The Beta’s Ugly Daughter

Chapter 29

Ch. 29 / 30 May 02, 2026

Wyatt’s POV

The moment I declared Gail as my mate in front of the entire pack, I felt nothing but absolute certainty flowing through my veins like liquid fire.

I didn't care about the shocked gasps, the whispered conversations, the way the pack elders were staring at me like I'd lost my mind. I didn't care about the political ramifications or the alliance that had just crumbled or the chaos I'd undoubtedly created by rejecting centuries of carefully laid plans. All I cared about was the woman in my arms, whose true form was finally visible to everyone who'd been too blind to see her worth.

When her appearance shifted after our kiss, when the magic dissolved her cursed features and revealed the stunning woman I'd held in moonlit groves, the collective gasp from the guests didn't shake my decision for even a second. To me, she had always been the same person, brilliant, kind, strong enough to survive eighteen years of cruelty and still find the capacity to love.

The mate bond sealed between us with a rush of power that made my knees weak. Every cell in my body sang with recognition, with the rightness of finally claiming what had always been mine. The ache that had lived in my chest for months dissolved, replaced by a wholeness I hadn't known I was missing.

"Come," I said, taking her transformed hand in mine. "Let's get out of here."

Without hesitation, we both let our wolves take over. The shift happened faster than it ever had before, fueled by adrenaline and joy and the wild freedom of finally being ourselves. My dark wolf appeared just as her magnificent red one emerged, both of us now fully revealed, fully accepted, fully mated.

Our howls rang out in perfect harmony, a sound of triumph that echoed through the ceremonial hall. Around us, other pack members began to shift and howl in response, not in protest, but in recognition of something primal and right. The ancient call of the mate bond, witnessed and acknowledged by the community that would now have to accept what we'd chosen.

Together, we sprinted out of the ceremonial hall, away from the shocked faces and whispered conversations, away from the weight of expectation and duty that had kept us apart for so long. We ran fast and wild, side by side under the glowing blood moon, our wolves moving like flames through the dark forest.

Every stride felt like liberation, every breath tasted like freedom. For the first time in my life, I was exactly where I was supposed to be, with exactly who I was supposed to be with. We didn't slow until we reached the Whispering Grove, our grove, the place where I'd first encountered her true form, where we'd shared conversations and stolen kisses and slowly fallen in love without fully understanding what was happening.

Under the familiar canopy of ancient trees, we shifted back to human form, both of us breathing hard from our wild run through the forest. The transformation left us naked and laughing, the tension that had lived between us for weeks finally released in a rush of pure joy.

"We just caused the scandal of the century," Gail said, her voice breathless and radiant as she looked at me with eyes that sparkled like captured starlight.

"Good," I replied, pulling her close. "It was about time someone shook things up around here."

She laughed again, the sound musical and free, and I realized I'd never heard her laugh like that before. Without reservation, without checking to see who might be watching, without the careful control she'd always maintained.

"Wyatt," she said, her expression growing serious, "there are things you need to know. About what I am, about why I couldn't tell you before."

"Then tell me," I said simply. "Tell me everything."

She took a shaky breath, her eyes searching my face as if looking for signs that I might flee. "It started before I was even born. My mother... she was so vain, so desperate to ensure her child would be beautiful enough to reflect well on her reputation."

"What did she do?"

"She went to a witch." Gail's voice was barely above a whisper. "She begged for a spell to make sure her baby would be as beautiful as she was."

I felt my jaw tighten. "And?"

"The witch gave her exactly what she deserved. A daughter whose appearance would bring her shame instead of pride." Tears spilled down her cheeks. "I was cursed before I took my first breath. Every flaw enhanced, every imperfection magnified. My appearance was designed to inspire revulsion rather than love."

"Gail-"

"The blood moons were the only time I could access my true form," she continued, the words tumbling out like she was afraid she'd lose her courage. "The beauty and strength that should have been mine from birth. But there was a condition for breaking the curse."

"What condition?"

"Someone had to fall in love with me while I appeared in my cursed state." She laughed bitterly. "The witch made sure that would be nearly impossible. She built magical repulsion into my very appearance. Every time someone looked at me, they had to fight against supernatural compulsion just to see me as a person."

I cupped her face in my hands, forcing her to meet my eyes. "You mean every conversation we had, every time I looked at you..."

"You were fighting against magic designed to make me repulsive," she finished. "That's why I could never believe you might actually care for me. How could anyone love someone they could barely stand to look at?"

"But I did look at you," I said fiercely. "I saw you, Gail. The real you. The magic couldn't hide that."

"You're not angry?" she whispered. "That I lied to you? That I let you think Red and I were different people?"

"How could I be angry when you've been carrying this alone for eighteen years?”

I listened without interruption, my arms tightening around her as she spoke. Every word made me want to track down everyone who'd ever hurt her and show them exactly what it meant to cross an Alpha's mate. But more than that, every word made me marvel at her strength.

"The worst part," she finished, her voice barely above a whisper, "was knowing that you could only want me when I looked like this. When I was Red. I thought you could never love the real me."

"You were wrong," I said, cupping her face in my hands. "You were so wrong, Gail. I started falling for you weeks ago, in the archives, when you were exactly yourself. The curse just made it harder to see what was right in front of me."

Tears spilled down her cheeks. "You're not angry? That I lied to you? That I let you think Red and I were different people?"

"Angry? God, no." I wiped away her tears with my thumbs. "I'm in awe. You lived through all of that, the abuse, the loneliness, the curse, and you still showed up every day. You still found ways to be kind, to be brilliant, to make me laugh with your terrible historical jokes. You loved me even while believing I never could love you back. How could I be anything but amazed by you?"

She kissed me then, fierce and desperate and full of eighteen years of pent-up longing. Under the crimson moonlight, we came together with nothing between us, no lies, no disguises, no secrets. Just truth, pure and blazing and perfect.

We didn’t ease into it, we collided. All the tension we’d swallowed for too long snapped the second our mouths met. There was nothing slow about it. We grabbed, pulled, tore at each other like we were starving.

“Fuck,” I growled as her nails scraped down my back, her mouth opening on a gasp. “You’ve been waiting for this.”

She moaned, breathless. “I can’t- I need you-”

“Then take it,” I said, grabbing her thighs and spreading them wide. She was soaked, slick and shaking, hips already rising for me. I pushed into her in one hard thrust, deep and fast.

Her scream cracked open the night. “Oh- God- yes-” She clung to me, legs locking around my waist, grinding up to meet every thrust. Our rhythm wasn’t soft. It was frantic, filthy, necessary.

“More,” she panted, head falling back. “Don’t stop- harder- please-”

I slammed into her again and again, cock dragging through her tight heat. The sound of it, wet, raw, and mixed with her cries. She couldn’t keep quiet, every stroke made her louder.

“Right there,” she gasped. “Right fucking there-”

I gritted my teeth, grabbing her ass and lifting her into each thrust. “Say it again.”

She moaned so loud it barely sounded like a word. “Yours- I’m yours- fuck- I’m only yours-”

“That’s right,” I snarled, leaning down to bite her throat. “This pussy’s mine. Say it.”

“It’s yours,” she cried out. “Yours- yours- yours-” Her nails sank into my shoulders. She was shaking, teetering. Her moans got higher, sharper, messier.

“I’m gonna-” she gasped. “I’m- oh fuck, I’m coming-”

“Come for me,” I growled, slamming into her harder, grinding against her clit. “Come on, baby. Let me feel it.”

She screamed, back arching, walls clenching tight around me as she shattered. Her whole body shook, and her voice broke on my name. “Wyatt- !”

The way she pulsed around my cock pushed me straight over the edge. I groaned, deep and low, hips grinding hard as I spilled inside her. “Shit- fuck- take it-” Even after the last thrust, I didn’t pull out. I stayed there, buried deep, both of us breathing like we’d just survived a war. Her fingers were still locked in my hair, my hands held her like I’d never let go.

We didn’t speak right away. We just stayed like that, locked together, her nails in my skin, my cock still buried inside her. Breathing hard. Foreheads pressed close. Nothing in the way anymore, no lies and games. We just didn’t make love, we claimed.

Later, we lay tangled in each other's arms beneath the blood moon, our bodies warm against the forest floor, our hearts finally at peace. The mate bond hummed between us, settled and strong, a constant reminder that we were no longer alone.

"What happens now?" Gail asked, her head pillowed on my chest, her fingers tracing lazy patterns on my skin.

"Now we face whatever comes together," I said, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "The pack will adjust. They'll have to. And if they don't..." I shrugged. "Then we'll find somewhere that will accept us."

"You'd leave your pack for me?"

"I'd leave everything for you," I said without hesitation. "But I don't think it will come to that. You're their Luna now, whether they expected it or not. They'll learn to love you the way I do."

She was quiet for a moment, then said, "I love you too. I think I have since I was thirteen years old."

"I know," I said, smiling in the darkness. "I could see it in your eyes, even when you were trying to hide it."

"Show-off," she murmured, but I could hear the smile in her voice.

Above us, the blood moon continued its ancient journey across the sky, blessing our union with its crimson light. Whatever challenges lay ahead, and there would be challenges, we would face them together. No longer hiding and uncertain. Finally, completely, perfectly whole.
