My Husband Asked For A Second Wife

CHAPTER 93

Ch. 93 / 150 Apr 17, 2026

Adrian

I told myself I wasn’t following her. I told myself I was simply keeping watch, making sure she was safe, doing what any husband would do if he suspected enemies closing in. But the truth pulsed beneath every footstep I took as I trailed her car through the twisting city streets: jealousy, suspicion, a sense of betrayal I could neither justify nor ignore.

My knuckles were white on the steering wheel; my heart hammered violently against my ribs. Something was wrong. Something had been wrong for weeks.

And tonight, Serafina was hiding it again—slipping out of the estate with a tension in her posture she hadn’t managed to mask. I couldn’t sit in the house another moment. I couldn’t risk losing her. I needed answers.

When she finally parked near a deserted industrial block—one long since abandoned to silence and rust—I felt the first real spike of panic.

“What the hell are you doing here, Serafina?” I whispered into the empty vehicle, staring through the windshield at her figure in the distance.

She stepped out, wrapped in a long coat, her steps deliberate and quick. The building she approached was unlit from the outside, its windows dark, its facade cracked by time. A place for secrets. A place for danger.

A place where no Dona should ever walk alone.

My breath seized. “Is someone blackmailing you?” I muttered, unlocking my door. “Are you meeting a threat? Why didn’t you tell me?”

Fear sliced through me. Fear and something darker—something I had been trying to suppress for weeks. The possibility that she was not just hiding from danger… but from me.

No. No, I refused to consider it.

I stepped onto the pavement, keeping a safe distance as she moved toward a side entrance nearly invisible from the street. My pulse quickened with protective rage. If someone was drawing her into a trap, if someone was using her… I would end them. Without hesitation.

The door creaked open under her hand, and she slipped inside.

I waited only long enough to be sure no one else lurked nearby.

Then, silent as shadows, I approached the entrance and flattened myself against the wall. The interior was dark, save for a faint, flickering glow somewhere deeper within. I leaned in carefully, eyes adjusting to the dimness.

There was an upper walkway overlooking the warehouse floor, accessible by a narrow set of stairs. Perfect. Elevated, concealed, impossible to spot from below.

I slipped inside and moved toward the staircase, taking each step with practiced stealth. The metal groaned softly beneath my weight, but the sound was drowned by the low hum of electricity and the distant echo of a door closing deeper within the building. When I reached the walkway, I crouched near the railing, hidden behind old crates and rusted equipment. From here, I had a clear view of the open space below.

And I saw her.

Serafina stood in the dim light, mask already on her face, her posture rigid, her breath visible in the cold air. She looked… nervous. Vulnerable. Terrified. My heart cracked open at the sight. What was she doing? Who was she meeting? Why had she chosen this place?

Then another figure appeared, emerging slowly from the shadows on the far side of the room.

My blood froze.

Tall. Broad shoulders. A familiar silhouette. A man whose presence commanded the space the way only someone dangerous—someone powerful—could.

No.

No, it couldn’t be—

Matteo.

My chest seized violently, disbelief ricocheting through me. Matteo Verrelli. My wife’s ex-husband. A man I’d never wanted near my family again. A man she had sworn she no longer spoke to. A man who should have been a closed chapter in her life.

Yet there he was. Walking toward her.

My breath stuttered painfully. My vision tunneled.

But I forced myself to stay silent, stay hidden. I had to see. I had to understand.

Serafina didn’t recoil. She didn’t run. She didn’t appear kidnapped or coerced.

No—she stood perfectly still, trembling as though bracing herself for something inevitable.

Matteo’s voice carried through the cavernous warehouse, low and raw. “You came.”

My stomach clenched. I watched Serafina’s shoulders tighten. “You said it was important.”

Important?

What the hell did that mean?

Why were they meeting in secret?

Why the disguises?

Matteo stepped closer, emotion cracking his words. “I didn’t think you would. Not after last time.”

Serafina remained frozen. Her voice emerged altered—distorted. A modulator? Why would she need that? “I’m here. But this is the last time.”

Last time?

Last time?

The phrase tore through me like a blade.

I leaned in closer, unable to breathe. Everything inside me screamed for answers.

Matteo moved another step closer. “This isn’t ending tonight. Not without the truth.”

She shook her head, backing away. “Don’t. Please.”

“You’re hiding from me,” he said, pain bleeding into his words. “Hiding behind a mask. Hiding your voice. Hiding everything except the way you feel when I touch you.”

My heart nearly stopped.

Touch.

Touch.

Oh God.

I felt something inside me fracture.

Matteo continued, “I need to see your face. I need to know who you are. I need to understand why being near you feels like remembering something I spent years trying to forget.”

Serafina’s voice cracked through the modulator. “Stop. I can’t—I can’t do this.”

“You can,” he whispered, stepping close enough that their shadows almost merged. “You just won’t.”

She stumbled backward, shaking violently. “I’m not who you think I am.”

“Then show me,” he pleaded. “Show me and end this madness.”

Serafina’s hands flew up defensively. “No.”

Matteo’s voice broke. “I am falling in love with a ghost.”

My vision blurred.

I felt like the floor dropped beneath me.

This wasn’t blackmail.

This wasn’t danger.

This was betrayal.

A betrayal so deep I couldn’t process it.

A betrayal unfolding before my eyes—spoken aloud by the man touching my wife’s soul in ways I never could.

Serafina turned away abruptly. “This was a mistake. I need to go.”

Matteo’s voice cracked with anguish. “Don’t walk away again. Don’t leave me without the truth.”

I clenched the railing so hard the metal groaned under my grip. I couldn’t move. Couldn’t speak. Couldn’t breathe.

I had come here expecting an enemy.

Instead, I had found the truth.

And the truth had killed something inside me.

Slowly, painfully, I rose from my hiding place—my pulse cold, my world collapsing.

My wife was lying to me. My wife was meeting another man. My wife was trembling beneath another man’s voice.

And that man was Matteo Verrelli.

Everything I thought I knew about my marriage was a lie.

And I vowed—right there in the shadows—that I would uncover every secret she had buried, even if doing so destroyed whatever was left of me.
