Sophie Evans
I stared at him, waiting, no, hoping, that any second now, he would burst into laughter and tell me this was all some twisted joke.
But he didn’t. His cold blue eyes held no amusement, only deadly seriousness.
“Three months,” he repeated, as if what he was asking was the most normal thing in the world. “I want you for three months.”
A bitter laugh built in my throat, but I swallowed it down. Instead, I shook my head, unable to believe what I was hearing.
Three months?
I wanted to scream at him. Call him insane. Spit in his face and tell him I would rather sell my soul to the devil than agree to whatever sick game he was playing.
But he was the devil. The devil’s incarnate. He was no longer the Liam Devereux, the boy I fell in love with.
I just stood there, frozen in place, staring at him like he had completely lost his mind.
“Are you in?” he pressed, his tone impatient. “I’ll make it six hundred thousand dollars, Sophie. The moment you agree and we sign the contract, it’s yours.”
Six hundred thousand dollars. My heart pounded.
After paying for Lucas’s transplant, I’d still have over a hundred thousand left. Enough to cover his hospital bills. Enough to get us out of this mess.
It was more money than I had ever dreamed of.
And all I had to do was… what? Be his for three months?
I felt sick.
Even considering it made me feel like I had lost the last shred of dignity I had left. But what choice did I have? My brother’s life depended on this. I bit my lip so hard I tasted blood.
“Three months?” My voice was barely above a whisper.
Liam nodded. “You’ll attend events with me. You’ll be the perfect woman by my side.”
I shook my head violently. “No, no, no. This is ridiculous. You think you can buy me?”
He took a step closer, his voice dropping into something dark and dangerous. “I think you don’t have a choice.”
The audacity of his words sent a wave of anger crashing over me. My hands curled into fists at my sides. “You’re disgusting,” I spat.
He smirked. “Maybe. But at least I’m honest about what I want.”
I turned away, my mind racing. I could walk away right now. I could find another way. But deep down, I knew there was no other way. I had no one else to turn to. And there’s no miracle waiting for me around the corner.
Lucas needed me.
And the sickest part of it all? Some twisted, buried part of me wasn’t just furious at Liam. It was terrified that a part of me still wanted him.
I took a slow, shuddering breath, then turned back to face him.
“Fine,” I said, forcing my voice to remain steady. “Three months. Nothing more.”
Liam’s smirk widened, satisfaction gleaming in his eyes.
“Good, we have deal then.”
