Chapter 107: Wishing To Die But Unable
His cold eyes bore into Winky, he barked: "You want to die after your lady, then die! There's no one stopping you anymore! Go ahead and die! If you don't want to die, then get out of my sight!"
"No... I didn't intend to..." Winky clutched his head, his voice trembling: "I had no idea she would just stand there and not evade..." His move wasn't swift, Mimi could've easily dodged if she had been alert..
The medical team arrived swiftly, and Mimi was immediately taken into surgery.
Her wound was deep.
Not only did Mimi not evade Winky's blade, but she also leaned forward, allowing the blade to pierce deeper into her chest.
"Fortunately, the wound isn't in a critical location. Her life isn't in danger, don't worry." Andrey remarked, although he suspected Winky had intentionally missed vital organs. Otherwise, a renowned assassin like him surely would've known where to strike to take a life.
The surgery lasted nearly two hours.
Flora sat outside the operation room until the doctors came out.
She rushed over, inquiring: "Doctor, how is she doing?"
"She's out of danger. She's already awake." The doctor replied: "But she's requested to rest alone, she doesn't want to be disturbed."
The patient's wishes were paramount.
Naturally, everyone respected Mimi's request not to be bothered.
The girl was safe; those outside finally heaved a sigh of relief.
Flora glanced around at everyone, then suddenly declared: "We must help Mimi, we must help her win that scoundrel over!"
She may not have liked Winky much, but what she wanted more was for Mimi to be happy.
The others nodded in agreement.
After several hours oscillating between various anxieties, she returned to Matthew's sickroom.
Her face pallid, the moment she stepped through the door, Matthew noticed her disturbed state.
His brows furrowed: "What's wrong? Why do you look so pale?"
"Is it that obvious?" Flora touched her face subconsciously.
She pulled a chair over to the bedside, hesitated for a moment, then finally said: "Winky wanted to die with Selena.
Mimi tried to stop him.
In his agitation, he wounded Mimi... The doctor just told me... Mimi won't make it..."
"Damn it! Where is that bastard?" Matthew roared.
He treated Mimi like a child of his own.
Naturally, he wouldn't let the one who hurt her go unpunished.
Even if the wound was just a scratch, losing just a little blood, even if he was left with only a breath, he must avenge his family.
Flora followed him, her head slightly lowered, her lips pursed, silently apologizing to him.
If she hadn't deceived him, she wouldn't have been able to convince Winky.
It was the best plan she could come up with.
She just hoped that after learning the truth, Matthew wouldn't blame her.
Winky sat alone in a hidden corner, staring at the fiery sunset.
His face didn't reveal any emotion, no one could guess what he was thinking.
"Damn you, you piece of trash!" Matthew dashed over, grabbing his collar and lifting him up.
Before Winky could react, Matthew threw a punch.
Then, he landed several more blows.
Winky, on the other hand, was like a lifeless body, allowing himself to be beaten.
Flora bit her lip, forcing back tears: "Winky, I don't care about your life or death... but because of you, Mimi is dead... I won't forgive you..."
"What did you say?" Winky stiffened, his eyes filled with bloody threads as he looked up at Flora: "What did you say? How... How could Mimi die... I purposefully..." He had purposefully missed Mimi's vital points, how could she be dead?
But Flora just shook her head: "They just took her out of the operating room. If you want to see her one last time, you better hurry."
Winky scrambled up, freeing himself from Matthew's grip, and sprinted towards the white building in the distance.
Matthew intended to follow him, but Flora stopped him: "Don't follow him... Don't worry, I only lied to trick him." She explained to Matthew: "The surgery was successful. Mimi has woken up.
She's resting in her room."
Matthew seemed stunned, he asked her: "So she's fine?"
"Yes." Flora nodded in affirmation: "I only wanted to help her by doing this.
I'm sorry for lying to you, but if I hadn't lied to you, I don't think I could have fooled Winky."
"You're quite the actress.
I even thought it was real." Matthew sighed in relief.
Flora smiled: "I wanted to make Winky understand that what he got was the genuine love of a girl, which is the most valuable thing in the world... so he doesn't take it lightly..."
Knowing the truth, the two slowly made their way to Mimi's ward.
Upon arriving, they found Winky on his knees, his head in his hands, sobbing loudly.
As he wept, he muttered apologies, but everyone around him pretended he didn't exist.
Flora approached him and sighed: "Actually, Mimi loves you very much... If she didn't, she probably wouldn't have risked her life to go into the collapsing tomb to pull you out.
After getting out, you were unconscious, and she almost lost her life.
Her body was covered in wounds, her flesh and blood mixed up, even today, she hasn't fully recovered." Her eyes were full of tears: "You've experienced the pain of love, so why are you so cruel as to push a girl into the same despair you've been through?"
"I... I..." Faced with Flora's questioning, Winky didn't know what to say, he could only shake his head: "I didn't want to hurt her.
With her skills, she could easily dodge my knife... I just... I just didn't feel I was deserving of her love..." He always thought he didn't deserve love, which is why he clung to his hopeless love for Selena, willing to live or die for her.
"I always hurt her, how could I be worthy of her love? She's so good... She deserves someone hundreds, thousands of times better than me.
I feel at peace by her side, but always guilty, thinking that I've ruined her life..."
The door of the ward suddenly opened.
Mimi, in an ill-fitting patient gown, looking very frail, frowned at the man babbling outside the door: "You idiot!"
She ran over and hugged Winky tightly: "You've said that now, you can't escape from me in this lifetime!" She would never let go.
Clearly, they both have feelings for each other, how could they let go?
"Mimi... You're not dead?"
"You idiot, you still want me to die?" Mimi glared at him: "You're still alive, how can I die!"
The young girl was quite clever, already detecting the plaintive sobs of Winky just beyond the door, yet she chose to temporarily suspend her movements, curious as to the happenings outside.
She never anticipated the collective cunning of the others, deceiving Winky into believing she was no longer there, thus coaxing out his deepest, hidden confessions.
Under these circumstances, it was only appropriate for her to choose the most suitable moment to reveal herself.
Witnessing the tight embrace that the two individuals refused to break, the bystanders released a collective, relieved sigh, unscheduled yet harmoniously synchronized.
At long last, one matter was resolved.
Both the mansion and the hospital on Falcon Island were prepared.
Flora deeply suspected that Matthew had been planning this for a while, hence the early preparations.
When he discussed the plans with her, she was taken aback, but also eagerly anticipated the family's life on the island: "Is everything ready? Can we go check it out in advance?"
"We certainly can." Matthew nodded: "The plane is also prepared.
We can depart whenever we wish." Matthew's plan was for the family of three to go first, and Paul would follow once his health improved, under Andrey's approval.
Flora and Matthew began packing.
This journey consisted of only two adults, along with Charlie and the little girl whose mother they had yet to find, whom they encountered during Daniel's arrest.
The island was beautiful, teeming with raw, untamed nature, and the inhabitants were genuinely kind and rustic.
Stepping off the plane, Flora was overwhelmed by the lush greenery, the sky, and the sea.
On their way to the mansion, the two adults and the children met several islanders.
They were all greeted with warm, welcoming smiles.
"Our mansion is just ahead." Matthew pointed out a brown-red roof peeking through the high trees.
Flora and the children nodded in unison, their hearts filled with boundless anticipation for their new life.
Leaving behind the hustle and bustle, the competition, this was the life Flora had fervently dreamed of.
Just then, a cold, sharp female voice echoed: "Matthew!" A beautiful girl with fiery red hair, wearing breezy clothing, rushed over from nowhere, tightly embracing Matthew: "You've finally returned! I've missed you so much! Come to my house for dinner later! I've learned to cook some new dishes that are really delicious, I promise you'll love them!"
Flora was stunned at the sight.
She couldn't comprehend what was happening.
Why was there a beautiful girl being so intimate with Matthew right in front of her?
The girl's slender, fair arms hung over Matthew's neck, her rosy lips planted a "mwah" on his cheek.
Her flirty eyes glanced over at Flora behind Matthew, half-mocking and half-threatening.
Flora gave a thin smile, her bright brown eyes locked onto Matthew.
Unaware of her gaze, he just smiled and said to the girl: "You're hugging so tight, how can anyone breathe?
Let me go first."
He reached for Flora's hand and grinned: "Didn't you just invite me over for dinner? Let's go!"
A feeling of discomfort clung to Flora from that moment till they arrived at the girl's house.
Being unfamiliar with the place and its people, naturally, she had to go with Matthew.
But he didn't bother explaining anything to her, just arbitrarily deciding the family's schedule.
Every now and then, the girl would throw inquisitive glances at Flora, further worsening her mood.
