Please Harder, Professor

Chapter 15

Ch. 15 / 255 May 14, 2026

My legs feel unsteady as I follow Dr. Vaughn down the English department hallway, her heels clicking against the polished floor with military precision.

The conversation by the faculty bulletin board keeps replaying in my head—her knowing eyes, the way she'd described Adrian with such intimate familiarity, the implications hanging in the air like smoke.

"Dr. Vaughn," I venture as we walk, my voice smaller than I'd intended. "What exactly did you want to discuss?"

She doesn't slow down, doesn't turn around. Just keeps walking with that controlled grace that makes me feel like prey being led to slaughter.

"Patience, Miss Hale," she says, her tone carrying that particular academic authority that brooks no argument. "Some conversations require privacy."

My fingers tighten around my bag strap. The silence stretches between us, thick and intentional, like she's letting my anxiety marinate before whatever comes next.

My mind races through possibilities, none of them good. How much does she know? What does she want from me? And why does the way she said Adrian's name sound so... personal?

Her office door bears a nameplate in elegant script: "Dr. Lisette Vaughn, Professor of Feminist Literature." She pushes it open and steps aside, gesturing for me to enter first.

"After you."

I step inside and immediately understand why Dr. Vaughn has a reputation for being intimidating.

Deep burgundy walls lined with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, a mahogany desk that probably costs more than my tuition, velvet armchairs that look like they belong in a Victorian mansion.

The whole room smells like bergamot and expensive perfume with undertones of leather and old books.

It's the office of someone who doesn't just teach literature—she embodies it.

"Please, sit." She gestures to one of the velvet chairs.

I perch on the edge, every nerve ending on high alert. Dr. Vaughn settles behind her desk with fluid grace, her red hair pulled back in a perfect chignon, pale gray eyes studying me with surgical precision.

She folds her hands on the desk and leans forward slightly, like a doctor about to deliver a terminal diagnosis.

"Now then," she begins, her voice deceptively calm. "Let's discuss your relationship with Adrian Lewis."

My heart stops. "I don't have a relationship with Professor Lewis beyond…"

"Beyond what?" Her smile is razor-sharp. "Beyond whatever activities require you to spend the night at his residence?"

Heat floods my cheeks. "How could you possibly…"

"Know that you didn't go home last night?"

She tilts her head, studying me like a scientist examining a particularly interesting specimen.

"You're wearing different clothes than yesterday, Sophie. Your hair has that particular tousled quality that suggests... vigorous activity. And you have the unmistakable glow of a woman who's been thoroughly satisfied."

I want to deny it, to stand up and walk out, but something in her tone keeps me frozen in place.

"Let me paint you a clearer picture."

Dr. Vaughn continues, standing and moving around her desk with predatory grace.

"A bright young woman, probably the responsible one in her family, always taking care of everyone else. She meets a professor who makes her feel seen, understood, maybe even desired in ways she's never experienced."

Each word hits like a physical blow because she's describing me with uncomfortable accuracy.

"He makes her feel special, unique, like she's the only one who truly understands him." Her voice drops to something more dangerous. "Like what they have is transformative. And slowly, bit by bit, she gives him pieces of herself until there's nothing left."

"That's not what's happening." I manage, though my voice sounds weak even to me.

"Isn't it?" She moves closer, and I can see something wild flickering in her pale eyes. "Tell me, Sophie, has he introduced you to his... particular interests yet? The games he likes to play?"

My mouth goes dry. "I don't know what you mean."

Her laugh is bitter as broken glass. "The control. The commands. The way he makes you feel like surrender is somehow empowerment?"

I feel exposed, like she can see straight through to every secret moment Adrian and I have shared. Her expression shifts to something almost pitying.

"You really think you're the first, don't you? You think you're his only student who's gotten... special attention?"

The room tilts around me. "That's not..."

"Do you know what happens to women who try to want more?” She stands, towering over me now. “Who asks for commitment from men like him, for something real beyond psychological games?"

I shake my head, afraid to speak.

"They get abandoned, forgotten as an unnecessary thing." The words are quiet, deadly. "Be smart for yourself, dear. Have you considered what will happen when this gets out?"

My pulse spikes. "What do you mean?"

"I mean what happens when the administration finds out their literature professor is fucking his students?" Her voice turns vicious. "What happens to your academic future when you're known as the girl who spread her legs for better grades?"

"That’s bullshit!"

She leans down, bringing her face level with mine.

"Do you think anyone will believe this is about love? About connection? You'll be the slut who destroyed her professor's career, and he'll be painted as the victim of feminine manipulation... Or a predator. It depends on how you put it."

"Why are you doing this?" I ask, standing on shaking legs.

"Because someone should warn you." Her voice goes quiet, deadly serious. "I refuse to stand by and watch another bright girl sacrifice everything for a man who sees her as nothing more than a temporary plaything."

A knock at the door cuts through the tension like a blade. Before either of us can respond, it opens.

Lewis steps in, and the air in the room changes instantly. Becomes electric with barely contained violence. He's still in his lecture clothes, charcoal suit, crisp white shirt, but there's something dangerous in his posture.

His dark eyes find mine immediately, and I feel exposed under his gaze.

"Professor Lewis," Dr. Vaughn says with icy politeness. "We were just discussing Ms. Hale’s academic integrity."

His gaze shifts between us, and I can see him cataloging every detail—my flushed cheeks, Vaughn's defensive posture, the tension crackling through the room.

"Sophie was just learning about the consequences of poor decision-making," Vaughn continues, her smile sharp enough to cut. "Particularly decisions that could impact her entire future."

"How generous of you to share your expertise," Lewis replies, his tone suggesting it's anything but generous.

I stand there watching them circle each other like apex predators, and suddenly I can't take it anymore. The games, the implications, the way they're discussing my life like I'm not even here.

Their attention is completely focused on each other now. This is my chance.

I grab my bag and slip toward the door as quietly as possible, my heart hammering against my ribs. My hand finds the doorknob, turns it slowly, and I step into the hallway like I'm escaping a crime scene.

I make it maybe fifty feet before I hear my name.

"Sophie."

Adrian's voice stops me cold. I turn to find him striding toward me with that predatory grace, having left Dr. Vaughn's office without me even hearing the door open.

"I needed air," I say, which isn't entirely a lie, but Adrian ignores it.

"What exactly did she tell you?"

“Take a wild guess.” Something snaps in me, and I can't even tell what exactly made me so mad and... upset? I didn't turn to Adrian for a fairy tale, it was never my goal, and it went against my deepest desires, which he helped to bring to life.

“You have a history together, don’t you?”

To see how awareness awakens in Adrian, how something new and completely incomprehensible to me appears in his gaze, how he slowly nods his head, as if agreeing with something and thinking about his next step…

"I guess you won't walk away without an explanation," he says quietly, and it's not really a question.

And he’s damn right about.
