Fatty Betty's Diary: My Bully's Crush

Price of Change

Ch. 37 / 251 Mar 20, 2026

Something had changed. The moment I stepped onto campus the next morning from the weekend after the inter-university cheer competition, I felt it.

There were no more whispers. No more side glances. No more snickers behind my back. It was as if everyone had suddenly forgotten Fatty Betty.

It's like stepping into an alternate reality where my body isn't the first thing people see.

Where I'm just Bethany, the cheer captain who dared to rise from the ashes of sabotage and make something beautiful from the wreckage.

The cafeteria buzzes with afternoon energy as my team crowds around our usual table, the air filled with excitement and plans for future competitions.

The Audience Choice Award sits in the center like a trophy, catching light and throwing it back in defiant sparkles.

"We could incorporate more freestyle elements next time," Lucy suggests, her eyes bright with possibility. "Really lean into what makes us different."

The words "next time" still feel surreal on my tongue, but before I can respond, a shadow falls across our table.

Jade stands there, hands trembling slightly at her sides, eyes rimmed red with tears barely held in check.

"Can I... Can I talk to you, guys?" Her voice wavers, but she holds her ground.

The table falls silent, the weight of betrayal still heavy in the air between us. But something has shifted since the competition, since we proved we could rise above the wreckage she helped create.

"I'm so sorry," she whispers, the words spilling out like blood from a wound. "You all became like family to me these past months, and I – I was a coward. I should have trusted you, should have known we're stronger together." Her voice breaks. "Please... I don't want to lose this. Lose you."

The silence stretches, taut as a wire about to snap. Then Lucy clears her throat.

"You should have come to us," she says, but her voice is gentle. "Whatever Stacey had on you, we would have fought it together."

Sasha nods, adding, "That's what teams do. What families do."

One by one, the others voice their forgiveness, their willingness to try again. Because we've learned something vital – together, we're unbreakable.

“And guess what? This family’s actually competing in the nationals!” Lucy blurted out, catching me by surprise. I couldn’t believe it.

The news hits like a thunderbolt later that afternoon: our team – chosen to represent the university despite our competition results.

The shock ripples through us, joy mixed with disbelief. We earned this, I think. Not with technical perfection, but with raw heart and unbreakable spirit.

* * *

I pushed open my bedroom door that evening, exhausted but happy, only to feel my blood turn to ice in my veins.

Stacey sits on my bed like a queen on her throne, my diary – my private thoughts, my deepest secrets – held carelessly in her manicured hands.

"Congratulations on nationals," she drawls, each word dripping with sweet poison. "Quite the achievement for such an... unconventional team."

My heart pounds against my ribs, but I force my voice steady. "Get out."

She didn’t move. Instead, she snapped the diary shut and leaned back on her hands.

"Oh, sweetie. You are really thinking that you earned this on your own, don’t you?” She laughs, the sound like breaking glass.

“But I think – you should know, that the only reason your pathetic little team of freaks made it to nationals only because Marcus pulled strings for you – called in favors, worked his magic. But he won't always be there to save you."

I froze. What?

The room seems to shrink, air growing thin. "What are you talking about?"

"Oh, you didn’t know?" she cooed, tilting her head. "Poor little Bethany, thinking she actually earned something."

I clenched my fists. "You’re lying."

She laughed. "Believe what you want. But tell me—if Marcus hadn’t stepped in, do you really think your half-baked, makeshift team would’ve gotten picked?"

I hated the seed of doubt that planted itself in my mind.

But Stacey wasn’t finished. She stood, stepping closer, her voice dropping into something colder.

"Here’s the thing, Betty. You won’t always be able to count on Marcus’s help. Because, in the end?" Her smirk sharpened. "He's mine. Always has been, always will be."

I sucked in a breath. Her smile turns razor-sharp.

"Our parents have been planning our future for years," she continued. "His family depends on my mother’s influence to stay afloat. Your father? He owes his entire career to her."

I stiffened.

"And you?" she murmured. "You’re nothing. Just a sad, desperate, pathetic fat little girl who thinks she has a chance with him."

My world tilts on its axis, pieces clicking into place with sickening clarity. But Stacey isn't done.

"And let's not forget about that sweet little best friend of yours. What was his name again? Oh, right. Brent."

My stomach twisted.

"He’s cute," she mused. "I wonder how he’d feel if he found out what a dirty little whore his precious Betty is." My blood turned to ice when she smirked even wider. "What do you think, Betty? If he knew you’d been crawling into Marcus’s lap, moaning his name in dark closets, would he still think you’re so precious?"

The diary hits my face with a sharp slap, pages scattering like fallen leaves. Stacey moves toward the door, each step measured and deliberate.

"Keep pushing, Betty," she whispers, voice soft with deadly promise. "See what happens when I decide to stop playing nice. Because destroying you?" She pauses, perfect lips curved in a venomous smile. "That would take less effort than choosing my morning coffee."

The door clicks shut behind her with quiet finality, leaving me alone with scattered pages of my innermost thoughts and the crushing weight of her threats.

My legs give out, and I slide to the floor, surrounded by the wreckage of my privacy.
