"Eve, please c–calm down. Your babies must not be far," Elena tried to coax her as Eve sat on the bed the next morning, bawling her eyes out.
Ethan had ransacked the whole hospital last night. They'd even alerted the authorities, and all the staff that worked in the nursery were investigated, but... Her babies were nowhere to be found, they were still missing. And the surveillance cameras caught nothing. Everywhere was dark.
"Eve." The Stewardess rubbed her shoulders. "Please don't cry, it can affect your health. Even if that person is cruel enough to kidnap the babies, I don't think they'll have the heart to hurt them."
Hurt her babies? Eve cried harder. "That is what I'm scared of, Elena. What if they harm my babies!?"
"Shhhh, it's okay." Elena hugged her and patted her back. "Don't cry, Eve. Let's keep praying. Nothing will happen to the babies, the Young Master is out there with the authorities searching for them."
"M–My babies." Eve's lips trembled and she sniffed rapidly. "My poor Mimi, Eric, Evan. Who is that cruel person, Elena?"
"The authorities will find them, stop crying."
The door opened and Ethan's grandfather came in with Matt. The old man seemed to have aged a decade more in one night. Unable to say anything, he limped with his cane and sank on the couch.
"Sister-in-law, this Young Master has failed you." Matt approached her and hung his head. "I promised to protect the babies and this happened. If I don't bring them back before tomorrow, I'll forever hide my face and become a monk."
He clenched his fists then turned around and strode out of the ward.
Eve's eyes lingered on the door and she sniffed rapidly. "My heart wants to rip out, Elena. I just want my babies."
"They'll come back," Elena reassured her and sighed heavily.
"My babies must be hungry. I can feel it."
"I don't think they'll have the heart to let them starve, Eve. Please have faith."
Eve shook her head, sobbing silently. A few moments later, the room vibrated with the ringing sound of her phone and she picked it up and answered it.
"Did you find my babies!?" She asked. There was silence from the other end and she frowned then glanced at the strange number.
"H–Hello..."
"If you want your babies, there's one thing you must do, Eve." The voice that came from the other end made her heart stop beating for a second.
Eve covered her mouth and gasped. "M–Mr. Hudson, please I beg of you. Don't do anything to my babies."
At that moment, Ethan entered the room with a haggard look. Matt was also behind him. And their expressions told her that the search was futile.
"M–Mr. Hudson..." Eve trailed off. "Please say whatever you want. D–Don't harm my babies."
Ethan's expression changed as well as everyone else's in the room. And Eve put the phone on speaker.
"What I want is simple. Tell your husband to hand over the family's fortune to me, and your babies will be safe."
"Grandson, don't do this to my family." The old man looked up. "Please let go of every bad intention."
"Who are you to tell me that, Old Man." Wade raised his voice. "I was merciful enough to spare your life. Be grateful that I didn't intend to kill you, otherwise, you'll be history as we're speaking."
"If you didn't intend to kill Grandpa, what was your goal!" Matt yelled. "You should be ashamed for trying to use harmless babies to get what you want. You are stooping too low, Madman."
"Third Young Master, is that you?" Wade chuckled. "Of course, I'll answer your question. My goal was to lure your Sister-in-law back from that island. You should learn from me, Little Brother. Am I not smart?"
"Bah! You're so rotten even devils will run from you. This Young Master doesn't look up to maniacs!"
"Wade, please don't harm my babies! Bring them back, please!"
"I'll be waiting outside the ward, Eve. I give your husband only ten minutes to finish the handover."
"Ah!– wait!" The man hung up and Eve struggled to breathe properly. "He– He said he's outside the ward, Ethan."
Ethan had already brought out his phone, and after making a phone call, he left the room with everyone.
Eve jumped from the bed and rushed after them with Elena. And true to the man's words, he stood outside the ward in the hallway, leaning against the door of one of the VIP rooms.
"Where are my babies!?" Ethan was about to charge at him and Wade held up his hand.
"You wouldn't want to try anything funny." He shook his head, smiling. "Remember your babies are with me, Mr. Anderson. And I get to decide their fate."
"What exactly do you want."
"Hand over the company to me and every fortune this family has ever gathered," Wade replied. "I'm not as heartless as this old man to kick you to the curbs. You can all go and live in that Villa or that stupid island. Apart from that, everything else belongs to me."
"Leave him to me, Big Bro. This Young Master has made a promise to Sister-in-law and he won't go back on his words!" Matt rushed forward and grabbed the man's collar. "Mr. Hudson or whatever you're called, bring out those babies right now before I break your head."
"Unhand me, you tiny rat." Wade only used one hand to push him aside and Matt landed on the floor. "This is not how you treat your older brother."
"You're not my brother! Grandpa doesn't even know you! You're just trying to steal away what doesn't belong to you."
"I don't have your time." Wade gave him a careless look then stared at Ethan. "I am waiting, Mr. Anderson. Bring out your phone and do the handover. In the next ten minutes, I can't guarantee you your babies' wellbeing."
"You want me to hand over the company to you?" Ethan glared at him. "You can keep dreaming._
