LUCIAN
Months went past, soon it was spring once again, we had lived the past months to the fullest and I could say it was the best of my entire life.
I lay in bed fully awake and conscious of my wife's warmth and familiar smell. It was the best fucking place to be. Not until the sound of low whimpers which soon transformed into full-blown cries reached my ears. It seemed Brie heard it as well as her eyes fluttered open almost immediately.
"I'll get her baby, you stay in bed." I kissed her forehead, kicking the blankets off my body as I walked right to the crib only a few feet away.
There she was.
Our precious Jasmine. The name suited her just right. She was the only perfect and innocent thing I had a hand in creating. Her eyes were shiny with tears, her little face was red from all the crying as I gently picked her up and her pink blanket. My protective fatherly instincts urged me to protect her from all the evilness of the world. Sometimes, I even felt the urge to protect her from myself. I couldn't allow this world to taint her as I had done to Brie. Brie was a woman completely different from the girl I had married.
She should never have known violence, should never have become a killer like me, fighting and shedding the enemies blood was my thing, I should never have soiled her.
Sure, she had saved my life more than once but that didn't mean that I didn't regret it. It was also something I would never be able to change.
Sometimes it was truly strange and fascinating how innocent and ignorant she was and at the same time, she was ready to kill for me. She was willing to do anything for the people she cared about.
"Hey, little one, what's wrong? Had a nightmare?" I whispered, placing a hand on her back, patting her gently until she snuggled onto my chest, her cries becoming soft whimpers.
A few months ago, I had assumed that Brie would be having our baby boy, instead, we were presented with a beautiful little bundle of joy that looked exactly like her mother. She was only six weeks old but she held the permanent key to everyone's heart, mine and Brie's specially included. I kissed her forehead softly and watched her for a while, a smile forming on my face at how easily she went back to sleep.
I should put her back in her crib to sleep but I found myself reluctant to part with her. My eyes scanned around her nursery to see if there was something she would need before it was morning before walking out of the room, with Jasmine cradled in my arms. As I entered our master bedroom, Brie's eyes sleepily fluttered open to stare at me.
"She's asleep, shouldn't she be in her crib?" She asked as I carefully placed a sleepy Jasmine on our huge bed.
"No, she's sleeping with mommy and daddy tonight." The bed dipped as I lay beside my wife and child. She merely smiled at me, and I could feel my heart expand, twisting with a fierce dark possessiveness and tender passion that only she had the ability to invoke within me.
In the next few minutes, Brie was out like a light. As though compelled, I couldn't keep my eyes or hands off her.
Gently stroking her face, I was suddenly overwhelmed by a surge of emotions that had my chest constricting.
"Thank you." I muttered the words even though I wasn't sure why. It had to be for everything, for the fact that she existed.
She made everything perfect, She was perfect.
Somewhere inside of me, I knew that our troubles weren't over, far from it. I was also very much aware that they could never be...not with our identity.
I was not scared of our future, all that mattered to me was that Brie loves me, she would never leave me, and I would love her to the very end. She was mine and would always be.
And never to let go.
