Chapter44: UNCIVILIZED APE

Ch. 44 / 168 Apr 28, 2026

SERAPHINA'S POV

My mind still lingers on Olivia even while I leave her for the office.

I can't help but worry, feeling guilty for leaving her alone when she clearly shouldn't have been left by herself even though she insisted it.

Her reaction seemed too strong just for finding out I am nominated, which leads me to think there's something else that she doesn't want to say.

Arriving at the office, there's already a small crowd waiting just outside and ready to be addressed. I assume that they're nominated candidates just like I am and go closer to join them, just in time for the door to open and who I assume is the secretary steps out.

"Good afternoon, I'm sure you all know why you've been summoned here."

A hearty mumbling from the small crowd confirms her statement before she sighs, continuing and reading each word from a note in her hands.

"You've each been nominated by your fellow students as possible candidates for special seats in the Black Wolf Student Council and will be asked to defend your post in elections. However, before the elections, which will be the final stage, you have to perform a series of tasks to show that you are worthy for the post and will eventually award you more voters to your side. The tasks include volunteering, campaigning, and running an effective fundraiser to demonstrate your devotion and leadership qualities."

Everyone seems to grow more excited with the details she spells out for us, like it's some fun field day to anticipate I, on the other hand, watches everyone else, feeling skeptical and confused about the whole thing.

Maybe it's because I'm not used to things like this in my old school, or the thought of running a fundraiser on my own seems impossible.

Yet, there is a tinge of excitement brimming within me. The desire to prove myself amidst all this madness.

She explains more on it before concluding her discussion, urging a friendly election process. After which, each one of the opposing teams present begin to disperse.

I walk about with the rest until I'm suddenly called.

"Miss Hawthrone."

I stop in my tracks, turning to look at the secretary. She was smiling while making her presentation, but now that she's looking at me, the light in her eyes seem to have dimmed a bit.

"Yes?"

"My office, now." she says, walking in without saying another word.

I feel eyes watching me more fiercely now that I've been called out, and the tone in her voice while she called means this can't be good, right?

I walk into her office seconds after her, standing before her desk. She's already sitting, and I'm waiting for her to tell me what I've done this time.

Instead, she ignores me for a few seconds, doing everything else she needs to do. My feet starts hurting, and I clear my throat loud enough so she can remember that I'm here.

Her eyes look up at me with a hint of annoyance before she rolls them, sitting up to look at me.

"I'm sure you're wondering if there was some kind of confusion with you being one of the nominees." Her tone of voice says that she doesn't believe it either and might be annoyed by it.

"Yes, I wanted to ask that."

"Well, it seems contrary to what I thought. You were in fact nominated by a large population of the omegas at school."

She tosses a folder to the edge of her table for me to look at.

Confused, I take it and look at the nomination lists, each holding my name - up to a hundred of them choosing me to represent them.

My breath gets caught in my throat briefly, unable to explain this emotion that completely overwhelms me suddenly.

They did choose me. It's not just a random fluke.

I'm moved by it and the little messages written on the side as to why I am their choice.

"This is the first of its kind in a while, actually."

"Because I'm a human?" I ask, looking up at her.

"The omega students don't ever choose a wolf of their own level or lower, and for that reason, their representative has always been a Gamma. So, it's a first that he's running up against someone this year." She explains.

I'm more confused by her explanation though. Why hasn't there ever been an original omega representative? I didn't think the omegas would choose a higher ranked wolf to represent them, especially when they already have issues with them.

It doesn't seem to make any sense.

A knock on the door distracts my thoughts before its pulled open.

"Ah, just who I was talking about." She refers to the person at the door.

I turn to look at the heavily built guy with blond, spikey hair that's clearly dyed to look that way. He looks extremely familiar to the one I saw earlier at the cafeteria.

The same eyes and bone-chilling aura.

"You!" I point at him with a glare, realizing he's the idiot without a filter from the cafeteria.

"Seraphina Hawthrone, this is your opponent, Morgan Riessmoon - who has been the representative of the omega wolves for the past two years."

"No fucking way." I mutter under my breath.

He looks at me also, recalling my face before a dark smile flits across his face. It's almost like everything about this guy reeks disaster...and in a bloodcurdling way.

"I heard some little twat was going up against me, but I didn't think it would be you, a mere human." He chuckles like all this is a joke, like I'm a joke, and there's no point getting serious. I only glare at him, reining in on my irritation.

"Now, remember the election is a friendly one between classmates. No dirty plays or cheating is allowed in each task, and for that reason, I implore the both of you to shake hands in good spirit."

He reaches out his surprisingly fast, and I raise mine slowly with skepticism to shake his hand. He grips mine suddenly and very painfully, squeezing at my hand with the purpose of inflicting pain.

I whimper, trying to pull away...before he finally let's go.

"Good. Now both of you, leave my office."

Without needing to be told twice, I walk out the door, leaving and heading to whatever class I have now, putting all that behind me and purposely ignoring the idiot behind me.

I walk away from the door now that all that's done with, wanting to move on to the next thing.

"Hey, Melon girl." He calls out to me, and I stop in my tracks, feeling disrespected by him for the second time today.

"I have a name, you know. I'd advise you to learn it since we're going to be seeing more of ourselves."

"Yeah, about that...I don't think so."

"What?"

"I'd have to break this down nicely since humans are a little slow. I don't like meaningless competition. Disobeying me is bad idea. Getting me angry is probably even worse. I don't like when people make me hurt them...because then, I don't stop till one of us is six feet under." He speaks slowly, precisely, like I'm an uneducated child. His heavy words fill the air with a sinister atmosphere. It's almost choking. "So, take my advice very carefully; go back to the secretary and respectfully decline your nomination."

I raise a brow at him like he's lost his mind. He probably has though, because who the hell throws around a death threat like it's a fucking treat? However, for some reason, I get the feeling that those aren't just mere words, and my heart pounds even faster.

"You can't be serious."

"Ask around. I don't play games, human."

"Even if I wanted to decline before, there's no way I am anymore."

He laughs for a second, yet nothing about it holds even a hint of humor. It's empty, and equally chilling.

"Think twice before you invite your own demise. I mean business."

"I'm not backing down." I spell it out for him slowly.

Suddenly, ferociously, he growls with an explosive burst of energy, aggressively crashing his fist into the portion of the wall right beside my head, triggering my startled jump and shock. My heart almost leaps out of me.

What the fuck was that? Is he a wolf or an uncivilized ape?

My breath is caught for a moment, and I have to steel my legs from running from this...animal..

"Y-you..." I drag in a shaky breath to steady myself, feigning a bravery that was only skin-deep. "You'd need to do more than that to scare me into dropping out. My spine's thicker than you realize."

I must have failed to hide my fear because he smirks.

A hand comes forward to play with the ends of my hair, twirling it within his fingers, and disgust crawls up my spine. I'm too shaken to peel his fingers off, but I remind myself to wash my hair tonight.

"You don't like things easy, do you?"

"I'm afraid it's just not my style."

He nods. "Looks like I'm going to have a lot of fun ripping out your spine with my bare hands. You have yourself to blame for what happens from now on, Seraphina."

He lets go of the strand, finally turning to leave me alone in the middle of the hall way.

I pick the lock of hair that had been in between his hands, feeling a double dose of my initial repulsion before tucking it back with the rest of my hair.

My heart keeps pounding, and my shoulders remain tense. Morgan Riessmoon is starting to sound a lot more like a nightmare, and I don't like it.

I don't like him.
