The fifteen-minute drive it was supposed to take to get to Wilson will only take me seven.
“Did you see anything?” Sebastian asks from the back seat. Since Raelynn has my car, we had to take Zayne’s.
Gripping the steering wheel, I shake my head. “No. I felt her pain, and that’s it. The connection was lost. I can’t feel her at all.”
Zayne places a hand on my shoulder. “We’ll find her, brother.”
“And I’m going to kill whoever’s responsible,” I promise, my voice a low growl. I was fooled into thinking things would run smoothly for once. Since when did that ever happen with a royal arctic female? Raelynn’s an independent woman, and I didn’t want to push her over the edge by being overprotective. That was my first mistake.
When we get to the house, I skid to a stop in the driveway and see that the front door is wide open. I tear out of the car, and the moment I get inside, I’m punched in the face with the scent of blood. Following the scent, it leads me into the kitchen where an unconscious woman is on the floor, resting in her blood. But where’s Raelynn? I can smell her scent in the house, but I can’t sense her presence anywhere.
Sebastian and Zayne charge in, and Zayne pulls out his phone. “I’m calling an ambulance. She has a pulse, but it’s faint.”
I take off down the hall where Raelynn’s scent is more potent. The moment I enter the purple bedroom, a vision sparks in my mind, the same one I’ve had before. There are black wolves and a terrified Faith, her face contorted in agony as we’re swallowed up by darkness. I stumble back, and Zayne steadies me as the vision disappears.
“What the hell just happened to you?” my brother asks.
My stomach clenches painfully like it’s about to be ripped from my body. I’ve had this feeling before around the Black Hills pack.
“They’ve come for her,” I hiss angrily, turning on my heel and storming down the hall.
Zayne follows behind me. “Who?”
We get outside, and I punch the front porch railing. “The fucking Black Hills pack. I know it’s them. I had strange visions when I was around them. They stopped when Raelynn and I got here. Now they’re starting back up again.”
Zayne steps in front of me. “What kind of visions?”
“I don’t know,” I snap, my body shaking with rage. “Black wolves and Faith screaming. It’s as if I was there, but I don’t recall being around black wolves. It’s like something’s missing.”
Zayne’s eyes widen as if I just revealed a deep, dark secret. “And you’re remembering this?”
The worry on his face is evident by the terror in his gaze. “What’s going on?” I demand.
Sebastian rushes outside, and Zayne turns to him. “He’s remembering things.”
The expression on Sebastian’s face mirrors Zayne’s. “Not good.”
They stare at each other, and it infuriates me more. “What the fuck do you mean remembering things? Tell me, damn it!”
Sebastian grabs my arm and pushes me toward Zayne’s car. “You need to go. I’ll stay with the woman. Get to Bailey and Ryker. They might know what to do.”
The ambulance roars in the distance. Zayne rips open the driver’s side door and holds up his hands. “Keys. Throw them to me.”
I do as he says and jump in the car with him. I’m so enraged all I can see is red. I want to find Raelynn, but her trail stops in the house. If the Black Hills pack took her, they’d head back to South Dakota to their territory.
Zayne speeds away and calls Ryker over the speakerphone. “Lyall,” Ryker answers. “What’s going on?”
“Micah and I need to see you right now,” Zayne replies, his voice urgent.
“Is everything okay?”
My brother gives me a quick side glance. “No, it’s not. Raelynn’s missing, and Micah’s having visions of black wolves.”
“Fuck! Are you serious?”
I’ve had enough. My wolf is so close to the surface that I can feel him desperate to break free. He wants to kill, to rip apart every single being that played a hand in taking Raelynn.
“What are you not telling me?” I shout.
Ryker sighs, and I can hear the uneasiness in his tone. “Micah, do you think it’s the Black Hills pack that took Rae?”
Closing my eyes, I try to rein in my wolf. “I know it is. I can feel it.”
“Are there black wolves within this pack?”
My eyes snap open, and I look at Zayne, wondering why Ryker would ask that. “Yes. Their alpha is a black wolf.”
Ryker snarls. “Shit! That’s not good. When you get here, Bailey and I will explain everything.”
The line goes dead, and Zayne runs a hand wearily over his face. “I thought this was all over.”
I have never been so lost or confused in my life. What was I missing?
“I don’t understand,” I fire off. “Why won’t you fucking give me answers?”
Zayne peers over at me. “Why didn’t you ever mention the alpha of the Black Hills pack being a black wolf?”
“Fuck if I know,” I snap, throwing my hands in the air. “There are regular black wolves in this world. I didn’t think it was anything special.”
His jaw tightens. “Yes, there are regular black wolves but not werewolves. There’s a reason why you’re having visions of them and why you don’t remember.”
Fear of the unknown slithers through my gut. I don’t like where this is going. “Tell me.”
Zayne blows out a long, restless sigh. “The Great Luna wanted you to forget.”
