Elena
Last night, Tyson didn’t drive me back home. He said he had an urgent call and he needed to leave early.
He stopped an Uber to take me back home, and when I did he didn’t contact me to confirm if I was home already. I held my phone tightly hoping to have a message from him or a call last night. I didn’t until I dosed off.
I drove in my car, I’m in the parking lot of Ivy Prose high school, watching my phone patiently to beep.
I feel sick of waiting for his text, it’s not too bad if I text first right? Maybe it was too busy for him last night that he couldn’t give me a call.
Elena: Hey are you okay? You didn’t give me a call last night after I got home.
I send him the text. Normally it doesn’t take Tyson a second to reply to my message. I wait three more minutes in my car, staring at my phone as if my gaze were permanently glued to it.
No reply.
I step out of my car when I hear the bell for the first-period ring. Knowing I can’t go to class yet like a normal student, but the library. I walk through the hallway slowly, others staring at me as they walk to their classes.
I haven’t been conscious of those staring at me each time I walk across the hallway, but today I feel like I was conscious. I don’t mind, I take a turn to my left walking towards the library. I reach the door and pull the knob down.
It opens and a still silence envelops me. The first person I search for was Tyson, but he isn’t here.
I walk inside, the door slamming by itself. I head straight to the table he usually hides, but it’s empty.
I frown automatically, where is Tyson?
Maybe he has gone out to get something for me like the last time he got me bouquets and maybe that could also explain why he hasn’t replied to my text yet.
He wants to surprise me and doesn’t want it to get ruined by replying to my text. I laugh, understanding his plan.
I take a seat in front of my desk, bringing out my books and my pen. I stare at the blank pages in my assignment book.
I still haven’t gotten an idea of what love truly is and explained how it feels and write an essay about it.
“ Arghhh this is so difficult! Why me Miss Shepard?!” I growl in the quiet room, feeling frustrated at having nothing to write down for the past two weeks I’ve been here.
It is past thirty minutes, and Tyson isn’t back yet. I don’t flinch.
I get up from my seat, heading towards the shelf to pick a different book on psychology.
My eyes glare at the one I haven’t laid my hands on before. I pull it out, resting on the shelf as I skim through the pages. I spend so much time, reading a few paragraphs, and flipping through pages but I get nothing out of it.
I hear the bell for lunchtime ring, causing me to immediately check what the idea of the time says on my wristwatch. It’s at noon, fucking two hours spent without Tyson here.
Elena: Tyson?
I send another text before going to eat my lunch. I was alone in the Cafeteria, Tyson’s absence was telling on me, and I could feel the empty bar in my heart. I wasn’t okay, nothing was okay when he isn’t here.
I check my phone, but still no reply after another thirty minutes. I’m getting worried now.
Elena: Tyson I’ve been texting you for hours. I’m worried about you. Is everything okay?
Next ten minutes.
Elena: Are you mad at me or something? You are not replying to my text, you didn’t put a call through last night either.
Didn’t know it could be this ugly without Tyson, didn’t know I would hate myself this much thinking I have done something wrong.
What went wrong last night? Did I hurt him? Did I say something bad to him? No, no, no. Elen not now, you are overthinking again.
I get out of the cafeteria alone, going back to the library I had been all by myself since morning. Didn’t realize how painful silence could be until it was all I had left. I feel empty, drowning in darkness and ugly thoughts.
I stare dead at my phone, expecting it to ring, or expecting a reply from him. We were so perfect last night, we were at the point that we almost touched the sky...
I slump against the seat, picking up my pen again, biting the edge because my mind is not at rest.
It feels as though a pipe is sucking out all the strength I had brought from home this morning. Nothing gets in my head, Tyson’s thoughts are blocking every other things out of my head. Nothing can go in or come, only Tyson.
I drop my pen weakly, grabbing my phone from the desk, there might be a reply from him I thought.
I open my phone and see all the messages I sent, all bearing the dreaded ‘read’ receipt.
Wait. Tyson saw my texts.
And he chose to ignore it.
Something is wrong. I stumble out of my chair, grabbing my backpack and running out of the library, leaving the door to slam hard by itself.
I’m running across the hallway as I’m heading towards his class. Luckily, the bell for the end of today’s session rings. Everyone starts to fall out of the classes, I run hitting my shoulders on students, but I don’t get the patience to wait and apologies.
I run forward till I reach the entrance of his class and I halt when I see him about to walk out.
I meet his eyes and my hope crash and burns at the instance. He meets my eyes but he says nothing. He tries to ignore me and walks out of the class, without saying a word to me.
“Tyson?” my heart breaks as I call his name. He says nothing to me as if I was a stranger. As if we haven’t been so close last night. As if we didn’t have the best time of our lives last night.
He doesn’t say anything but he stands in front of me watching me. His eyes look a little dull, I don’t know what is going on.
Is he sick or something? If he is sick it’s not a big deal, our wolf will help him recover we are not like humans who could easily die of illness.
“ Tyson, you didn’t call last night. You didn’t reply to my text even after you read it. Did I do something wrong?” my voice cracks.
This is weird, Tyson doesn’t like attending classes, but I just saw him coming out of his last class for the day. Tyson also doesn’t stay silent when I ask him a question, Tyson can’t withstand me being confused. Why isn’t he speaking to me now?!
“ Tell me!” I yell to his face, grabbing his arms. He doesn’t move, he doesn’t take his hands off he just stares at me like a statue.
“ Tyson, what did I do wrong? Why won’t you speak to me? Why won’t you open those lips you glued on mine to speak to me. Tyson it's Elen, your butterfly.. It's me, please speak,” I cry, and he stares dead at me. “ Say something please.” I feel the ugly tears in the back of my throat. I feel it raw and sharp.
His phone beeping in his pocket, and that is when he takes his hands off my grip to answer the call.
I have no clue who he is talking but I hear someone asking something and he replies, “ Yes, she is right here with me.” I freeze. Getting lost in what is going on.
He hangs up the call and throws it into his pocket. He doesn’t leave but still stands in front of me.
No emotion in his eyes, leaving me to wonder what we had last night was something he cherished as well, wondering if it had been real to him too.
“ I waited for you in the library. I waited hours for you. Hoping you will come for me. You have always told me that classes don’t matter to you. You told me I was the only thing that makes sense. Tyson, why didn’t you wait for me this time in the library like you always do?” I stare into his eyes, thinking he would stare straight into mine too, but he doesn't . He is avoiding it.
I step back a little trying to breathe, his silence is taking all of my breath away.
I hear steps coming from behind us and I take a look back and see Daniel, Darius and Ryan coming. Their expression looks dull, making me worried. Wondering what disaster has happened.
“ Ryan..” I call his name, but he doesn’t halt his steps. He walks past me to meet Tyson, the rest also do the same. Heading towards Tyson’s standing spot.
“ I will do the talking.” Tyson tells his brothers, and the three of them nod. I stand numb, confused at what is going on. What talking? I don’t get anything.
“ Elena Deloris. We are your mates and when we don’t what our mates any longer, we are privileged to reject them and go our separate ways.” he says without biting his tongue. Did I just hear that? No, it didn’t register. I didn’t hear him.
They don't want me anymore? Tyson doesn't want me anymore? After the perfect time we had the past two weeks?
“ As your mates, we the Quadruplet Alphas reject you, Elena Deloris.” Tyson says to me. I stumble back, almost hitting my back against the wall.
Where is this coming from? Why is Tyson saying this to me? How did he have the courage? What is going on ?????
“ What are you talking about?” I’m shocked by the weak, broken sound of my voice. I freeze when I taste something salty,
Wait.
Am I crying?
They says nothing again, and the next shock of my life is that they walked out on me....
What. The. Fuck
