The Disgraced Obedient Wife of House Marell

CHAPTER 25

Ch. 25 / 30 Jun 19, 2025

Lady Isolde didn’t fight when they came for her. She stood with her hands folded, chin high, like she was above all of it. But the mask cracked when she saw the cameras—when she realized the world was watching. The woman who once orchestrated a state within a state was now flanked by guards, her legacy reduced to headlines.

Dorian was waiting outside the chambers, his tie askew, fury barely concealed.

“This is a setup,” he snapped, pacing. “You’ve fabricated all of this.”

I didn’t flinch. “We have audio. Footage. Testimonies from your mercenaries.”

He shook his head. “She’s being framed to destroy me.”

“You destroyed yourself the moment you stood beside her,” I said. “You knew what she was capable of.”

“She’s my mother,” he said, almost pleading.

“She was Velmera’s threat,” I replied.

Later, I walked into the press room, facing the nation with my shoulders squared. The screen behind me flickered to life—first, the footage of the summit lockdown, then voice recordings, transaction records, and intercepted messages signed with her seal. Every lie, exposed in digital light.

“This is what they planned,” I said. “These were not isolated actions. This was strategy, cruelty, and silence passed as diplomacy.”

A gasp rippled when one voice recording played—Isolde’s, crisp and unmistakable: “Make her death look clean. Blame the unrest.” The press surged forward.

Someone shouted, “Is this verified?”

Another, “Why now?”

I didn’t waver. “Because Velmera deserves its eyes open.”

By morning, global outlets had picked it up. Allies turned silent. Former supporters pulled statements. Every house that once feared the Marell name now stepped carefully away from its ruins. In one night, power shifted, and no one could stop it.

I stood before the council chambers later that evening, flanked by Jasper and a dozen silent aides. The room held its breath.

“I won’t inherit Velmera under fear,” I said, voice echoing against the ancient stone. “Not through blood, or bribes, or threats. If I’m to lead, it will be through truth.”

The council didn’t argue.

As the council tallied their votes, I could feel Dorian’s eyes on me from the edge of the chamber. He wasn’t speaking anymore, but his silence was loud—accusatory, desperate, wounded. When the vote was read aloud, his jaw tightened. He took a step toward me as the room began to clear.

“She raised me to survive,” he said quietly, stopping just a few feet away. “That’s all she ever wanted.”

I didn’t turn. “She raised you to silence people like me. And you let her.”

He stepped closer, voice cracking now. “You don’t understand what it’s like—to lose everything in one hour. The power, the legacy, the future you were raised for—gone.”

“I do,” I said, turning to face him fully. “Because you taught me how that feels.”

He flinched like I’d slapped him.

“I didn’t know she’d go that far,” he said. “I thought—God, Elyse, I thought she’d threaten, not kill.”

“You knew what she was capable of,” I said. “You just didn’t think she’d use it on someone close to you.”

He shook his head, frustrated. “She told me it would blow over. That you'd be controlled, like all the rest. I didn’t think—” He paused, swallowed. “I didn’t think you’d rise from it.”

“No,” I said. “You didn’t.”

There was a pause, heavy and uneven.

“I never wanted to hurt you,” he murmured.

“But you did.”

“I thought I was protecting something—our name, our family, something bigger than both of us—”

I cut him off. “You protected yourself. That’s all it ever was.”

He looked away. His hands twitched at his sides like he didn’t know what to do with them.

“Tell me what to say,” he whispered. “Tell me how to make it right.”

“You can’t.”

He opened his mouth again, but I raised my hand—not to stop him, but to finish it.

“And now you get to live in the silence she left behind.”

I walked out before he could answer, the echo of the council’s verdict still hanging in the air like a gavel that had never stopped falling.

Dorian Marell was officially banned from all political succession.
