Lola's POV
"I can't believe that you people are so stupid to not realize the difference between Serena and I. I've had enough of the games and by the time you get this, your beloved mother would have been gone."
"I thought I could gather information by pretending to be my sister but you're obviously as useless as you were when you were captured. Don't relax, the war is about to begin. So long, fuckers."
I squeezed the note in my hand and saw red. All of them, I'll kill all of them without mercy. I promise you this, Rose. I closed her eyes and said a prayer for her soul.
I looked at Adrian and he seem shaken up. I went closer to him and held him against me. "You don't have to hold it in, baby. It's okay to grief ", I whispered to him gently.
Like he was waiting for permission, he broke down in tears. I held him close to me and rubbed his back as he mourned his mother.
I cried like a baby but I was still his support. In less than 4 months, he lost both of his parents and I could feel everything he was feeling through our mindlink.
The pain, the guilt, the anger and need for revenge all coursed through him at the speed of light.
I felt Nathan poking at my mindlink and let down my wall. "Yes, Nathan?"
"We're under attack, Luna. And they definitely are not normal werewolves, " he said, fear evident in his voice.
Really? Oh, come on.
"What?" I exclaimed. "I said we're under attack and..." Nathan tried to repeat but I cut him off. "I heard what you said the first time, Nathan, " I snapped.
"How much time do we have till they get to the middle of the pack?" I asked him, still holding Adrian to my body. Those fuckers did this on purpose. They knew that he'd be weakened by the death of his mother.
Well, surprise, surprise, they're in for a treat.
"Our border just got breached, it's only a matter of time before they get to the centre of the pack, Luna, " he said, his voice steady as a rock.
"Get all the children, elderly and pregnant women into the safe room. Tell Lyla and Avianca to watch over them while we take care of these monsters. Inform the troops to be in their position, we'll be with you shortly, " I ordered.
"And Adrian, is he okay?" He asked in concern. I took a deep breath before I answered him, "we'll be out shortly, Nathan. The pack comes first to an Alpha and she wouldn't have wanted it any other way."
The mindlink shut off and I assumed he was already carrying out the orders I gave him. I knelt down beside Adrian, whose eyes were still fixated on his mother and cupped his face.
"Adrian, " I called out slowly. His eyes finally found mine and my heart broke for him. He was lost, like his whole world has crumbled before his eyes.
"Mom, she's gone, " he said in a voice devoid of any emotions. I sniffled before I talked again. "She's in a better place, Adrian, but our pack members are not, " I said slowly, not wanting to upset him.
"She wouldn't have wanted this, she would have wanted you to go out there and put those bastards in their place. We're under attack, our people need us. We didn't come this far to allow them win at the end of the day, " I told, slowly gauging his reaction.
"You're right, " he said and got to his feet, pulling me along with him. "I'm going to make sure it all ends today, everything ends today, " he said in a voice that sent shivers down my spine.
Yes, Adrian, it all ends today. I'm sorry.
I hugged him tightly, not caring about the blood covering both of our body. "I'm sorry, Adrian. I'm really sorry for everything, " I told him. "None of this was your fault, how could we have known that she would resort to such measures?" He told me before placing a kiss on my forehead.
He held my hands in his and we ran out of the house together. When we got to the pack house, all formations were in place already.
We made our way to the front of the line, where Nathan was already waiting for us. He bowed and looked at Adrian before his eyes glazed over, indicating that they were communicating through the mind link.
"The children and elderly? Are they safe?" I asked him after they finished their discussion and he nodded. "Lyla and Avianca are trying their best to calm them down, " he said and I acknowledged it with a small nod of my head.
I could hear footsteps coming from the pack border and my eyes watered from the smell of rotten flesh that was in the air.
Adrian held my hand in his and squeezed gently. "Stay by my side, no matter what. I can't afford to lose you too, " he begged but I didn't say a word. I smiled at him and tried to keep my tears at bay.
It's too late, Adrian, too late.
The intruders soon came into view with Damon in the front row and Alysia by her side but that wasn't what caught my attention. Serena and Fay were in chains and were being dragged by some creatures that I couldn't explain.
