Inside the room, the woman sat on the sofa, her long, shiny black hair cascading like a waterfall over her shoulders.
She was dressed simply-light blue jeans, a plain white T-shirt, and a pair of white sneakers.
Thanks to her natural beauty, even this basic outfit didn't make her look cheap. Instead, it added a fresh and youthful vibe to her.
The woman sat quietly on the sofa, tilting her head slightly to look out the window.
Dr. Wale stood not far to the side, stroking his chin and frowning as he observed her.
After a while, the silence became unbearable. Feeling awkward, Dr. Wale was the first to speak.
"Ahem!" He cleared his throat and asked with a forced smile, "Miss, can you tell me your name now?"
The woman turned her head toward him upon hearing his voice.
Her eyes were clear and calm, with no ripple of emotion. "I already told you. I'm here to see Xavier. Once he's here, you'll naturally know who I am."
"Our young master is busy!" Dr. Wale dropped his smile. "He's a man of status. Not just anyone can see him whenever they please. I advise you to be sensible and reveal your identity while I'm still being polite. Otherwise, once I run out of patience and call someone to throw you out, don't blame me!"
But the woman wasn't the least bit intimidated.
She looked at him without even blinking. "Go ahead, try throwing me out."
Her tone was steady and firm, exuding confidence-almost as if she was certain that if they laid a hand on her, they'd regret it.
Dr. Wale was now even more suspicious of her identity.
He fell silent, his gaze darkening.
The woman smiled brightly, turned her head back to the window, and ignored him.
Another five minutes passed. Dr. Wale was about to lose his patience.
Stuck in a room with a mysterious woman who wouldn't answer questions-he felt useless not interrogating her, but ridiculous continuing to try.
Just as he was debating whether to step out, the door to the room clicked open.
Relieved, he turned to see Xavier and immediately greeted him with a smile. "Young Master, you're finally here! This mysterious woman is tight-lipped-no matter what I ask, she won't say a thing. Insisted on waiting for you. And she even threatened me, said I'd regret it if I dared touch her!"
Xavier ignored Dr. Wale and tried to walk past him to see the woman.
But Dr. Wale, oblivious, blocked his path again. "Young Master, this woman disrespected me-she might as well be disrespecting you. You should question her properly. If you ask me, she's definitely suspicious barging into the clinic and refusing to identify herself. If this doesn't work, maybe we should just call the police-"
Xavier had clearly had enough. He reached out and shoved Dr. Wale aside.
He shot him a sharp glare. "How am I supposed to ask her anything with you in the way?!"
He restrained himself from blurting out, "Only dogs block the path."
Seeing Xavier's displeased face, Dr. Wale shut up instantly and obediently stepped aside.
Only then did Xavier shift his gaze to the woman on the sofa.
The moment their eyes met, he was momentarily stunned-then his gaze flickered, avoiding hers.
He thought for a moment, then said in a low voice, "Leave us. I want to talk to this lady alone."
"But Young Master, we don't even know who she is. Are you sure it's safe to be alone with her?!"
"Oh?" Xavier raised an eyebrow. "Weren't you just alone in here with her? You're fine-but now you think I'll be in danger? Are you saying I'm weaker than you?"
"No, no, no! Young Master, please don't misunderstand! I didn't mean it that way!" Dr. Wale waved his hands frantically. "It's just-she asked for you by name. I'm worried she might be hiding a weapon and wants to hurt you!"
It was getting more absurd by the second.
"Shut up!" Xavier barked, and Dr. Wale instantly fell silent.
"Get out! Now! Did you hear me?!"
"Yes, yes! Don't be mad, Young Master. I-I'm leaving now!"
Dr. Wale scrambled out like a kicked dog.
Before stepping out, he paused and turned back, fawning, "Should I wait outside the door? If anything happens, you just call me!"
Xavier shot him a frosty look, and Dr. Wale shrank his neck back and quickly shut the door with a bang.
His expression softening, Xavier walked quickly toward the woman on the sofa.
His voice was gentle, totally different from earlier. "Serena... Why are you here?"
Serena stared at him expressionlessly. "Didn't you say you came here for business? What kind of urgent business brings you to a VIP clinic?"
"Uh... I... My dad's been pressuring me to take over the X Group, right? The clinic is part of our assets, so I'm... here on an inspection. It's work, really..."
She let out a cold laugh and nodded. She didn't ask anything else. Instead, she stood up and headed for the door.
"Serena!" He grabbed her arm. "Where are you going?!"
"If you won't tell me the truth, then I won't stay here and make a fool of myself."
Serena tried to shake his hand off. When she couldn't, she didn't bother arguing. "Go on and finish your inspection. I'm going home. Oh, and I've decided-Vega is a better roommate than you. So please move your stuff out. Today."
"Serena! Don't be like this!" His voice was full of helplessness.
"Be like what?" Serena blinked innocently. "I didn't yell, didn't cry, didn't even question you. That counts as making a scene?"
"I... I'm not moving out!" Xavier frowned, looking frustrated.
"Fine. You don't want to move? I'll do it for you. If your things aren't gone by 6 PM today, I'll put them in the hallway. You can come pick them up before someone collecting scrap hauls them off."
"Serena..." He looked at her miserably. "Isn't this a bit much? I came to the clinic-it's not like I committed a crime!"
"Heh." Serena let out a cold laugh. "Xavier, we've known each other for twenty years. You should know-what I hate most is being lied to. I gave you a chance. You chose to keep lying."
