Peggy turned to Alexander, who gave her a subtle nod, before addressing Mr. Filler's question. "The answer is yes," she said confidently, making both Camilla and Mr. Filler raise their eyebrows in interest.
"We have a significant amount of evidence to support our claim," Peggy added, before pulling out a blue file from her briefcase and placing it in front of Mr. Filler and Camilla.
"In this file, you'll find my client's hospital test results taken the day after the incident between him and Miss Kings occurred, which show a high level of alcohol in his bloodstream."
"This clearly proves that he was drunk that night," she disclosed, looking straight at Camilla, who had an annoyed expression on her face.
"And does that justify what he did to me?" Camilla asked angrily, glaring at Peggy.
"Miss Kings, may I ask you a question?" Peggy said, addressing Camilla in a professional manner.
"We're you drunk on the night of the incident?" Peggy inquired, her gaze fixed on Camilla as she awaited her response.
"Yes, but." Camilla started to respond but Peggy interrupted her.
"Which means that your answer and this file proves the fact that both parties were under the influence of alcohol and engaged in consensual intercourse," Peggy responded calmly, ignoring Camilla's angry glare as she kept her focus on her.
"This isn't something you should be pressing charges over, Miss Kings, but if you choose to pursue it, we'll see you in court." Peggy said coldly, causing Camilla to narrow her eyes at her.
Alexander watched the exchange silently, feeling the need to come into the conversation but he knew that it was best to let Peggy handle the conversation.
"Is that a threat?" Mr. Filler questioned Peggy with narrowed eyes.
"Threat? No, I'm simply stating the facts," Peggy replied nonchalantly, making Mr. Filler to stare at her blankly.
He had never felt so intimidated and cornered before, but this young woman opposite him was able to do that easily.
Peggy sighed, putting the file back in her briefcase before continuing, "We have the message my client sent to a female companion asking her to meet him in his suite that night. Unfortunately, he saw her reply that she wouldn't be able to make it the next morning."
"I can assure you that we will also find more evidence when we investigate the security cameras which will prove that my client did not sexually assault Miss Camilla Kings." She finished in a monotone voice, but Camilla was not having it and exploded in rage.
"How can you say something like that? You're a woman like me and yet you seem to lack empathy for your own kind. You have no problem siding with a man like Alexander!" Camilla exclaimed, causing Alexander to wince slightly.
Peggy remained unfazed and chuckled lightly instead, "You make it sound like he's a criminal, Miss Kings. In fact, looking at it from another angle, one could say you did all this intentionally to ruin my client's good reputation." She stated bluntly, leaving Camilla speechless.
Mr. Filler interjected, "Miss Smith, if Mr. Cena is as innocent as you claim. Why then are you desperate to get my client to drop the lawsuit?" He asked, narrowing his eyes at Peggy and glancing at Alexander, who remained silent, watching the exchange with a neutral expression.
Alexander was quiet but deep in thought. He wanted nothing more than for his attorney to end the conversation and stop further antagonizing Camilla, as he was starting to see the hurt and anger in her eyes.
He began to realize that the scandal was also taking a toll on her and that she might in fact not have orchestrated the incident that happened between them.
Peggy smirked before responding, "Mr. Filler, my client is a well-respected law-abiding and very considerate individual." She paused.
"It's only out of consideration that he wishes Miss Kings would drop the lawsuit to save her from the backlash she will receive from society when this case is taken to court and she loses." She explained, causing Camilla to slam her hands on the table.
"This meeting is over." Camilla spat out, standing up and pushing her chair away from the table.
She glared at Peggy and Alexander before storming out of the restaurant, leaving Mr. Filler sitting in silence.
The old man shook his head, picked up his briefcase and suit jacket, then followed Camilla out, leaving Peggy and Alexander alone at the table.
They watched as Mr. Filler and Camilla got into their car and drove away, through the glass wall of the restaurant. The tension from the meeting is still lingering in the air.
"You were quiet throughout the whole conversation, are you okay?" Peggy asked, turning towards Alexander with a look of concern.
"I'm okay," Alexander said as he stood up from his seat, taking a moment to compose himself before addressing Peggy's concerns. "I just need to process everything that's been said, but I will handle this situation in a different way," he added, his voice calm and collected.
"What way? Peggy inquired, her voice laced with confusion as she furrowed her brow, looking intently at Alexander, trying to make sense of the question.
"I think we should call it a day. I'll drive you back to your office." He replied instead. His tone quiet and reserved.
Peggy could sense he wasn't telling her everything. But, she didn't press the matter since he didn't seem interested in discussing it with her now.
