Adan
“I guess it’s time to go.” I rose to my feet, hating to have to leave Brenna, even for one night. I was becoming so used to being with her that I was now finding it hard to be away from her.
“Stay,” Brenna whispered, looking into my eyes.
“Brenna, we can’t—”
“No, I meant to sleep.” She bit her upper lip, and I knew this was hard for her. “Never mind. Forget I said anything.”
“No.” I placed my hands on her shoulders and looked into her eyes. “I’d love to.” In one fluid motion, I scooped her into my arms, carried her into the bedroom, and set her on the bed. “Why don’t you get ready while I turn off the lights in both suites and make sure everything’s locked?”
She nodded as a nervous smile curled her lips. I walked out and headed into my suite first, turning off the lights and ensuring everything was secure. Then I closed the adjoining door and did the same in her suite.
Once everything was turned off, I felt like a schoolboy as I walked toward her bedroom. When I walked in, she was in a beige silk gown with spaghetti straps and looked gorgeous, with her dark brown hair falling over her shoulders into waves.
Remember, you’re not making love to her,I reminded myself as my wolf panted in anticipation, wanting to claim her now. You’re just sleeping with her. My wolf growled mentally as I laughed. Yeah, buddy, but we’ve waited this long for her. We can wait a little longer.
Without a word, she pulled back the blankets, turned off the light on her bedside table, and slid into bed.
I stripped off my T-shirt and let it fall to the floor. Then I took off my pants but left on my boxers, slid under the blankets with her, and extended my arm to her. “Come here.”
She slid close and curled up next to me, placing her hands on my chest, fitting perfectly in the crook of my shoulder. I wrapped my arm around her and pulled her to me. She fit so perfectly in my arms that it was almost as if we had been made for each other.
“You know, I was just thinking of something.”
“Oh?” she asked. “What’s that?”
“Just like on ‘Somewhere in Time,’ I’m amazed that we found each other across time, just like they did.” I let out a deep breath, wanting to word it correctly. “Sure, we didn’t time travel to each other, but in a way, we did. I stayed alive long enough to meet you. Then I recognized you as my Mate as soon as I saw you. It’s amazing how the Moon Goddess works.”
“Yes, it is.” She rose up and looked into my eyes. “But whether or not the Moon Goddess chose you for me, I firmly believe that you’re my Soul Mate. It just took a few centuries for us to find one another.”
I nodded, pushing her hair back as I looked into her beautiful blue eyes. “Brenna, would you have waited for me as I waited for you?”
A smile lit her lips. “What do you think? Of course, I would have. But I’m glad you waited for me. I don’t know what I would have done if you had been married to someone else when we met. I’m not a homewrecker.”
I gently kissed her lips and whispered, “That’s why I waited for you. I love you, Breanna. I always have and I always will.”
“I’ve always loved you, too.” Her lips descended upon mine, and passion overtook us both. I rubbed my hands up and down her back, enjoying the feel of her lying in my arms. She pulled back a moment later and gave me one last sweet kiss. “Goodnight.”
“Sweet dreams.” I kissed her forehead, and then she lay on my shoulder, safe in my arms.
Brenna
The bright morning sunshine streamed through my window the following day, and I curled up next to a warm body lying next to me. Then my eyes suddenly shot open as the events from the night before rushed into my mind. I rose up, and Adan was still there, lying next to me.
“You stayed.” I smiled, glad he hadn’t left after I fell asleep.
“Of course I did,” I replied, his eyes still closed. “Lay back down. Let’s go back to sleep.”
But I was too excited to sleep as I sat on the edge of the bed. “You go ahead. I’m going to take a shower and get ready for practice.”
“Oh, come back to bed.” He opened one eye. “I miss you already.”
“If I come back to bed, I know we won’t sleep.”
He looked over at me. “Don’t you trust me?”
“Of course I do.”
His eye closed. “Then come back to bed.” Quicker than I would have thought possible, he grabbed me around my waist and pulled me over to the other side as I giggled. He was looking down at me a moment later. “Man, you’re gorgeous in the morning.”
“I’m a mess!”
“No way.” He wrapped his arms tightly around me as if I were a ragdoll. I laughed as I turned onto my side and he spooned me, clenching me tightly to his chest. “Umm... I like this.”
“Me, too.” I closed my eyes and waited, but he wasn’t going back to sleep. Then, all kinds of things I could do to him started going through my mind. I turned over and gave him a quick kiss. “I’ll be right out.” Then I slid quickly out of reach and darted into the bathroom.
“Oh, come back to bed!” he whined as I closed the door. He definitely was not a morning person. I laughed as I turned on the shower, relishing the heat of the warm water rushing over my body. As I showered, I was hoping that Adan would come in. But then again, he was definitely not a morning person.
Then the door opened. “Come I come in?”
I laughed, shaking my head. “Yeah, come on in.”
I stand corrected. Maybe he’s more of a morning person than I gave him credit for.
