Lola dragged her fingers through his hair as Jax got on his knees in front of her.
He undid her jeans and pulled them down. The sky was getting dark, and the moon showed itself.
He kissed down her inner thigh and looked up, meeting her eyes as he pulled her underwear to the side, and his tongue slid over her clit.
"Oh my god," she moaned and fisted his hair when the pleasure spread through her body and every nerve tingled.
His finger entered her, and he moved it slowly. After a while, when he noticed she was comfortable, he entered another finger and began thrusting harder as his tongue moved between her folds and put pressure on her clit.
Lola squeezed her legs around his head and panted as her walls clenched around his fingers.
She bent over, her fingers pulling in his hair and core tightening as she came on his fingers. Jax rose to his feet slowly. He gently removed his fingers and pulled her pants up as he rose. He grabbed her waist, pulling her hips out toward him. Lola looked at him in pure pleasure and joy. Her hands slid down his abs and undid his belt. When she undid his pants, his hands came down and grabbed her wrists.
He held them still for a moment. His eyes flickered to her lips, and Jax smiled.
"Not here," he said.
'Get back here. Now!' Ash said over the mind link.
Jax's face changed. His eyes turned yellow, and he looked away. He reached down and grabbed his shirt quickly. Jax gave his shirt to Lola and told her to put it on as he grabbed her hand and dashed to the car.
"Get in," he said hastily.
Lola was pulling her arms through the sleeves as Jax held the door open for her. When Jax got in front of the wheel, he reached back to grab a spare shirt from the backseat.
He started the car and drove off. Everything happened in the span of a few seconds, and the car was speeding down the road back to the mansion.
"What's happening?" Lola asked in distress while the car was nearly flying down the road.
They reached the mansion in under ten minutes and ran inside. At the entrance, on the floor, was Ember. Her body was shaking, and blood was dripping out of her mouth.
Mrs. Blackwood was holding her head and stroking her forehead with a cold cloth.
"What happened?" Jax asked.
Ash stopped pacing. He lowered the phone from his ear, and his eyes focused on Lola like she was prey.
"You did this," he seethed and took fast strides toward her.
Jax stepped in between and blocked her off from Ash's reach.
"You brought them here!" Ash's voice filled the entire house.
The maid lowered her head and disappeared around the corner. The three warriors who were inside the mansion left as well.
Now, just the Blackwoods were left-them and Lola, who they were staring at as though she was the enemy.
"Tell me why they're here!" Ash growled, and his eyes turned yellow.
His breathing was ragged, and his shoulders rose.
"What happened?" Jax repeated and pressed his hands against his cousin's chest to force him back.
Ash clenched his jaw. "Ember was bitten. By vampires that your girl brought here!"
Lola was panting as she watched the girl fighting for her life on the floor.
"She walked in through the doors and fell... The poison has spread," Mr. Blackwood explained, standing behind his wife.
Ash shouted. He raised his arm, and his fist pounded into the wall. Shards of concrete broke loose from the hole that had been created.
His knuckles were barely red when he pulled his hand away, but he didn't look like he was finished. The punch was just the beginning. Ash wanted someone to pay, and he wanted to be the one who reaped the price.
"This is on you," he seethed and pointed at Lola.
His eyes bored into hers, and she fell back a step when his words hit her. It is on me.
"That's enough!" Jax's wolf stepped up to the surface, and they spoke as one. "This isn't on Lola. It's on them," he reminded his cousin.
However, right now, Ash could only see the facts. His sister was dying because she was bitten by a vampire, and she was bitten because Lola had brought them to Wild Cliff.
Jax turned around and grabbed Lola's shoulders.
"Go upstairs and stay in the room. I'll be up in a while," he said.
Lola shook her head. Tears pressed against the back of her eyes.
"Go," Jax ordered and walked with her to the stairs.
He watched her until she entered the room, and the door was closed.
"This isn't her fault!" he said, slamming his hands on Ash's chest.
"She's dying!" Ash said, pointing to his sister. Her eyes were slowly closing more and more.
Lola was in the room, pacing back and forth, wondering what to do.
"This is my fault. Oh my god," she said, dragging her hands through her hair.
Her hands were shaking violently, and she brought them down and watched as the uncontrollable shaking refused to stop.
Her eyes lingered on her wrist, where the vampire had cut all those years ago. There was a scar from the cut. She remembered everything as though it was yesterday, and telling Jax had made the memories fresh again. Lola then thought of the part she'd left out. The one she was too afraid to say.
Lola walked out of the room. Without looking down the stairs at the others, she walked straight into the bathroom. She opened the drawer and found a pair of nail scissors. She grabbed the scissors and pressed the edge down into her hands until she punctured the flesh, and blood started pooling in the palm of her hand.
She grabbed the ceramic glass that held her toothbrush and tossed out the brush. Into the cup, she dripped her blood and winced when she pressed at the wound to get more of it out.
The door burst open, and Jax walked in. His eyes widened when he saw what she was doing.
"I told you to stay in the room," he said and grabbed her hand.
"Give her this," she said softly.
Her voice was no louder than a whisper, and she couldn't meet his eyes.
"Your blood? Why? She isn't human, Lola," he explained and pushed the cup back.
Lola shook out the fear and tried to put a mask on as best as she could to hide the fact she hadn't been truthful. "It's not only healing for humans," she whispered.
Jax grabbed the cup from her hand. He didn't say another word, but she knew it hurt him that she hadn't said it before- the truth was in his eyes.
She put her hands on the sink and looked down at the blood that had spilled into the waterdrops.
"Please work," she said under her breath.
* * *
After Lola's father ran away with the money stuffed in bags waiting for him in the car, the master took one of the other vampires. He dipped the knife in an herbal blend and stabbed his subordinate above his ribs. He said that the blend was from a plant called Lockleaves. Lola watched as the vampire began to spasm uncontrollably and fell to the floor. The master grabbed Lola's wrist and pulled her down. He held the wounded wrist against the vampire's mouth, and as the blood slipped into his mouth, he began to suck. His fangs extended, and he bit down, craving more to get stronger.
"Lockleaves. It's deadly to vampires because it doesn't stop the heart, but rather, it eats it up," he said through a smirk.
The master stroked Lola's head as the pain shot up her arm.
"Good girl," he whispered.
The vampire, who looked like he was seconds away from death, suddenly rose to his feet in a glorious high. He looked like a new person, and they all started cheering.
"Finally, I found you," the master said and cupped Lola's cheek. He looked down at her wound and pinched his brows in question. The wound from the knife and from the vampires bite wasn't healing. "Interesting," he said. He looked up at her frightened face. "You've helped me, Lola. Now, how about I help you? Your family doesn't have to get away with what they've done to you."
