[POV: Dayana]
I entered the clearing of the Nightmaw pack with carefully measured steps, keeping my chin high and my shoulders squared. Alpha Damian stood near the tree line, his powerful form leaning casually against an old oak tree, eyes coldly assessing me from head to toe.
Despite the casual stance, his dominant Alpha aura filled the space between us, silently challenging me.
“Alpha Damian,” I greeted him smoothly, inclining my head in respect—but not too low. I couldn’t afford to show weakness.
“Dayana,” he replied coolly, a thin smirk touching his lips.
He pushed away from the tree, approaching me with a slow, deliberate stride.
“I admit, I was surprised when I received your message. It’s been a long time since the Midnight Crest pack showed any spine, let alone ambition.”
I clenched my teeth at the jab, forcing a composed smile instead.
“Times have changed,” I replied calmly. “So have our ambitions.”
He stopped just a few feet away, his piercing eyes sharp and scrutinizing. He was a tall man, with raven-black hair and harsh features that spoke of countless battles and victories.
I understood why he’d been Hayden’s rival for years. Power radiated from him, tangible and dangerous.
“Indeed, times do change,” Damian drawled, folding his muscular arms across his chest. “Which brings us to our common problem—Hayden and his Crimson Fang pack.”
At the mention of Hayden’s name, I barely managed to keep my expression neutral. Hatred surged within me, bright and hot, but I masked it effortlessly.
“Precisely,” I said firmly. “Hayden has become a threat we can no longer ignore. His power grows daily, and his ambitions endanger everyone around him—including my pack and yours.”
Damian tilted his head slightly, watching me closely.
“I’m familiar with my own reasons for hating Hayden, but I wonder about yours. Midnight Crest has always preferred to stay hidden in the shadows. Why risk everything to destroy Hayden now?”
I hesitated for just a fraction of a second, quickly formulating a lie that would appeal to Damian’s interests.
Revealing my true reasons—my personal vendetta against Aria, and my thirst for her destruction—would risk losing Damian’s trust and the potential of this powerful alliance.
No, he needed a story he could respect, a motivation he could understand.
“My reasons are simple,” I said coolly, meeting his gaze steadily. “Hayden’s pack has expanded too far, too quickly. His newfound Luna, Aria, has given him even greater influence. If we allow them to continue unchecked, they’ll become unstoppable, and it’s only a matter of time before their territory swallows ours. I won’t sit idle and watch my pack fall victim to their greed.”
Damian studied me intently, searching my eyes for deceit. I held his gaze, allowing no trace of hesitation or fear to slip through.
After a long pause, he nodded slowly, apparently satisfied.
“Good enough,” he said finally, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “Though I sense there’s more personal resentment beneath your words than you’re letting on.”
I smiled lightly, neither confirming nor denying.
“We all have our personal grudges, Alpha Damian. What matters is that our interests align. Together, we can bring Hayden and his pack to their knees.”
Damian’s eyes flashed with approval. “That’s exactly what I hoped to hear.”
He turned and began walking slowly around the clearing, gesturing for me to follow. I fell into step beside him, matching his confident pace.
“Tell me, Dayana,” Damian asked casually, “what exactly do you propose?”
“An alliance,” I said firmly, not missing a beat. “Midnight Crest is smaller than both Crimson Fang and your Nightmaw pack, I admit. But we have strengths of our own—abilities that complement your numbers and brute force. Combining our resources and power will ensure victory.”
Damian raised a skeptical eyebrow, glancing sideways at me. “And what, precisely, do you expect from me?”
“Your warriors and support. My pack alone doesn’t have the strength to break through Crimson Fang’s defenses. But with your numbers behind us, we can overpower them. In return, when Hayden and Aria fall, their territory will belong to us both. You’ll take the lion’s share, naturally. Your warriors deserve their reward. But Midnight Crest will take a smaller portion—enough to strengthen our ranks, rebuild, and fortify ourselves.”
Damian paused, turning to face me fully, his eyes calculating.
“An interesting proposition, Dayana. But tell me—what about after our victory? You don’t seem the type to settle quietly into second place. What assurances do I have that you won’t try to turn against me?”
I held his stare, unfazed.
“Turning on you after a shared victory would be foolish, Alpha Damian. My pack would never survive such a betrayal, and neither would I. No, my ambitions don’t extend to your territory or your pack. All I want is to see Hayden and Aria fall—to break their hold over us, permanently. Beyond that, Midnight Crest has no further quarrel with the Nightmaw pack.”
He considered my words carefully, a faint smile finally appearing on his face. “I appreciate your honesty, even if it’s premeditated.”
I allowed myself a small, knowing smile in return. “We both know honesty between allies goes only so far. But trust in mutual benefit is something we can build on.”
Damian chuckled lightly, genuinely amused.
“Agreed. Then let’s discuss strategy. Crimson Fang’s territory is formidable. Their warriors are loyal, disciplined, and skilled.”
“True,” I conceded. “But they have weaknesses. Hayden is fiercely protective of Aria. Targeting her would distract him, break his focus.”
Damian raised an eyebrow. “And you’re comfortable putting yourself on the frontline of that particular task?”
I smiled coldly, my heart burning with hidden excitement. “Nothing would bring me greater pleasure.”
He nodded approvingly. “Very well. We’ll strike together, dividing their forces. My warriors will lead the frontal assault to overwhelm Hayden’s defenses. Meanwhile, you and your pack will exploit any distraction—particularly his Luna Aria.”
“Agreed,” I confirmed swiftly.
Damian extended his hand, his eyes sharp with anticipation. “Then we have an alliance.”
I took his hand firmly, feeling the surge of satisfaction through my veins.
“An alliance,” I echoed.
As we parted ways moments later, I couldn’t suppress the triumphant smile spreading across my face.
Soon enough, Aria and Hayden’s world would burn to the ground, and I would savor every glorious second of their downfall.
