Taming the Mafia Beast

Chapter 29

Ch. 29 / 30 Apr 24, 2026

Esther’s POV

The kiss in the bathtub starts gentle, careful of his wound. But then my hands slide into his wet hair and something shifts.

Deepens.

His mouth claims mine with weeks of fear and relief and desperate need. My dress is already soaked, clinging to my skin, and when his hands find my waist through the fabric, I gasp against his lips.

"Cassian." It's half plea, half permission.

He stands, lifting me with him despite the pull in his chest. Water streams off us both, pooling on the marble floor.

"Bed," he says against my mouth. Not a question.

I nod, and we stumble from the bathroom still dripping, still kissing. My hands are frantic now, tugging at the wet dress that clings stubbornly.

We don't make it gracefully. We crash against the doorframe, laughing breathlessly between kisses. His hands finally find the zipper, drag it down.

The dress falls in a wet heap.

We collapse onto the bed together, a tangle of damp skin and racing hearts. The sheets will be ruined but neither of us cares.

Now we stay entwined as the moon rises higher, neither willing to break the spell. I trace the edges of his scar with my fingertips, still marveling that he's alive, warm, mine.

"I can't stop touching you," I admit quietly. "I keep thinking if I let go, you'll disappear."

He catches my hand, brings it to his lips. "I'm not going anywhere. You brought me back from the dead."

I shift to look at him properly, and see something vulnerable in his eyes. Something I've never witnessed before, not even in our darkest moments.

"When I was dying," he says slowly, each word deliberate, "all I could think was that I'd wasted so much time doubting you. Doubting us."

His thumb strokes my cheek, leaving a trail of heat. "I don't want to waste another moment."

The air shifts between us, charged with something deeper than desire. Something sacred.

I lean down to kiss him. Different from before—not gentle from fear of hurting him, but slow with intention. Reverent.

"Show me," I whisper against his mouth. "Show me what it means to be loved by you without fear, without doubt."

He rolls us carefully, mindful of his healing wound but determined. His weight settles over me, perfect and right.

His hands frame my face like I'm something holy. "You're my redemption," he murmurs, kissing my throat where the bruises have finally faded. "My salvation."

His touch is reverent, worship without words as he relearns my body. Not claiming, not possessing. Cherishing.

"Every scar, every mark," he traces the faint bruise on my wrist, the healing cut on my shoulder, "they're proof you survived for me."

I arch beneath him, overwhelmed by this tenderness from a man capable of such violence. My hands slide down his back, careful of the bandages, feeling the muscles shift under my palms.

"Cassian," I breathe his name like a prayer.

He pauses, his eyes searching mine. "What is it?"

"I need you to know," I say, my voice thick with emotion, "I'd choose you again." Tears well up but I don't let them fall. "Even knowing everything—the blood, the pain, the loss. I'd choose you."

Something breaks in his expression. He presses his forehead to mine, his breath shaking.

"Esther." Just my name, but it contains everything.

When he kisses me this time, it's different. Slower, deeper, like he's memorizing the taste of me.

His hands map my body with aching gentleness. Every touch sends heat pooling low in my belly, makes my breath catch.

When he finally enters me, we both freeze. His eyes lock on mine, dark and intense.

"Is this real?" I ask, vulnerable in a way I've never been. "After everything we've done, do we deserve this?"

"We deserve each other," he answers, his voice rough with emotion. "We've earned this through blood and fire."

He moves, and I gasp. Not desperate or claiming but deliberate, watching my face, learning what makes me gasp, what makes me grip his shoulders tighter.

My heart races, pulse pounding in my throat. Each movement sends pleasure radiating through me, building slowly.

His breathing grows ragged against my neck. "You feel like heaven," he murmurs. "Like coming home."

I wrap my legs around him, pulling him deeper. The angle shifts and I cry out, my nails digging into his back.

"There," I breathe. "Right there."

He adjusts, finds that perfect rhythm that makes my toes curl. His thumb finds where we're joined, circles gently.

The pleasure builds, tightening like a coil in my core. My breathing comes faster, matching his.

"Look at me," he says, his voice commanding even now.

I open my eyes, meet his gaze. He's watching me like I'm something precious, something worth dying for.

The intimacy of it—eyes locked, breath mingling, hearts beating in sync—pushes me over the edge.

I shatter, gasping his name. My body clenches around him, waves of pleasure crashing through me.

He follows moments later, my name a prayer on his lips. His whole body tenses, then releases, and I feel the pulse of his release deep inside me.

After, we lie tangled in sweat-dampened sheets, hearts still racing. I rest my head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.

Strong. Steady. Alive.

"We're different now," I observe quietly. "Not who we were when this started."

He strokes my hair, his fingers gentle. "Better or worse?"

I think of the girl who cried in a garden, believing in fairy tales. The man who held her while pretending to be someone else.

"Neither," I say finally. "Just... ours."

The city sleeps outside, unaware that its underground kingdom has new rules, new rulers. Tomorrow there will be challenges, threats, the endless business of empire.

But tonight, we're just two people who chose each other over everything else.

"I love you," I say simply. "My monster, my salvation, my choice."

He pulls me closer, careful of his healing wound. "And I love you," he replies. "My queen, my equal, my forever."

I trace his scar one more time, this mark of his sacrifice. The proof that he chose me when it mattered most.

"Forever," I echo, and let myself believe in fairy tales again.

Just different ones. Darker ones. Ours.
