Leah's POV
The darkness clung to me like a second skin, heavy and suffocating, as I lay crumpled in that cursed cage. Pain gnawed at my bones, a relentless beast that had long since made a home in my flesh. My left eye was swollen shut, a throbbing reminder of Magda's fists, but I forced the right one open, squinting through the haze of blood and exhaustion. That's when I saw him - Lucas. He stormed into the room like a thunderclap, tall and handsome, his presence a jagged blade slicing through my despair. Majestic, he was, even with that chrome-colored mechanical arm glinting cruelly in the dim light, a stark contrast to the flesh I'd once known.
He didn't hesitate. That gleaming arm shot out, fingers wrapping tight around Magda's throat, squeezing until her gasps rasped against the silence. With his other foot, he smashed the cage door open, the metal shrieking as it bent under his fury. I flinched at the sound, my body tensing out of habit, but then his eyes found mine—fierce, blazing, alive. "Leah," he growled, his voice low and rough, clawing its way into my chest, "you have to come see me before the full moon. But I'm sorry, I can't wait any longer."
"Lucas…" His name slipped from my lips, weak and trembling, as tears blurred my vision. They stung, hot and salty, spilling over the scars that crisscrossed my face - marks from the slave market, etched into me like a brand I'd never shed. My heart hammered, a wild thing trapped in its own cage, and I couldn't tell if it was relief or disbelief clawing up my throat.
Magda thrashed in his grip, her howl ripping through the air like a wounded animal's cry. "No! Impossible! You're already dead! I took your heart! Why are you still alive!" Her voice was shrill, edged with panic, and I savored it - her fear, her unraveling.
Lucas's stare burned into her, fierce and unyielding. "You didn't expect today, Magda? His Majesty used the remains of the first King to resurrect me!" The words hit me like a slap, sharp and dizzying. Resurrected? My mind reeled, grasping at the edges of that impossible truth.
"Impossible!" Magda spat, her eyes wild. "No one knows where the body of the first King is hidden!"
Before I could catch my breath, the window exploded in a shower of glass, and a werewolf zombie crashed through, its rotting limbs flailing. Then Lycidas dropped in behind it, landing with a swagger that could've belonged in some damned cowboy flick. "Give me a break," he sneered, his voice dripping with that familiar venom. "The Old King asked me to spend a gazzillion dollars to build that damn place. Don't you wonder about the reason behind it?"
Angry flames flickered in Magda's eyes, her face twisting with rage. "You! Are you saying…"
Lycidas didn't let her finish. He slammed his boot down on the zombie's skull, crushing it with a wet crunch that made my stomach lurch. "Yes!" he laughed, loud and mocking. "The Slave Market is actually the burial ground of the first King!"
I blinked, trying to make sense of it, but Lucas tightened his hold on Magda's throat, his mechanical fingers gleaming with menace. "The Enhancement project was specially created by the Old King to deal with you," he said, his voice steady, cutting. "Every part on my arm can control your power. This farce that's lasted for thousands of years should come to an end now, Magda. I have never loved you. I only love my Luciana. She is my woman, my mate, the only lover of my life. Do you think that by letting my mate reject me, you can cut off my connection with her? Do you think that by taking away my heart, you can cut off my love for her? I tell you, this is impossible. Because the only divine thing in this world is love. Love can conquer everything."
His words sank into me, deep and piercing, dragging up memories I'd buried under layers of pain—nights under the moon, his touch, his voice promising me forever. My chest heaved, and I couldn't stop the sobs that tore out of me, raw and ugly. Magda's power flickered, her body slumping as death crept closer, and I felt a twisted satisfaction watching her fade.
Then, a hush fell over the battlefield, heavy and sudden. Every werewolf - Lucas, Lycidas, even the direwolves still snarling in the shadows - dropped to their knees, heads bowed. I dragged my gaze up, following theirs, and froze. A huge pure white wolf strode through the chaos, calm and regal, its fur glowing like moonlight made solid. Wolf attendants flanked it, their steps silent, and wherever it went, golden light spilled out, warm and alive.
"All Hail the Almighty Lycan King!" The cry erupted, deafening, shaking the ground beneath me. My breath caught as the white wolf shimmered, its form dissolving in a burst of gold, and there stood Lucian, draped in imperial robes, his presence a quiet storm.
He walked toward me, steady and sure, and I couldn't move, couldn't think. Gently, he lifted me from the pool of blood I'd been drowning in, his hands strong but soft. From my pocket, he pulled the handkerchief Ryan Sawyer had given me, the one stitched with my mother's love, and wiped the blood from my face. "As I said," he whispered, his voice a balm, "you might need this handkerchief in the future."
"You… So you are…" My voice broke, tears streaming down my cheeks. I lunged forward, wrapping my arms around his neck like a child, clinging to him as the truth crashed over me.
Lucian held me tight, his breath warm against my hair. "Ryan Sawyer is the human scientist I transformed into. During this time, I have been disguised and guarding you. I have never left you, Leah. I have been silently guarding you. R.S. is the abbreviation of your mother's name. This handkerchief was embroidered by her own hands and is also our love. Leah, my beloved child, you have suffered for so long."
I choked on a sob, pressing myself closer. His golden light wrapped around me, and the festering wounds on my body - gashes, bruises, scars - began to heal, the pain leaching away like a bad dream. "Lucian, Dad… I… I…" The words wouldn't come, tangled in the mess of my heart.
He wanted to break, I could see it in his eyes, but he held himself tall, the emperor he was. With a nod to Lucas, he signaled him to let go. Lucas released Magda, and she hit the ground hard, a lifeless sack of flesh and spite. Lucian handed me to Lucas, and I stumbled into his arms, the warmth of him real and solid after so long.
Lucian stepped toward Magda, his voice low and steady. "Magda, you've gone through thousands of years without knowing anyone. Now it's time for you to know what a Lycan really is."
She glared up at him, her crimson tongue lolling as she hissed with her last breath, "You cannot kill me! I am an existence that you cannot kill at all!"
Lucian grabbed her hair, hauling her up, his gaze calm and unbreakable. "Scarlet Magda, the evil spirit of manipulation, I forgive you."
At that moment, Lucas tilted my chin up and kissed me, hard and deep, his lips claiming me with a hunger that set my soul ablaze. A surge of something electric shot through us, and Magda screamed—a sound that clawed at the air as black lights burst from her, consuming her until she crumbled into ashes.
Lucas pulled me close, his breath ragged against my ear. "Leah, my mate, my love and soul, you don't know how much I miss you these days."
I bit my lip, holding back the flood of tears. "Lucas, you are my forever and only mate. In this life, the next life, and the next life, we will find each other again and again, and then we will never be apart again."
The crowd roared around us, their cheers a wild hymn to our victory, and we kissed again, fierce and unyielding, sealing a promise that no force could break.
