about something deeper, something that felt sacred.
When he finally moved over me, his body fitting against mine like we were two halves of the same whole, the world shattered into brilliant, blinding pieces. I clung to him, my nails digging into his back, my mouth gasping his name against his skin.
The connection between us exploded, a rush of pure, raw emotion that left me trembling in his arms.
Zade held me tightly, his forehead pressed to the side of my neck, his breathing ragged and broken. He whispered my name like a prayer, like a promise, and every time he said it, it carved deeper into my soul.
When it was over, we didn’t move.
We lay tangled together in the quiet aftermath, our bodies slick with sweat, our hearts still racing from the force of what we had unleashed. I rested my head against his chest, listening to the steady thrum of his heartbeat, feeling the way it matched the frantic rhythm of my own.
His fingers traced lazy, soothing patterns across my bare back, and for a while, we said nothing. Words felt too small, too fragile, to hold everything that had just passed between us.
I had never felt so exposed in my life.
And yet, lying there in his arms, I didn’t feel vulnerable. I felt safe. Protected. Wanted.
Loved.
The realization hit me so suddenly that it stole the air from my lungs. I tensed, my fingers curling into the sheets as if trying to anchor myself.
I was falling in love with him.
Maybe I had been falling for him from the moment he looked at me in that dusty gas station, his eyes dark and full of secrets he hadn’t dared to share. Maybe it was always inevitable, written into the bond we shared long before we even met.
The thought terrified me.
Love meant surrender. Love meant giving someone the power to destroy you. I had spent so long building walls to keep people out, to keep myself safe. Letting Zade in meant risking everything.
But as I lay there, feeling his arms tighten around me as if sensing my sudden fear, I knew deep down that it was already too late.
I was his.
And he was mine.
