Chapter Six
Raven breezed into the Siren’s Strip Club, forcing a confident air that she didn’t feel. This club was the only place in town where immortals could hang out and be their true selves without having to worry about being bothered by humans. So what was the senator, a human, doing here?
Nodding at Jake the bartender, she slid onto the bar stool as he put a shooter of hemlock in front of her. Lifting the glass, she took a sip and glanced around the room looking for the senator. “You see a human in here?”
Jake scoffed at her ludicrous question and walked to the end of the bar.
She slowly finished her drink. After waiting till she was sure the senator wasn’t going to show up, she left the bar. It wasn’t like the captain to make a mistake like this. Every time he assigned her a bounty, he had the right place and the right time. What was so important about the bounty on the senator?
As she started toward the police cruiser, she pulled the keys out of her pocket. When she got them into the lock, a golden bullet whizzed past her ear. Before she could duck behind the car, strong hands pushed her down flat against the sidewalk.
Marcus lay on top of her, shielding her with his seven-foot-five frame as more golden bullets flew past them. His scent heightened her adrenaline, and heat pooled between her legs. Need flooded her body at his touch, and she pressed into his soul. “Marcus, what’s happening?”
“Keep down.” His massive hand pressed her head against the cold sidewalk, but the proximity of his body caused excitement to race up her neck and across her cheeks. His heat agitated her core, and her need for him escalated. The only thing that would calm her down was him hard and throbbing deep inside her pussy again.
A second later, Marcus helped her to her feet. Cool air surrounded her, but the fire he had ignited in her pussy continued to burn. “Let’s go. Whoever was shooting at you has left.”
They ran down the few steps to his car and climbed in. “Do up your seatbelt, but slouch down in the seat. I don’t want anyone to see you.”
Raven did what he told her to do, as uneasiness snaked through her. She’d never experienced it before, but knew she was in the middle of the battle between the Devil and the captain. She also knew the captain would make sure she would be the only one to lose.
